Exit Planet Earth started as a series of records, selected and compiled by ralph lawson, featuring exclusive tracks from the emerging wave of exciting electronic music that emanated across the planet as we approached 2020. Inspired by sounds that captured the imagination the records seemed to hit a nerve as the world turned upside down and faced increasingly unstable times.

It was always the intention that the individual tracks would form a body of work that acted as a snap shot of how people were feeling worldwide as a steady stream of super villains seized power at the very worst time possible. During hard times people turn to music to express emotions as well as escape reality but we don’t know where that creativity process will lead until we turn on the machines - the results can be unexpected.

Over a collection of 25 tracks Exit Planet Earth delves into the reaction of electronic music artists across the planet during the craziest times of the 21st century. We find rules being broken, boundaries being crossed and genres being defied resulting in some moments of magic. Only by losing what we took for granted did we realise what we had in the first place.
Only by leaving the planet can we gaze back on our pale blue dot and appreciate our fragile existence…

Tresor Records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down.
Three of the finest in this collection were contributed by Surgeon "Basictonalvocabulary", "Balance" and "Force + Form", which all came out between 1997 and 1999.

Surgeon's inimitable combination of Detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his British homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases.

Following the release of Surgeon's first album in 5 years "Crash Recoil" earlier in 2023, Tresor Records have decided that it is high time to give these seminal albums another airing.

Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald – the two indispensable protagonists of the Electric Garden – plug back into the wilderness. Transport – the new full length effort of the Borderland collaborative project – brings together a new set of studio-refined sequences aimed at colonizing some of the dark energy that pulsates through those areas that are thoroughly electrified, even if not ‘on the grid’. ‘Riod’ is the first streak to bolt through.

The Detroit-Berlin axis triangulates to a third point which, like the atomic particle that lives in two places at once, flickers between a form of techno-charged ambience and a futuristic club-jazz which cannot be broken down into constitutive parts. Borderland remains caught in a state of enraptured stillness, invisibly moving between every
imagined future for electronic sound making. The result: a font from which springs serene and exhilarating musical ideas that vibrate with refined energy for sixty seconds in every minute.

Transport will release on CD / 2LP, on April 22nd.

At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future. 

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit. 

Tresor Records was founded in the same year and began to serve as a platform for exporting the new sounds associated with Tresor all around the world. Emergent musicians from Michigan, such as Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya, were pivotal in shaping these early years. Their visits to Berlin would kick-start dialogue between the youth movement in Europe and these musicians. This story is one of friendship and community-building, inextricably linked with cities like Detroit, Birmingham or Edinburgh, where like-minded friends built something truly special, where revelatory rhythms soundtrack decaying industry in corrupted metropoles. 

Tresor Records has been the fertile soil for dozens upon dozens of creative minds, from the very luminaries of the scene who developed electronic music over the last three decades through to contemporary protagonists who are currently defining the sound of the future -  A more than 300 strong catalogue displays an unmistakable identity - the Tresor spirit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.
