A New World (Pilgrim Song)

A song I wrote two years ago or more about my wife and her mother. Reflecting on the loss of a mother and how it affects the daughter so much and continues to hurt everyday five years later.
I gave Noobly the original demo and said imagine this.
We are on stage at the Albert Hall. You with an acoustic guitar and me on vocals with a full orchestra behind us. He said no pressure then and laughed.
It’s the only way I could express how big this sound needed to be.
Noobly loves a challenge and always delivers. I was blown away at what he had created it’s a home  studio masterclass of orchestration and production.
He also pulled out the original vocal part from the middle 8 and re-used it again as he thought it was more authentic than the new vocal.
A nice touch for me and nostalgic.
The anniversary draws near so now is a good time for the song to be released as a tribute.

Just Not Today ~ Conscience Of Kings

What a wonderful tune Seagull sent me to collaborate on.  His nylon-string and bass playing is lovely but he asked if I could help with a second guitar voice.  The Taylor JKSM seemed the perfect fit with its sweet steel-string acoustic voice.  The undercurrent of meaning in the song is best described by Seagull himself:
"The song is called Stairway, and I realized that it reflects everyone's climb in life. We are encouraged and taught from birth that we must constantly get better at everything. Better upbringing, better behavior, better education, better job, better pay, better things, better health, better parent, better home, better car and so on...But what is the real goal of all this striving? Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with education hopefully producing better and more understanding and empathetic people, and a safer and nicer society. But.....and I think it's a big but.... as we are obviously being trained to buy all the happiness we need in life instead of experiencing it in a peaceful, healthy and experiential life." 
It is a question of what is ultimately important in our life and are we willing to make the climb to reach and attain it.  Something to ponder while you listen:)

Hum Along

Maria Bourgeois is a multi-disciplinary artist known for telling the stories of people and place and their history. She is currently focusing on music as a singer/songwriter. She is a member of Reversing Rabbits; a collaborative music project with Bryan McDaniel.  She has been awarded three music artist residencies…one with the Fredericton Region Museum and two with the Fredericton Arts Alliance. She is a graduate of the Sir Wilfred Grenfell College of Fine Arts Theatre Program and has been a performer for many years.

For now these recordings are only demo quality.
