Save your Atoll, also known as Antonello Meloni, has embarked on a musical journey from Turin to Rome, then Berlin. His evolving tastes led him from Drum and Bass to Dubstep, and later into Ambient, Dubtechno, and more, with Sardinia as a constant influence.

In 2012, he co-founded "Spacedrome" in Rome, which later moved to Berlin. Under this collective, they released their music on various independent labels and won the "Unsigned Contest" by Knowledge Magazine UK with "Mimetic Wormhall."

The following year, they played at the Croatian "Outlook Festival" and performed in clubs across Italy and Europe. In Berlin, Spacedrome showcased their music at clubs like Hoppettosse, Acud Macht Neu, and festivals like Freqs of Nature.

Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus 007

The 7th instalment of our In:Focus Series places the spotlight on a very specific point in time - The Early Deepchord records years.

In the late 1990s the Deepchord record label was co-founded by Rod Modell & Mike Schommer in Detroit, Michigan. After just four years and achieving far more success than initially anticipated, DeepChord Records wound down operations. For this In Focus we want to concentrate specifically on the work that Rod and Mike did before they disbanded.

Across the Dub Techno scene the name Deepchord carries the highest of gravitas. Elite level quality, and considered by many to be, alongside Basic Channel, the blueprint of the genre.

So much has been written about Deepchord over the years, and we're not here to repeat what's been said (you can check out a great interview with Mike from a few years ago here - inn8.net/interview-with-mike-schommer-deepchord/ ), we're here to celebrate the music and we hope that through this session we have done that.

Árpád Horváth, aka HORI, has been a dedicated observer of the underground electronic music scene since the 90s. As a DJ and promoter, he focuses on the bigger picture, filling gaps in the scene with fresh, truly underground music rather than following trends. 

With over 25 years behind the decks, he gravitates toward psychedelic and hypnotic sounds, constantly pushing beyond the mainstream in search of deeper sonic experiences.

A passionate and versatile DJ, HORI favors B-sides and moves seamlessly between turntables and digital decks. Having lived in Serbia, Hungary, the UK, and now Malta, his time in London deeply influenced his approach, making his style fluid and genre-defying. Currently, he promotes and DJs deep, dub, and spherical techno, curating podcast series and shaping the deeper electronic music scene in Malta and beyond under @nexus_xmt

"Deep Currents" perfectly captures the essence of the experience HORI aimed to create. Like the unseen forces beneath the ocean’s surface shaping the world in subtle yet profound ways, this mix is designed to take you on a journey beneath the surface of sound and dance. Electronic musician and guitarist, Sun Dawei is a very active composer in China. He started learning guitar at the age of fourteen, and later formed a punk band, which became the catalyst for him to open the door to music. Settled in Beijing in 1999, then began research and creation of electronic music, and at the same time began to dabble in Fashion Show, film, drama and commercial soundtrack work. 

After several transformations, in order to explore different music spaces. He announced a new musician project - CTAFAD. In 2020, "Vertical Horizontal" was published on "Shanshui Music". In this album, you can hear "the original sound without too much modification, the sense of space like the atmosphere, and the ambitious ultrasonic experiment. In the end, an epic The core sound field has been carefully polished. 

The rhythm and bass line are proficient in interaction from the beginning, gradually unfolding and never extinguishing." In the subsequent release of "Vertical Horizontal Extended" and other EP albums, CTAFAD invited Claudio PRC, Blazej Malinowski, Atomic Moog, Polygonia, Laertes and IORI participated in the remix of the album. A new music-making journey is driven by inner passion and exploration, collaboration and development.

Slowly began to emerge in many foreign Techno labels. Such as: Sungate, Indefinite Pitch, Oslated, Secuencias Temporales和Melifera. At the same time, he also created a new music label "GSXS" - mindin thought, full vision.

For this edition of the SKIN podcast, we're sharing a recording of Amnis' opening set from SKIN x Profundo at 8SixA. It’s a warm, atmospheric journey through deep and dub techno.

