I incorporated an excerpt of an old cassette recording of my great aunt reciting meditation techniques to help reduce her chronic back pain. I love hearing the sound of her voice, even though I can hear (and remember) how much pain she was in. She made the recording in the 1980s or 90s. 

I also used the music supplied with the assignment, plus my own recording of the ocean.

The Pain

Textuur is een onderdeel van de geluidswandeling Songs for a Landscape.

Op zoek naar het geluid van een landschap.

Na de ontdekking van steenkool werd het landschap rondom Genk ondersteboven en binnenstebuiten gekeerd om een fossiele natuur in het binnenste van de aarde naar boven te halen. Bij de steenkolenwinning kwam veel steen mee omhoog. De stenen werden van de steenkool gescheiden en als afval opgehoopt. In dit artificiële heuvellandschap waan je je ver van de bewoonde wereld, maar overal waar je kijkt zijn sporen van de mens en maatschappij zichtbaar.

Songs for a Landscape is een muzikale interpretatie van de ondergrond van dit landschap. Een klanklandschap om in rond te dwalen.
