Living In the Sun by Vocalatti (ft arterial flow)

Robert Schumann (1810-1856) and Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) shake hands in this collection of piano adaptations combined with poetry. Five of Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood" join with selected readings from "A Child's Garden of Verses". In the sixth adaptation, "The Poet Speaks", piano alone, somewhat ironically, carries the meditation.
I have always loved both of these collections. As a child I wrote out many of Stevenson's poems and illustrated them with my crayons. Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood" first found their way into my repertoire in high school and I obviously still enjoy playing them. In no way, however, do I assume to be improving these lovely pieces by my adaptations; I have simply made them my own.
A huge thanks to 1234567890 (Peter) @user-264930040 for his help in choosing poems, and of course for his impeccable delivery. The project would simply not exist without his help. Mother Nature

I am curious how my, or anybody's, musical output is altered by actual life. Usually, well, at least over the last bunch of years that I've been posting here. I can't really say because both the music and life are in a constant flow. This last year though the music and my normal day to day life were somewhat interrupted. I seem to be settling into a familiar but slightly different approach. Although most of my curiosities remain. This piece is really a reframing. That's what I like to call it when I cover a song by someone but keep the original vocal. In this case Ian Stephen. As a change of pace I am actually playing, as a bassist with Mr. Stephen. I must say it delights me that for once I can share one of my musical portraits with the subject. It's also fun to ponder why I've changed, in my own music, what I have.

Let Elvis Free

This is a country gospel classic and one of our favorites to perform just about anywhere.  From wikipedia, it:  "is a traditional Christian hymn from the United States, first documented in the mid-19th century...The song combines elements from an "[o]ld hymn entwined with Poor Wayfaring Stranger (Sacred Harp - 1844). It appears in The Southern Zion's Songster (1864) and in Hymns For the Camp (1862)."
When we were desperately looking for songs to play at a Memorial Day service we did this song, and to give it a little more Memorial Day flavor we changed the word "stranger" to "soldier" in the 2nd chorus.  The idea being that historically sometimes soldiers have become wayfarers or drifters when their governments are done with them (e.g. homeless veterans, etc.).  
This song has been recorded by many, but it was first recorded in July 1924 by Norfolk Jubilee Quartet. Prominent musicians such as Bill Monroe, The Byrds, Johnny Cash, and Merle Travis with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band have also recorded the song. This is a rough recording but we thought someone might want to hear it anyway.  Peace be with you.

Greetings!  We are Jonny Hummingbird and Shelley Meadowlark, an acoustic duo available for hire that just loves to play great songs.  Our style is an odd mix of genres, and our song list ranges from 15th century folk songs to timeless pop, folk, country, and gospel.  We play live at a variety of venues, including breweries, festivals, fundraisers, church functions, funerals, private parties, and the occasional private acousticism for those suffering persistent electric earworms.  😊
