It's time to step out of the dense fog of days past, tempted by the deeply reverberating siren's call of 'Visions of Clarity', Collate's maiden voyage EP on Upon You. While 'Glossolalia's thumping, heads-down beat locks you into an airtight vacuum from the go, Daniela Rhodes' beguiling vocal slithers soon guide us into a shimmering landscape of dubbed-out synths and craftly placed effects. These are only brought to the fore by label-head Marco Resmann on his 'Re-Edit One'. Here, a chunky metallic groove unspools into an echo-chamber of infinite depth. In contrast, Resmann's 'Re-Edit Two' ups the ante by adding a neon-synth overload to the mix, making for an equally immersive result. On 'Backpfeifengesicht' Collate then strips things down for the after-hour, letting disoriented bleeps tap-dance over a hugely satisfying minimalist framework, reminding us of the early 90s sound-axis between Berlin and the north of England. Lastly, Collate activates the bunker vibes by way of 'Awumbuk', concluding a powerful EP with a viciously moreish bomb. This one's for those bleary-eyed moments we've come to miss so much. Let's enjoy them while we can.

Renowned German artist Jonathan Kaspar will make an eagerly-awaited return to Kompakt next month via his Umfang EP, with the four-track offering acting as his first full-length solo release on the label since March 2021. “My third Kompakt EP feels particularly special as it is the first time I’m releasing on my home label with dancefloors being open again. The result is four different tracks producing four different vibes, each of which transport my pandemic desires into today’s world.” - Jonathan Kaspar.

The title track leads the way, taking the form of a retro-leaning cut that features whirring synth stabs throughout. Kupfer comes next, a track packed full of emotive chords and a delicate underlying bassline, before Am Raster leads us to the dancefloor and beyond courtesy of minimal-laced kick patterns. Gemach, Gemach Herr Rabe ends proceedings on an incandescent note, as symphonic keys combine with intermittent crow samples to form a slice of wholesome, nature-inspired musical bliss.

Hailing from Bonn, Germany, Jonathan Kaspar is an integral part of the scene in Cologne. He is a resident at the city’s renowned Gewölbe club and also one of the current main figures at the legendary Kompakt label. His discography boasts releases on some of contemporary dance music’s most esteemed labels, including Innervisions, Cocoon Recordings and Crosstown Rebels to name a few, whilst performances at Watergate (Berlin), NDSM (Amsterdam) and Extrema Festival (Hasselt) have brought his sound to global audiences. The Umfang EP proves exactly why he has become one of Germany’s most exciting prospects in recent times and with a highlight year ahead, the future certainly shines bright for Jonathan.

Jonathan Kaspar - Gemach, Gemach Herr Rabe

Dominik Marz and brothers Radial Gaze team up for this four-track outing on TAU. Both acts have been steadily building their reputations on the underground, maintaining a high level of consistency and captivating dance floors across the planet. The trio have already worked together, dropping ‘Trans’ on Mexican label Duro in 2021. Now they’re back with a full EP, demonstrating the full force of their alliance.

The EP starts with ‘Baren’, where we find a low end percolating alongside crispy beats, with an array of percussive additions to increase the momentum. The bass pumps and vocal clips dip in and out of the background as the trio add more layers. It’s a heady combination of well pro- grammed beats with synth and bassline arrangement.

Then we have ‘Asper’, a dense punchy cut with a simple, hypnotic melody. This cut really benefits from its simplicity, an unfussy foundation which supports a colourful main riff.

Next is ‘Mistral’, a percussion-heavy composition that features an earworm melody, trundling drums, and a warped vocal. This one is a proper dance floor stomper.

Lastly, ‘E-Functions’ is a driving cut with a mysterious aura. The trio keep this one engaging throughout with plenty of progression around the core motifs. It’s ominous yet bouncy and playful, striking the balance perfectly and closing out the EP in style.

Get Physical's Roland Leesker returns to the label with a storytelling new single that comes with a remix from Confidential Recipe. 

This is Leesker's second outing on the label this year after February's timeless 'Haus Musik' package. That was the latest in a small but carefully curated series of releases from the artist who has seen recent remixes from Scan7, Terrence Parker and Francesco Tristano and never fails to infuse classic sounds with new school ideas. 

This new single is informed by a Japanese legend of the Heian Period in the late 10th century. Ibaraki-doji, a notorious Oni, resided at Rashomon Gate in Kyoto and harassed people who tried to pass through the gate until a heroic samurai named Watanabe no Tsuna subdued the creature. The battle raged on until Tsuna drew his katana and severed the arm of the demon. A few days later, an elderly woman claiming to be Tsuna's aunt came to visit him and asked her nephew to recount how he fought with the oni. Tsuna mentioned that he had Ibaraki-doji's severed arm in his possession and his aunt was curious to see it. When he revealed the arm, his aunt unveiled herself as Ibaraki-doji in disguise. She grabbed the arm and escaped from Tsuna's mansion. However, even after retrieving the arm, Ibaraki-doji never returned to dwell at Rashomon Gate again. 

