Dedicated to the late American poet David Shapiro who passed away in May 2024. David Shapiro was a renowned member of the New York School of poets.  The work features brief audio samples drawn from a recording of Shapiro reciting my favorite poem "Poem in a Dream"

pervasive peppermint aroma permeates
the cat's olfactory self as it passes
the ice-cream truck nestled next to
the bridge made of slowly flowing steel,

thermal tarmac and as red a coat of paint
as cinematic cone cells can fathom - elsewhere,
a heron's solitary silhouette complements selves
unabashedly spread across playground noise -

if humans had never touched down
on these waters, soils, the river would
have run another course - wind
might have shed its aeolean pride,
for arrival does not alleviate
the ringing shock of departure