Amnis’s music is characterized by deep techno elements, with atmospheric sounds. “Deep kicks and bass lines with enough power to move you, subtle percussive elements to keep the rhythm going, and longer atmospheric soundscapes that create the overarching vibe. I usually incorporate dub techno sounds as well, because it’s a genre that also encompasses very warm sounds, which I often look for in music.”

The podcast mix, recorded live during his opening set at 8SixA, was designed with a specific journey in mind. “It’s a small and cozy club, which is perfect for a slower, more in-depth approach,” he says. “I wanted to start more mental than physical, with a deep and careful build-up. There were still hours of dancing ahead, so I wanted to build the energy in small steps without rushing. I think it’s a nice reflection of my vision for a chiller deep techno set.”

For Amnis, there is no substitute for the club, and real-life experiences with music are the most inspiring. “Nothing is more powerful to me than seeing or hearing DJs and artists live,” he says. “To experience how music moves people and hits your mind is the most powerful thing.” This connection to the physical energy of sound is essential, and it’s reflected in how he constructs sets. In addition to digging deep for music, running his own label [Profundo] and staying in touch with fellow producers offers a steady stream of fresh, exciting tracks to explore.

Throughout the set, he uses variation in rhythm and texture to mark shifts in mood or chapters within the mix, keeping the whole journey interesting.

Fernie travels through his self-made solar system, each planet a different sonic horizon - one pulses with tribalistic rhythms wrapped in mystical atmopsheres, another breathes with organic tones like growing roots and humming birds. On every world, he gathers mind-altering tones like stardust. By the time he returns to his sun, he has composed a universe.

Originating from Glasgow Fernie has a longstanding association with the local Scottish scene having been involved and actively running events since the early 2000’s. Most recently he has been continuing to shape and grow his sound design both through production and live DJ performances. He also acts as podcast curator for respected Norwegian techno platform Monument and has releases spanning across a myriad of labels including KVLTO, BAHN and Informa. Apart from that you may know him as the mind behind Space Textures which acts as an outlet for high-quality atmospheric deep techno.

Fernie takes us on a two-hour expedition where we hear him blend deep electronics with hazy atmospheres, brain-attracting psychedelics and extraterrestrial organics, staying true to his origins in space texture while venturing into a whole new set of cosmic ecosystems.

Created in the moment and improvised there and then." For two decades Anders has been a reliable source of purist psychedelia for those in the know. Partly as a visionary festival organizer and booking manager for international festivals, partly as a vagabond DJ, and today as one of the label managers for Navigare Audio. Countless gigs, in many corners of the European continent, from small private gatherings in the woods to Ozora Festival, have distilled a very distinct sound that rings true to Anders innermost core. From the early days of Zolod'esque night time Psy to today's matured deep, entrancing Techno there's a direct kinship - depth, hypnosis, subtlety, warmth, beauty, highest possible production value, and, above all, no bullshit danceability.

Inspiration zieht Funes aus dem Leben selbst, mit all seinen Höhen und Tiefen. Musik ist Ausdruck innerer Prozesse so etwa beim Debütalbum Agonia (2021), das als Selbstveröffentlichung auf Bandcamp erschien und den Verlust des Vaters verarbeitet.

DJ-Sets von Funes sind mehr als Tanzflächenbeschallung: Sie laden ein zur Reise, zum Innehalten, zum Eintauchen. Ob im Club oder zu Hause es geht um Räume, in denen Bedeutung, Spiritualität und Emotion entstehen können.

Funes draws inspiration from life itself, with all its highs and lows. Music is an expression of inner processes as in the debut album Agonia (2021), a self-release on Bandcamp that processes the loss of a father.

Funes’ DJ sets are more than just soundtracks for the dancefloor: they invite listeners on a journey to pause, to immerse. Whether in the club or at home, it's about creating spaces where meaning, spirituality, and emotion can arise.

For almost ten years, Funes has followed a finely tuned, intuitive sense of music. The track selection follows no fixed pattern but rather an internal filter that constantly evolves. Podcasts and sets reflect personal phases and current influences always with the aim of creating new sonic worlds through the music of other artists.
