In December of 2022, with Turbo Recordings nearing the cusp of its 25th year, label Owner, Founder and Executive Vision Honcho Tiga sent out an urgent missive to friends and collaborators across the globe:

"SEND ME ONE AWESOME TRACK AND LETS GET RICH BABYCAKES. SEND ME FILLER AND YOUR PERSONAL CONTACT INFO GOES STRAIGHT INTO THE TURBO DISCORD SO YOU CAN ‘CONNECT' WITH OUR FANS.”

This brazen threat spoke to the hearts of some of dance music’s greatest talents, who within days gathered outside Tiga’s Montreal fortress carrying thumb drives bursting with melody, rhythm, and more than a little timbre. Now, after months of brutal attrition and line-crossing personal rejection, we are proud to present you with the very best of the best. 

While the mere mention of a label compilation is enough to get anyone’s imagination rock-hard, just consider some of the names involved. From legends like Soulwax (as 2manydjs), Matias Aguayo, Jori Hulkkonen, The Hacker, Seth Troxler, and Audion to modern masters like Cora Novoa, Disfreq, Nikki Nair, Fedele, Mathame (and many more), Turbo 25 spans soundscapery from the label’s rich past, rich present, and VR-heavy future. It stands as an unqualified triumph of networking, goodwill toward men, and Dropbox.

As Turbo Recordings joins the long-lived ranks of Northrop Grumman, the Carlyle Group, and HSBC Malta, this corporate anniversary presents an opportunity for reflection, a chance to bask in the refractory glow before the next 25 years of our label bring about Paradise on Earth. Maybe all of this culminates with every single Turbo artist ever DJing and dancing alongside world leaders and Web3 visionaries at the Hadron Collider main stage. Maybe it’s finally time to release Tiga and Manu Chao's reggaefied hip-house stomper, “Get Vertical.” Literally anything is possible.

The second EP by Vladyslav Putistin and Lvcerate once again merges aspects of their artistic dualities.
Moving beyond their familiar EBM and Italo disco influences, this release incorporates elements of progressive and trance, weaving together inherent dynamics and recognizable harmonies in a new light. With the twist of Italo rave, “Does it still hurt?” offers an emotional and vibrant journey that captures the unique essence of both artists, seamlessly balancing their differences.
This EP is a unified narrative, exploring the zones between brightness and shadow, tradition and modernity, and energy and introspection.
Remixes by Vaälha, Tending Tropic, and Panthera - each a respected figure and dedicated enthusiast of this aesthetic - add additional layers and distinct interpretations, enriching the overall experience.

PREMIERE: Vladyslav Putistin & Lvcerate - Does It Still Hurt [Emerald & Doreen]

Set to arrive in September, ‘We Are Le Turfu’ is the debut collaborative effort by creatively curious French producers REMAIN & daWad. REMAIN is a well-known Rex Club resident,
founder of Meant Records, and has a plethora of releases on labels including Throne of Blood, Darkroom Dubs, and Death On Wax. He is a man of many simultaneous projects, namely Danse Alice, which has previously released on Lumière Noire.
 
daWad has co-managed the IRM label which released Traumer’s first records, who came from a musical family with his pianist mother and his grandfather an organist and harmonizer for a church in Provence. With releases on KNTRL, La Dame Noir Records, Beachcoma and more, this new project marks his debut on Lumière Noire.

Their duo alias known as ‘We Are Le Turfu’ was coined one night, playing records back-to- back, dancefloor receptive, captive, grooving, and bursting at the seams. With decades of experience under their belts, this three-track EP is the first studio effort of the combo and flawlessly embodies the delightfully dark, cybernetic electronica CHLOÉ’s avant-garde label and club night is renowned for.

Opening track ‘Shame Shell’ see’s REMAIN & daWad enlisting a harsh, wintery mix of melodics to clash menacingly with the track’s probing bassline. Whilst somewhat sparse in parts, these producers have curated a deeply atmospheric and mesmerising composition, employing spidery synth patterns alongside mechanised percussion to produce a gloomy, sub-aquatic soundscape.

‘Still Care’ weaves sinister electronic measures with cutting EBM-like motifs. The track’s abrasive inception, which features a coarse cluster of murmuring overtones and hypnotic drum rolls, methodically grows in stature and before-long bursts at the track’s mid-point to make way for glacial strings which adds an icy ambience to this dark, cosmic roller.

A special remix on this release comes from Charlotte Bendiks, an artist from Norway who focuses on alluring dance and body music. Although her main genre is classic house, her sets are inspired and influenced by music ranging from disco to African groove and Latin beats. Her live vocals and percussion, as well as integrating other musicians has become somewhat of a trademark. Her remix for ‘Still Care’ takes the original into a more
downtempo, trippy edit.

The first single ‘Same Shell’ will be released on the 13th September and ‘We Are Le Turfu’ EP will be available from 4th October on Lumière Noire Records.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range, and this, along with a commitment to beautiful design, has earned the label respect in the industry and a cult following among fans. 

“We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
