A note from Chris on the EP:

Although somewhat melancholic in their original form, these pieces started out as what I came to think of as sonic meditations. The original scapes (three in total) have appeared in a few live and ambient DJ sets, remaining unaltered, but strangely, there was a dreamy nature to the original recordings that drew me into the idea of developing them further, as they seemed to have a restful sort of quality to them - hence the ep's name!

These revised versions were completed nearly two years after the original recordings, which has allowed the tracks to inherit a small sense of optimism over time, that belies their original tone, possibly found through new associations I had made with them.

They were mixed down extremely late at night when all is quiet, infused with the fuzz and glow of generously driven tubes. So the time seems right now to surrender them in their final form - happy in knowing they are out there somewhere, lovingly cut into the 12 dub plates that will carry them!

KAJAH (NL) is a German DJ and artist based in Zandvoort near Amsterdam. Growing up in the 90s, she developed a natural connection to electronic music, which today shapes her sound between Deeptech and Microhouse. Blending her German roots with the influences of the Dutch scene, she delivers sets defined by  precision, groove, and a distinctive flow.

Biography: 
Daniil Lalenkov aka Sleney was born on 06/16/1996 in the city of Yartsevo, Smolensk region. Acquaintance with music began when a tape recorder appeared with CDs and cassettes. From the beginning of 2020, the artist began a new stage in his musical activity. He began to study the FL Studio program in more depth, experimenting in it, began to come to his unique sound, creating a recognizable handwriting. The author's music is clearly inspired by nature. That is why his music is so atmospheric and original. In some of his compositions he uses field recordings, due to this, his compositions become more lively, atmospheric and nostalgic, evoking warm memories in the listener. At the moment, Daniil uses FL Studio to write his music and create podcasts, it is in this program that all his ideas are implemented.

I’m very excited to share the second guest to contribute a chapter to my Biophilia mix series.

From sunny Sardinia, deep-sky objects is a co-curator of Out Of Focus — a podcast and event series dedicated to the deeper, more introspective shades of dance music. I’ve really enjoyed their mixes this year; they bring sounds and inspirations from all sorts of different realms.

His mix weaves together organic sounds from faraway worlds, introspective and ethereal soundscapes, and hypnotic rhythms that send your head into a twist. It’s a diverse listen that I keep coming back to. The small ambient interludes between the more beat-driven tracks give the whole thing a mellow, relaxed tone — they reframe the beats and basslines as more than just dancefloor enablers, giving them new purpose within the laid-back flow of the mix.
