The Lijadu Sisters, Taiwo and Kehinde Lijadu, are identical twin sisters from Nigeria who were an important music duet from the mid-1960s to the 1980s. They achieved success in Nigeria[5] and had modest influence in the United States and Europe. They were notable for being a West African version of the Pointer Sisters who mixed Afrobeat sounds with jazz and disco, according to one source. Since the late 1980s, they retired from the music scene.

Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin’s debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is steeped in the bass-heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks, and surf-rock cool. The Texan trio is formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums.

‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside where their first rehearsals took place. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favourites were the '60s and '70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock, and funk. This had a heavy impact on the direction of the band, the scales they used, and the inflection of the melodies; which coupled with the spaciousness of the Texan countryside culminated in Khruangbin forming their exotic, individual sound. 

“We feel like there is an ease that comes from being immersed in a space, away from the distractions of the city and everyday life. We make our music in a barn, in the Texas hill country, because it makes sense to us. Being there allows us to make music that comes naturally, and that’s what we wanted this album to be. We wanted to make a record that just let the music happen, and we hope that’s what you can hear.”

Slightly Stoopid announce the official release of Slightly Stoopid & Friends Live At Roberto’s TRI Studios 9.13.11.... It was an honor being invited by the Grateful Dead and Furthur's Bob Weir into his state of the art TRI Studios. Built by our friends at Meyer Sound Labs, and utilizing the technology of their new Constellation sound system, Slightly Stoopid had the privilege to invite some of their close friends and family down to "Roberto's" TRI clubhouse for an unprecedented live webcast and in-studio performance....

Our good friend Tommy Chong came down and hosted the event and provided some "Wisdom". Our extended family of musical guests joining us and playing on the session, features Karl Denson, Ivan and Ian Neville of Dumpstaphunk, Don Carlos, and Bob Weir himself!

The result is a 31 song / 2 set acoustic and electric performance, including behind the scenes rehearsal footage, and a rare interview segment moderated by Tommy Chong and Bob Weir, all offered on high definition limited edition DVD / 2CD set.

Last but not least, a portion of all proceeds will go to benefit 2 charitable organizations whom the band supports: Save The Children and World Food Programme.
