40 Ḥadīth—Lesson 37—Abū Idrees—27.05.25


- Ḥadīth #10: The Answered Supplication
- Explanation of Shaykh al-‘Uthaymīn (رحمه الله).
- The meaning of the word طيّب (ṭayyib) when it is attributed to Allāh.
- “Say (O Muḥammad ﷺ): ‘Not equal are al-Khabīth and aṭ-Ṭayyib…’” [Sūrah al-Mā’idah 5:100]
- That which is accepted and that which is rejected by Allāh. 
- Proof that Allāh will not accept charity given from unlawful wealth. 
- The action that is considered to be ṭayyib. 
- Wealth that is ṭayyib vs wealth that is khabīth. 
- The real security as it relates to wealth. 
- Two scenarios related to a person giving charity from wealth that was unlawfully acquired. 
- Praying in a masjid built with money gained from interest. 
- The command for the Messengers and believers to eat from the ṭayyibāt. 
- Situations where something that is ṭayyib becomes unlawful to consume. 
- The two things that make an action ṣāliḥ. 
- Affairs that are from the means of a person’s supplication being answered mentioned in this ḥadīth. 
- Raising the hands to make du’ā after the prayer. 
- The two ways in which food/drink can be ḥarām. 
- The meaning of being nourished by the ḥarām. 
- Explanation of Shaykh al-Fawzān (حفظه الله). 
- The necessity of analysing our actions, statements and intentions. 
- “…To Him ascend (all) the goodly words…” [Sūrah Fāṭir 35:10]
- “…and do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it…” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:267]
- The rejection of everything that is khabīth. 
- The action that is considered to be done for Allāh alone. 
- Statements/actions that are ṭayyib and accepted by Allāh.


Text of the ḥadīth:

عن [أبي هريرةَ] رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى طَيِّبٌ لاَ يَقْبَلُ إِلاَّ طَيِّبًا، وإِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِمَا أَمَرَ بِهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ، فَقَالَ تَعَالَى: <<يَأَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُواْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا>>، وَقَالَ تَعَالَى: <<يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ>>. ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الرَّجُلَ يُطِيلُ السَّفَرَ أَشْعَثَ أَغْبَرَ، يَمُدُّ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى السَّماءِ يا رَبُّ.. يا رَبُّ، وَمَطْعَمُهُ حَرَامٌ، وَمَشْرَبُهُ حَرَامِ، وَمَلْبَسُهُ حَرَامٌ، وَغُذِّيَ بِالْحَرَامَ، فَأَنَّى يُسْتَجَابُ لَهُ؟" رواه مسلمٌ

From Abū Hurayrah (رضى الله عنه) who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, "Verily Allāh is Ṭayyib (good, pure) and does not accept but that which is ṭayyib, and Allāh commanded the believers with that which He commanded the Messengers, so He, the Exalted said, ‘O Messengers, eat of the good and wholesome and work righteous deeds’, and the Exalted said, ‘O you who believe, eat of the good and wholesome things we have provided you with.’ Then he mentioned (the case) of a man on a long journey with dishevelled hair, covered with dust, raising his hands to the sky, (saying), 'O Lord, O Lord...' yet his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful, so how will he be answered?"
