In tribute to the passing of the great Pharoah Sanders, here is a re-edited show from last year. Another great has been lost. 
In jazz there was a phrase to describe 3 great saxophonists inextricably linked "The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost" The father - John Coltrane, the Son - Pharoah Sanders and the Holy Ghost - Albert Ayler. Somehtin' Else this weeks delves into the first 3 decades of "the son" Pharoah Sanders. A free sax player heavily linked to the fire music of the late 60s, still active today Pharoah is a force of nature! This show looks at his output and playing in the late 60s, 70's and a little nod to the 80s. Tune in! Turn Up! and blow you mind!

Another journey into some of the live recordings from the superb venue Cafe Oto in Dalston, London. A sublime venue with sublime musicians and bands that take to the concrete floor daily. Last year we covered 3 shows on the venue, and yet we can not stop there. So much amazing programming of experimental, outsider and free music emanates from this small space deep in the heart of East London Town.  This show moves from the Swedish psych rock of Trad, Gras & Stenar to the avantgarde improvisations of Limpe Fuchs & Evan Parker, to the Taureg ecstatic  blues of 75 Dollar Bill.

Somethin' Else this weeks pays tribute to saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter, who passed away on the 2nd March 2023. Shorter's career spanned over 70 decades, traversing some of the great changes in Jazz, from Bop, Hard Bop, Free Jazz and Fusion. He was a unique improviser and an especially idiosyncratic composer. This week's Somethin' Else is an archival show from pre-pandemic days. Joining Somethin' Else is Ben Brink to talk about a mutual love of a certain type of New Zealand creative energy. This is part 1 of a 2 part show, playing the indie rock, post punk and noise rock of New Zealand. Heavily influenced by 2 labels Flying Nun and Xpressways, most of the music come from the late 80s and early 90s.
