Celebrating a globalized - but far from rootless - dancefloor where Turkish psychedelia, Lithuanian cold wave, Central African percussion and Indonesian polyphonic chants blend, Hard Fist crosses time and borders with a singular attachment to the folk music of trance, the kind that marks spiritual gatherings and festive rituals. Shaping the technological meeting of man and machine, the Hard Fist sound brings the experience as much on the dancefloor as in the calm of a Bedouin tent, always off the beaten track, with a free heart and clenched fists.

Frenchy keeps busy on the underground house scene with residencies at the legendary Back to Basics in Leeds, Body MVMT in London and Beatnick Collective in Manchester, as well as being a regular at Gottwood Festival and Pikes in Ibiza. He is an avid vinyl collector for over 25yrs and ran The Garage nightclub which won the coveted DJ Mag small club of the year award and Waxwerks Records in Leeds, so safe to say he has a few hidden gems up his sleeve. With a very broad taste he likes to cross styles when he DJ’s and is equally as at home playing a 6am after hours as he is smashing out a main slot, playing disco under his Disco Till I Die guise, or a poolside balearic set at one of his regular gigs in Ibiza.

john mccready is a liverpool disco dj living in manchester. for almost five years john was sole saturday resident at the legendary hacienda basement bar- an eclectic alternative where wide ranging 5 hour solo adventures explored disco's many far from final frontiers. john also had significant associations with manchester club mavericks afficionado and b-music. he was a tour dj for new order and compiled releases for the group- including their genre defining back to mine mix. john has also written extensively about club culture for the face, mixmag, id, nme, mojo and word magazines. he continues to write here:

what you hear here are often modern revisions of core tracks from that hacienda adventure- spruced up and re-energised by true believers- along with appropriate contemporary creations in the spirit of. they are admissable evidence in the case against a suffocatingly narrow nostalgia for the same twenty odd 'classics' which say nothing about the widescreen ambition of the club at its best. 

disco, in its broadest sense, has been battered, bruised and misappropriated but remains indefatigable!

With a career spanning over four decades, that began in what many consider to be the most important and influential club of its generation, Fac 51 The Haçienda, and continues with his residency for the award winning I Love Acid club night, few of today’s DJs can boast a pedigree like Jon Dasilva. 

Considered to be Haçienda’s most singular resident DJ, Jon Dasilva was fresh to the scene in '87, finding DJ inspiration in the House and Disco DJs of deepest New York and Chicago, amidst a sea of influences, from Bowie to Dub Reggae to Kosmische Musik to Disco. His broad musical tastes and ability to work so many genres into proper dance floor action mark Dasilva out as a next level DJ. 

His greatest legacy from that period, alongside championing the early Chicago and Detroit sound, was his imaginative take on the idea of the DJ set. Not content with simply mixing one track into another, Dasilva wove a cappella and sound effects into a broad selection of House, Acid, Disco, Techno and even Brazilian Batucada, intuitively mixing in key, building a set dynamic that until then was rarely heard on UK shores.

A lesser known side of his influence was Jon’s inspired warm-up sets at the Haçienda. This was Dasilva's first experience of playing in such a major club, and realising the potential to have fun in the first hour or more of the night, he went about mixing up Dub Reggae, Latin, Disco and Post Punk oddities, interspersed with BBC sound effects. Word spread and soon these mixes would become the inspiration for another set of DJs, who later went on to form the backbone of the soon-to-emerge Balearic DJ scene, as well as artists like the The Chemical Brothers, The New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Matthew Herbert, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and many more.

Jon still retains a freshness of approach, and this can be heard in his recent DJ mixes. His penchant for the varied shades of acid, techno and house, as well as his keen nose for sniffing out the most interesting modern producers, are evident.

More recently, Dasilva has forged an ongoing relationship with the London club night, I Love Acid and the club’s promoters, Posthuman, regularly doing back-to-back DJ sets with Posthuman. I Love Acid won the Best Club Event in DJ Magazine’s ‘Best Of British’ 2019.

Pretty much every mix found on here was done via 2 turntables, occasionally 2 cdj's and lots of cursing when I've been fighting to either get records in or to stay in. Rare is it, that I've used a computer or edited my mixes. I believe in keeping the human touch!!.

On this page you'll hear many of the tunes I grew up with and loved, around the 1990-1991 mark. I wasn't out clubbing at the beginning of the house explosion - I was listening to Deacon Blue, INXS, New Order, Joy Division, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and the type of "pop" that is now, more than likely, Balearic!.

I know it's a cliché, but I like to think that some of the mixes, almost tell a story - whether in the mood they create, or with the songs and lyrics within, that are used. Time, thought and a bit of effort have gone into them, so I hope you enjoy them and if you do, please feel free to share with friends - either by pointing them in the direction of my page, or downloading and putting onto disc and listening to, over and over again...x
