Unmasked launches Theoria, a new interview series focusing on vinyl labels. As first guest, we are pleased to present you Fleisch records.🩸
In the past seven years, Fleisch has become synonymous with raw body music, since its infamous debut with the release of Schwefelgelb's 'Wie Die Finger Durch Den Nebel. Born from a collective in 2014, the label has evolved throughout the years, without losing its very peculiar identity born from friendship and the imprint of like-minded individuals.

Discover this and a lot more in this interview with Alison Lewis aka Zanias, one of the two original founders of the label. She also put together an eclectic mix for us, where she played just tracks released on Fleisch for a real deep dive into the aesthetics and unique identity of the label.

Next up on Unmasked Discussion is Georgian Dj and producer Downwell.

He has released on Spanish Oraculo Records and contributed to several VA for SCTR, Substantiv, Hex Recordings and Industrias Mekanikas.
His latest work is “Oppression Index” out on Sarin’s X-IMG label and is born out of the artist’s observation of the political situation in Georgia and the global issues affecting the world.

His project focuses mainly on live performances, with a style that brings in elements of EBM, Post-punk and Industrial Techno.

Templər is a Berlin based project started in 2016 by the French artist Thomas Chalandon. Founder/owner of the Berlin based collective and record label Area Z, Templər is also half of the Imperial Black Unit duo, together with Lapse of Reason.
After the first release on Monya's label, Corresponding Positions in 2016, he recently delivered a new EP called "Human Hate" on SΛRIN's label: X-IMG.
Between Rhythmic Noise, Industrial, Power Electronics and EBM influences, Templər wants to deliver a political message in condemning the human mistakes.
By pointing out the sad realities existing in our world, his disturbing sound aims to reflect the bad side of the human being.

UNMASKED DISCUSSION 43 | HIGH SPEED VIOLENCE

Marc started organizing parties as co-founder of Crimewave (former bi-monthly party) which since 2012 has brought a selection of minimal-synth and avant-garde electronic performers for the first time in Milan. Before that, he played a leading producer role in the former witch-house band "Cyndies" releasing a LP on the German label Phantasma Disques (Junkyard II, 2011) and touring Europe.
Drawing largely his aesthetic and artistic inspiration from early new wave and dirty industrial as well as from electronic pioneers, he's active both as dj and producer, with his self-named project (obscure electronics, after a synthwave beginning) and his moniker Plovdiv, more techno-dark beats driven. In December 2013 he released a track on Minimal Trend Records' “Minimal Milan” compilation and he's currently working on his own label “Blacksilk Records”, which aims to bring out the best of hidden experimental and obscure electronic projects. During the past 5 years he played in many relevant Italian clubs, often heading to Berlin, which always considered is artistic hometown and where he appeared as a guest at several underground parties.
Between 2013 and 2016, while studying History of Art, he worked in Turin as art director and resident DJ for the obscure electronic underground project "Devil's Dancers". Recently relocated to Berlin, he's now committed to launching his multifaceted label Blacksilk, publishing his debut as Plovdiv in July 2016, which has been reviewed by Hardwax as “Exceptional & refreshing Industrial / Electro / Techno hybrid EP” and has received wide approval and support from numerous established Djs. A tape by Marc Ash has been released on the polyhedric Clan Destine Records in spring 2017; this work, titled “Ostracism”, carries forward the original influences that characterize Marc’s style, blending synthwave, electro and industrial with syncopated vocal textures and features two reworks by fellow producers Alexey Volkov and Huren.
In Spring 2018 he releases a track on the compilation "No Return vol.2" on Helena Hauff's label "Return to Disorder".

Crystal Geometry is the latest project from underground electronic music veteran, Maxime Fabre. Inspired by Post-Punk, Black Metal and Industrial, the French producer and live artist has returned to his roots, a crossover between the warehouse rave scene of the 90’s and industrial music, mixing EBM influences with hardcore Techno.
Centered around an ever-growing modular system, the project is based upon live improvisation with dedicated hardware, relentless hard beats and haunting soundscapes. Recognition of the project’s output has continued to penetrate the underground circuit, with a growing catalogue of high-impact productions, released across a number of labels; SARIN’s, X-IMG, Parisian imprint RND. Records, Spain’s Darkwave synth driven, Oraculo Records, Marseille-based Caisson Gauche and a debut album on Berlin-based Noise and Industrial label, AREA Z.

Andi is a New York City-based DJ, producer, and the founder of the dark synth and industrial party, SYNTHICIDE. Her own aesthetic combines her devotion to underground 1980s industrial, EBM, and sleazy synth with dark techno and noise - creating an aggressive and dismal soundscape that is unarguably danceable. With her music she aims to challenge the expectations within the confines of this masculine genre, often focusing on the ideas of revenge and strength through a woman’s perspective. Last September Andi released the SYNTHICIDE Compilation V1.0 and her track “Object: Crucifix” - with the next instalment, V2.0, released early next year. She has several other projects to be announced in the coming months alongside an EP on VelenoViola.

