"Über den Dächern" is a defiant 1980s German post-punk anthem about breaking free from urban oppression. Through verses depicting gray streets, identical faces in windows, and inner longing, it builds to explosive choruses yearning to soar like a bird above concrete rooftops—escaping chains, doubts, and the confined world below. A tense bridge evokes falling through time and space toward liberation, culminating in a reprise where everything remains intertwined below as the narrator flies unbound. Raw, politically charged lyrics blend melancholy with triumphant rebellion.
