MIX SERIES N1 (2020-2021)

if only once belongs to a new collection of works that explores memory in attics, dusty mirrors, and half-drawn windows.   Fragments from life pass along with snippets of half-remembered tunes played on the piano.   It's still taking shape - but it certainly indicates a direction.

A dumb title due to using a Bosendorfer piano sound in the middle and end, but I think it's a solid piece of Ambient.  I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed producing it. :)

Felicity Mangan's words:
"Wetlands such as small ponds, marshlands, swamps and lakes provide habitats for many of the
world's existing, new and endangered aquatic and terrestrial species.
During the recent lockdown situation l have taken long bike rides inside of the Berlin borders
discovering many tracks along canals, rivers and wetlands inhibiting an amazing biodiversity of
lush flora and fauna during the spring season. I also recently discovered that the name Berlin
roots from previous West Slavic inhabitants berl-/birl- "swamp".
Inspired by these local biotopic explorations I have created a mix featuring my own music that is
influenced and populated by wetland species while including many other artists I have
discovered who have created music inspired by aquatic phenomena or the voices of species
that habitat these wet landscapes."

Felicity Mangan is an Australian sound artist and composer based in Berlin, Germany since 2008. In different situations such as solo performance, collaborative projects with other musicians or installation, Felicity plays her found native Australian wildlife archive and other field recordings, either through a stereophonic system or often via hand-made speakers made with piezo transducers and found objects – exploring the timbre and forms of found and self-recorded animal voices while mimicking biophonic patterns to create minimal quasi-bioacoustic environments. 

Felicity has recently played in collaborative projects Native Instrument (Shelter Press, Entr’acte) presenting electro-acoustic bug beats with vocalist Stine Janvin Joh and Plants and Animalia with Christina Ehrl Shirley – grafting live and pre-recorded drones produced by remnants of plant biochemistry together with modified animal voices. Felicity has also released a solo publication on Longform Editions titled Stereo’frog’ic, a play on the word stereophonic –  presenting a sound piece, crafted from found recordings of frogs, insects and other ‘vocal’ animals wavering about in a stereo field. Felicity has presented projects in many different settings from galleries, gardens, clubs and festivals throughout Europe. Including National Gallery Denmark, Technosphärenklänge CTM/HKW and Sonic Act Academy 2020.

Copula — North Sea Dream

[TIFMIX07] @atoloi is a blending of atmospheric pads and dynamic rhythms — a perfect match between ambient soundscapes and techno sonority. Devotee of nature, in Atoloi's productions he explores sound creating a mellow amalgam of layers using over- reverberated synths, field recordings and self-created samples. In this mix he tried to create a sound representation of a distant dimension where you can get lost between layered environments, subdued voices and amalgamated sounds in a single dense flow. A universe where time and space do not exist, where the Memory melts into the ether, where remembrances of lost places, vanishing sensations and visions now almost completely faded slowly resurface.

Label parisien déglingué naviguant entre indus jerks, synth-punk des faubourgs, rap désenchanté et ghetto boogie. Basile, Delphine et Antoine fument des clopes ensemble dans des fumoirs crasseux depuis maintenant 3 ans et mènent leur barque en famille. 

Pour cette édition, c’est Delphine et Basile qui se passent le volant avec une sélection d’une heure chacun. Direction Urlofest ! Quelques ralentissements sont à prévoir sur le trajet : bizarreries électroniques, guitares lancinantes, spoken-word, percussions et caisses claires à contretemps mais aussi de quoi se dégourdir les jambes sur l’aire d’autoroute. Si vous faites la route de nuit n’oubliez pas d’allumer vos phares.

Esope 21 - Urlofest w/ Demord Enregistrement (27.01.21)

[TIFMIX11] 11th episode of the Tocca il Futuro mix series comes from Margherita di Savoia, musician and composer @truemantic. Truemantic is the creature of Toto Ronzulli. Influenced by the goth music scene from the 80’s along with references to the Cold Wave, Post-Punk and Industrial, Truemantic takes us around in hell through dystopian and unpleasant momenta followed by illogical atonal resolutions. In December, 2017 he released his first on-vinyl remix work with Tocca il Futuro Records, followed by his debut album “Truemantic” and his last single “Destruction” out via Milan-based label Marguerite Records. He is currently working on the making of his second album. A combination of contrasting resonances and different soundscapes that result in 70 minutes of quite atmosphere.

TR117 - Rudi Arapahoe - 'False Self Plays Music For Six Pianos II'

[TIXMIX12] 12th episode of the Tocca il futuro mix series comes from Tuscan / Milanese dj and digger Gabriele Casiraghi - Sunny Crypt. Following up last year’s first chapter, this mix is again focusing on weird Italian music from the past. 
Includes 60’s electronic library experiments, mid 70’s ambient-proggers, Tuscanian Avantgarde theatre , Sardinian organic folk chants, 80s emo waves recorded near my hometown, a guide to hypnosis and a lot more odd stuff.
Italy had (and luckily still has) a dense underbrush of small indie labels that released an amount of brave experimental / ambient / wave stuff; many of these recordings has seen the light for a second time as they’ve been reissued in the last few years, but most of them are still waiting to be brought to a bigger audience.