An emerging talent of prominence hailing from Mexico, Lokier, as a DJ & producer is cutting a stream into the estuaries of industrial, EBM and electro affixed with minimal wave, Italo disco and its denounced varieties. While running the gamut of Berlin’s underground, from off-location raves to Panorama Bar klubnacht sets courtesy of Mannequin Records, her breech into the European circuit.
Having sets marked down in Den Hague, Kaiku Club Finland, New York’s Good Room and Rex in Paris, Lokier’s diversity in style throws down an array of dramatic soundtrack moves for the dancefloor, weirdo synth, and power electronics.
With a production front now hitting its stride following a debut record for Rotterdam’s Pinkman, her early associations came through Les Disques de la Mort, London’s Throne of Blood (as She Made Monster) and Boyz Noise Rec. Presenting a high voltage kinetic between heavier body music and the intergalactic romance of disco, her tracks over the years have made their way to the edit pits of Mick Wills, Solar’s giallo horror platform Squirrels on Film, to aufnahme + wiedergabe and even UK major Skint!
Amid the regalia of gothic, disco and post-industrial music, Lokier’s plunge into the deeper esoterics of this sound only adds a fresh and inspired ethos to her work, aesthetic and vision.

MELANIA is a Berlin-based artist who’s musical adventure began by the end of 2014. Since then she regularly plays Worldwide and well-known clubs like Tresor, about:blank, IFZ, Arena Club or last but not least, Suicide Circus, where she is a frequent host of the widely known Rituals series. Moreover, she’s a co-founder of the project VERZERRUNG, which is mainly focused on the Industrial/Wave party series at the renowned Project Lab in Poznan (Poland) besides that she is a frequent resident at ORDEN / Hirscheneck in Basel (Switzerland).

Above all that, Melania is firmly focused on her own productions, which so far have been released on aufnahme+wiedergabe, Instruments Of Discipline, Oraculo Records, Subsist Records, Last Embassy, Labyrinth and Round. 

Her eclectic sets are mostly based on energetic Industrial, Techno, EBM, Rhythmic Noise, Rave, Wave etc. Means heavy genres which she periodically combines with a creative touch of uplifting and emotional melodies/vocals or unexpected change of atmosphere. Her selection is completely focused on her feeling, thereby it stays beyond limitations to a specific genre.

This sound evokes what is beyond the words, reaches directly to the heart and unleashes the soul. Each of her sets is a story with a complex plot, keeping her audience in constant suspense and anticipation. Her unique vibe relies on unpredictability and constantly being on the move.

Fairground of Tears is an artistic concept run by Piotr Sledzinski. A concept that is categorised by the darker, industrial and more energetic tones of the techno genre.
Piotr has experimented with electronic music of all colours partly through his former alias and alternative electronica project Ne Plus Ultra along with an involvement in the Passive Front Records imprint. This wide-ranging experience and hunt for expression ultimately leads itself to the Fairground of Tears concept and Exiled event series. The latter playing host to Melania, Operant, Violet Poison, Blush Response to name a few and establishing itself as a premier and forward thinking events series. In that very same vein, his own sets and productions are not bound by any specific style. Consequently, an eclectic mixture of dense industrial textures and atmospheres as well as electronic body music can be expected in his mixes.

Velvet May is an Italian / Berlin-based artist, live performer and DJ, focusing on Electronic Body Music, post-punk, industrial and techno textures.

A new mix is online and this time is from Zariush, Polish DJ, promoter and artistic manager of the well known Projekt LAB club based in Poznan. In his sets, he combines techno with industrial sounds, guitar riffs and pure EBM songs. Over his 10 years on stage, he has co-organized countless amounts of techno events in his hometown. Also, Zariush is collaborating with Melania from three years on a new event project "VERZERRUNG". This event series is probably the biggest regular show with EBM / industrial techno sounds in Poland, bringing such acts as Phase Fatale, Terence Fixmer, Schwefelgelb, Sarin, Imperial Black Unit, Operant among others. Common Poetry is a duo from Bogotá and founding members of the event series Rubber Mind and the new imprint Rubber Mind Recordings.
Common Poetry explores the poetics of the primitive, the failure of humanity, sexuality, magic rituals, psychedelic ceremonies, submission and power. In 2019 they performed in Europe and Asia, including a live act at Saüle, Berghain in Berlin. This year they released their first vinyl,  a V/A  compilation, 'Ecstasy & Transmutations',
Their sessions are characterized by combining heavy electronics with noise in transit between, techno, experimental, ritual and industrial/ EBM.

For our first podcast of the month, we are pleased to present Paris-based artist Notausgang and the exclusive mix he has prepared for Unmasked Discussion.
Noise and gritty sounds are the artist’s signature weapons, together with extensive knowledge and passion for electronics, EBM, industrial, punk and heavy rock.
In the last four years, he has released EPs on Tripalium Corp and Parfé Records and played all over Europe. More recently, inspired by the recent crisis and lockdown periods, he has found an outlet for his creativity in Phormix 20th release, for which he contributed with six tracks.
A lot of interesting material, in this podcast and beyond and definitely an artist to keep an eye on!

For the next Unmasked Discussion, we are happy to host our talented friend and resident DJ at The Judgement Hall, George Minos.

Originally from Greece, George has cultivated a long-lasting love for electronic music and the underground. 
Passions that he found perfectly embodied by the concept of party series The Judgement Hall, a place for him to explore the realms of heavy as well as dance music.

In this hour-long podcast he recorded for us, George delivers a dance-floor oriented set, sliding from industrial to noise, from harsh to smooth, to always come back to techno.
