Umlaut is a European music collective born 2004 in Stockholm, and based in Berlin and Paris.
“Transformation of sound” is our motto and we gather people around this idea, releasing albums, setting up shows, discovering new exciting artists and playing music together. Umlaut has released more than 30 albums and set up international festivals since 2009. We believe in spreading a music that is too rarely shared and discovered ; at the same time we’re strongly convinced in the principle of undividing contemporary musical practices and getting rid of restrictive labels.

Derrière l’élégante appellation “Composer Series” se cache une série de sorties orchestrée par le collectif Valerie. Ni maxis, ni albums, ni singles, il s’agira plutôt de “pièces” composées et interprétées à une ou plusieurs mains. Véritables objets, ces œuvres uniques à géométrie variable prendront la forme de projets éphémères. Cette nouvelle collection sera prochainement disponible en disque laser (édition limitée) et en digital.

Behind the elegant naming ” Composer Series ” hides a series of releases orchestrated by the Valerie collective. Neither Ep, nor albums, it will be rather about special musical pieces compound and interpreted in one or several hands. These unique works with variable geometries will take the shape of short-lived projects. A new collection which will be soon available in limited Laser Disc edition and digital.

THE PROHIBITED RECORDS STORY

Prohibited Records, is first and foremost the story of a family and integrity. In France, few labels have championed such eclecticism or shown such an intense desire to bring together all spheres of independent music. There’s no business plan as such, just a constant rapport with the artists, always ready to help each other out regardless of their different tastes. Twenty years of activism, twenty years of passion for music that stays true to roots and refuses classification.

The adventure started in 1990 in the subterranean arteries of French post-punk, a time of sketchy info from just a few fanzines, dilapidated concert halls and just a handful of record shops. The music was bitter, urban, tense, echoing with the heritage of hardcore and the sound of skateboards flipping, rock that squealed and scraped with atonal guitars, scalpel-sharp basslines, asynchronous rhythms and acrid vocals. Headed by brothers Fabrice and Nicolas Laureau, the group Prohibition stood out with its unusual instrumentation - Quentin Rollet’s free-flowing saxophone and the drone of a sitar could be heard through the decibels. Their reputation started rising in Europe and the USA, where they toured relentlessly, playing with their mentors Fugazi as well as Blonde Redhead, David Grubbs and Noir Désir who were big fans of the group. In 1995, for their third album, Fabrice and Nicolas decided to create their own label - Prohibited Records - and definitively escape from all the conventions of the music industry...

Dialect Recordings is an independent music label since 2002.
