This is the 21st episode of "Feeding the Gentry" w/ Use Knife on @RadioalHara.

"How did the small state of Israel become one of the world’s leading arms and tech exporters?" Antony Loewenstein asks in The Palestine Laboratory Podcast. We were honored to be asked if Muqata'a's remix of our song Coupe d'état could be used in this podcast, and we're even more honored to return the favor by playing you some excerpts from this important podcast. This podcast digs deep into history and facts to unravel the deep militaristic roots of modern-day Israel, and we hope this might enlighten some people who still don't see the whole picture.

Episode 1 goes into some important history, key figures, and turning points. Antony talks about how early Zionists, as early as the beginning of the 1900s, shaped the future of Israel’s military culture. "The Army was there first. The state was its creation," says ex-Israeli filmmaker and historian professor Haim Bresheeth-Zabner. They discuss the influence of British colonialism and the brutal tactics used by the British in Ireland, which were later copied by the Zionists in Palestine. They talk about the Nakba and the profound denial of the Nakba by people in Israel and in the diaspora. And they talk about how Israel sells weapons that are tested on Gaza and how they are using that in their marketing.

Episode 2 talks about Israel cooperating and assisting with many brutal dictatorships, such as how they trained Chilean personnel during Pinochet's regime and were their major arms supplier, how they trained and armed death squads in Colombia, and how they sent bullets, rifles, and grenades during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. "And literally this year, they were teaching India’s state police violent tactics deployed against protesting farmers," and the list goes on and on. It also delves into Israel's support for South Africa's white supremacist government during apartheid, explaining the deep solidarity South Africa now has for the Palestinians. They also talk about how "nations that want to repress their own people, whether it's in Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka, or elsewhere, look to Israel as a model—not just because they want to buy weapons or training, but because they also like the idea of learning how Israel gets away with it."

Feel Not Found is a DJ and Producer based in Bologna, as well as the founder of Gleba2000, an artist collective that organizes hybrid events with a deep reflection on contemporary issues. Feel's work focuses on uniting underground music; at a time when emphasis is placed on certain sounds, he retraces the music that has inspired him, embarking on an alien journey to other dimensions and truths where everyone can either rediscover themselves or lose themselves completely in the ether.

THF Presents: gleba2000 w/ Feel Not Found // 22.11.2024

The debut album of the Swiss/Mexican artist Jamira Estrada titled "HUM" evolves around drone, noise and electroacoustic music, forging a complex and intimate narrative in which the physicality of the instrument becomes tangible, grounding ethereal voices in a raw, tactile presence.

Recorded primarily on the Goll organ at Zurich University of the Arts, the album delves into the spectral exploration of various timbres, humming into rich, multi-layered textures. Poetic gestures emerge through the resonance of the pipes, the beating tones and undefined spectra. Soundscapes hinge between alienation and solace, guided by a raw and immediate approach to the organ. The organ, far from its loud, dynamic presence, emerges as a subtle voice, evoking a sense of quiet introspection. Tone clusters and dissonant swells blur the line between sonic immersion and embodied sensation.

The album features two collaborations: "Now will always be" is a duet with Miao Zhao on the bass clarinet, while in a re-work of "Wrong expectations the weighted votes of the organ converse with the schizo-tuned screamo vocals of Elvin Brandhi, resulting in a haunting dialogue.

Living in a Prayer

Use Knife is the exciting result of the raw synergy between Iraqi vocalist and percussionist Saif Al-Qaissy—who fled war-torn Iraq—and Belgian musicians Kwinten Mordijck and Stef Heeren, known for their passion for analog synths and organic wind instrumentation. 

The band tell a necessary tale of freedom, responsibility and the gulf between the Eastern and Western mindset. Even the instrumentation itself reflects this constant friction; intuitively muddling distorted industrial textures and jerky EBM pulses with brittle Iraqi rhythms and tonalities, Use Knife devise their own distinct harmony against the dissonant global backdrop. 

Debut album 'The Shedding of Skin' (2022) received critical acclaim by The Quietus, Mixmag and Knack Focus, a.o.. They played at festivals such as Le Guess Who?, Sonic City, Videodroom, Grauzone, Botanique, Worm, Wrong Fest, Roadburn, Suoni Per Il Populo, Wave-Gotik-Treffen and We Are Open a.o.

Additionally, ‘Peace Carnival’ was released on Morphine Records —a 10” remix EP featuring tracks from the debut album reinterpreted by Muqata’a مقاطعة, Zoë Mc Pherson, and Rabih Beaini.

Their new album ‘État Coupable’ (March 2025) is mixed by Jerusalem in My Heart's Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, who also created the contrasting ambient 2nd part of the title track, while New York based engineer Heba Kadry (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nicolás Jaar) handles the mastering. Nihiloxica’s drummer Spooky-J, also laid down a post punk beat on first single ‘Freedom, Asshole’.

Youniss Ahamad crafted Use Knife’s distinct visual language, evoking rawness through direct and distorted imagery, and developed scenography and visuals that truly enhance their live show, creating “an all-embracing vortex that allows those experiencing it to plunge, headfirst, into a hypnotic state that veers between a dreamlike trance and a sensual workout.” (The Quietus)

Their radio show ‘Feeding The Gentry’ airs monthly on Palestinian Radio Alhara.