The 'The Demon at Rashomon' single musically depicts this tale and comes with epic artwork that brings the story visually to life courtesy of Rio based artist Paula Lles. The record has a body-popping, electro-infused and breakbeat-driven groove that will fire up any dance floor. The bass is big and powerful and the turbulent synths, acid squelches and yelping vocals all bring a battle-ready vibe. It makes for a unique and high-impact tune from Leesker who once again co-produced this with Neil Barber at Hot Kitchen Studios in Berlin. 

Venezuela's pioneering rave ambassador Confidential Recipe remixes and brings with him a fresh mix of tech, electro and house. He has landed on labels like Rekids and RSPX and shows why here. His take is a warm, big and bouncy acid cut with silky drums and vocal yelps adding extra intensity to the groove. 

This is a brilliantly colourful package from Get Physical.

Czech producer Sonority makes his debut on Dutch imprint Manual Music with Letting Go, a collaboration with his student and vocalist Katarina Demska (aka Katska). Blending progressive house drive with timeless deep house finesse, the track showcases Sonority's knack for emotive atmospheres, honed through releases on labels such as Fenestra, Distinctive, Traum Schallplatten, Liquid, Rune, as well as his work composing for ads, theatre, and live performances supporting names like Jon Hopkins, Max Cooper, and Nathan Fake.

Two standout remixes round out the release: Coastlines, the joint project of AllezVed and HEFE with credits on Colorize, ZeroThree, Sekora, deliver a lush, cinematic reimagining full of soaring synths and soundscapes. Meanwhile, Teom & Kiaro, with Kiaro a familiar name on Manual and Teom associated with Mango Alley, Art Vibes, RKP, dive deeper into heady progressive textures for a hypnotic late-night interpretation.

Letting Go captures a moment of artistic connection and sets a strong first mark for Sonority on the long-running Manual Music.

It is the year 2007.

Electronic music is more popular than ever, especially TechHouse is on a thriving uprise and Berlin already became the buzzing nightlife capital of the world it is known as today.

Amidst all these creative and musical vibes a new label is born -  Upon.You Records. Founded in February 2007 by DJ & producer Marco Resmann, with a first release under his moniker Phage on Martin Landsky's Intim Recordings as well as great success as one half of the infamous project Luna City Express under his belt, and electronic music veteran Hawks Grunert, formerly involved in running Timing Recordings with Tanith as well as working for legendary „Frontpage“ magazine, Upon.You Records was already widely recognized for its first release, Phage's „Vut & Vat EP“, and started to drive on the fast lane immediately.

Originally intended to be a platform for music from an inner circle of friends as well as for aspiring young talent it didn't take long until the label branched out in 2008 with first international signings,  various label tours all over the place and a first label compilation.

In 2009, after receiving massive support from nightlife heavyweights like Steve Bug, Brothers Vibe, Someone Else and many more, a cover story in German electronic music magazine GROOVE and with a catalogue of roughly twenty 12“ releases Upon.You launched two subdivisions - Upon.You Digital and the momentary Upon.You Sweet & Sour Series – and established a booking agency as well as regular label events at two of Berlin's most praised venues, Watergate Club and the infamous Panoramabar.

Furthermore Upon.You Records teamed up with Workaholics Berlin for the launch of a merchandising line in 2009, introducing the labels unique visual image to the world of street fashion.

With the launch of the annual label retro- / futurespective „Upon.You Diary“ and an expanded core artist family now including Marco Resmann, Martin Landsky, ONNO, Ruede Hagelstein, Gunnar Stiller, Magit Cacoon and The Cheapers alongside many others, 2010 finally paved the way for success and fruitful growth to come in consecutive years in which Upon.You became one of the leading labels in all things TechHouse and related.

And it was even the first issue „Upon.You Diary“ that awed the electronic world with Marco Resmann's widely praised tune „This Song“, immediately ruling every dancefloor after it was released and drawing even more attenttion towards the Berlin-based label which continued to expand its growing international network whilst signing releases by Quenum, Kink or the UK-based longtime ambassador Steve Lawler.

On a jam-packed schedule of about twenty releases per year lately, including Ruede Hagelstein's Beatport smash „Minus“, with label artists touring the globe frequently and armed with the brand new, 2014-launched UYX subdivision focusing on raw TechHouse and classic stamped whitelabel aesthetics, Upon.You has grown into a major force on the international electronic music circuit.

Always on the lookout for new talent and keen to explore new territories, the future looks brighter than ever for Upon.You after entering the longplay circuit with the widely acknowledged album debut of the former Tel Aviv- and now Berlin-based DJ / producer Magit Cacoon, another successful instalment of the „Upon.You Diary“-series and finally entering three digit realms with the release of Marco Resmann's extrordinary gold vinyl 12“  „100“ - the onehundredth Upon.You single release in the label history which was released in late 2015.

And things surely are about to be busier than ever for all members of the Upon.You camp over the course of 2016, celebrating the labels 8th anniversary with a dedicated series of label events all over Europe and special showcases at Sonar / Barcelona as well as ADE and, of course, a string of high quality releases for maximum dancefloor pleasure throughout this season and beyond. Watch out.
