With the field of house music DJs continuing to expand exponentially, it’s become increasingly difficult for any one talent to stand out. That is, of course, unless you’re Chad Jack.

In what almost seems like overnight, this extremely gifted young DJ/producer has infiltrated New York’s formidable nightlife scene with his brilliant remix work and recurring gigs at three of the city’s most popular nightclubs, Roxy, Avalon (f/k/a Limelight), and Spirit. Undeniably destined for superstar status, Chad’s vigorous live performances and sophisticated studio productions transcend the dance floor, inspiring awe and cultivating a diverse following of revelers around the world.

Born and raised in Michigan, Chad first discovered his passion for House Music while listening to radio mix shows he tuned in from nearby Chicago. Inspired by industry pioneers like Farley Keith, Fast Eddie, Bad Boy Bill, and the Hot Mix 5, Chad found a creative outlet for his newfound interest behind the turntables. After immersing himself in the hip-hop music scene, he landed his first DJ gig at Electric Avenue in Grand Rapids, and eventually his own radio show on Magic 108 (WMHG) in Muskegon in the early 1990s. After eight years honing his craft as a battle DJ -- performing theatrical tricks using turntables as instruments a la the DMC mixing competitions -- Chad packed up the vinyl in the summer of 1995 and moved to New York City to further his musical education and career.

His focus soon shifted back to House Music and he began experimenting on his computer creating his own remixes of popular songs. While working at Eight Ball Records, the self-taught DJ and aspiring producer befriended industry legends Victor Calderone, Hex Hector and Danny Tenaglia. Empowered by their advice and encouragement, Chad worked even harder to take his artistry to the next level.

After establishing a name for himself on Manhattans underground club circuit, Chad signed on with Madtizzy Productions to help increase his exposure beyond New York. Under the shrewd management of George Dellinger, enviable bookings quickly piled up, including Roxy, NYC, a monthly residency at Avalon (formally Limelight), NYC, Factory in Los Angeles, Coliseum in Fort Lauderdale, and Alegria at Sound Factory in New York.

Unburdened by the minutiae of daily administrative tasks, the rookie producer focused his attention on mastering the Logic software program, which he uses to create and manipulate music for his live sets. His unreleased mixes of Missy Elliott’s Work It and Whitney Houston’s Fine generated a great deal of buzz around town, but it was the birthday present he made for Junior Vasquez in 2002 that truly set Chad on a direct course for the upper echelon of disco royalty.

When he handed a CD containing restyled versions of Vernessa Mitchell’s “Reap” and Whitney Houston’s “Whatchulookinat” intermingled together to the person guarding the DJ booth at Earth, he wasn’t sure if Junior would ever see or hear it. But just two hours later, Junior played his mix and the crowd went absolutely wild.

 Chad has since remixed  Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Vernessa Mitchell’s “Took My Life” (which was Billboard's number one dance record of 2004), as well as produced Jason Walker’s “Set It Free”. 

In 2009 Chad also landed his first Billboard Top 10 Dance Single with "Wish U Love",  with vocalist Fawn and co-produced by Tim Letteer which peaked at number 6 on the Dance Charts.  Chad has since managed to have huge success with big club hits such as 'eZbreeZ” and “Gag On It”, which are collaborations with longtime friend and CEO of Nasty Pig clothing, David Lauterstien (Chad Jack Vs Nasty Pig).

While his production work is indeed impressive, Chad’s extraordinary talent and showmanship is perhaps best appreciated during his live DJ sets. Clearly influenced by his hip-hop and early Chicago house origins, yet confident playing any genre of dance music, Chad admits, Its more about how I play the records as opposed to which records I play.

While his distinct style and sound will inevitably continue to evolve over the years, the one thing the ambitious DJ/producer plans to make sure never changes is that when someone walks into a party that he’s playing, they shouldn’t have to ask who’s behind the decks -- they’ll immediately know its Chad Jack.

The name ESAE is a play on words involving the first two syllables of my Korean name. 이세 (pronounced ee-say) means second generation, and is an integral part of my identity. As a second generation Korean American, I walk a fine line between two very different worlds and cultures, but often feel like I don’t belong fully to either. I hope that my music can be a dock you can rest at for a little while before you continue sailing through life.

Born in the magic land of Transylvania, the two Romanian natives Mihai I. and Marius F. discovered their passion for music at early ages. They first collaborated in a club residency and their musical tastes complemented so fine they decided to continue working together through the years.

After sharing the booth in residencies and various events [House Parade, UNTOLD] under their own aliases, the two have joined their experience and passion for music into Les Gourmands, an ambitious electronic music project that blends together two unique styles.

In 2014 they start The Passport (@thepassport), a brand that supports the electronic music movement and promotes the DJs and producers of tomorrow.

To share their passion with the world, SPICES came to life - a monthly podcast in which Les Gourmands bring electronic music fans the finest selections from all the deep touched genres. Heavy basslines and ethereal melodies are the signature of their sets.

The two gourmands will continue their work in the studio to bring more music among the listeners.

Groovy rolling bass lines, minimal, acid and 90s house can all be heard in Cassette's sets and productions.

Not one to be pigeon holed, or limited by others’ perceptions, Cassette draws influence from many genres.

Early attendance at raves listening to Breaks, Garage, Drum n Bass and Chicago House, combined with her upbringing on Jazz & Soul have all helped shape her into the dynamic selector she is today.

Whether it be deep minimal tech or jacking old skool house there is a certain groove evident in all her musical choices that sets her sound apart from the masses. Cassette got soul!

Her infectious personality and creative sets continue to prove her reputation as a deserving local favourite.
She has strong support from renowned Sydney collectives S.A.S.H, Return to Rio, Blueprint, Subsonic and her own brand BODYWORK.

Internationally, her mixes and productions have been featured on radio stations, websites and blogs around the world resulting in club and festival gigs in Europe, USA, Africa, Mexico, Dubai and Asia.

Her music knowledge and creativity is not limited to the club scene, she has previously completed projects for VIVID Sydney and  been headhunted to work with high-end brands Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Harpers Bazaar, Nike and Adidas.

So what's on the horizon for cassette? She continues to grow her own brand and record label BODYWORK which she runs with her bff DJ Danni B. Bodywork is fast developing it's own loyal cult following, branching out into art fashion and records. With an EP and plenty of unreleased bombs under her belt I'd advise you to stay tuned cause Cassette is worth the hype...

There's no doubt about it, Music animates my Soul, and as an enthusiastic student of Life as well as a passionate Improvisational Pianist &  Composer, as far as I'm concerned, our lives would be impoverished without it ! :)  Composing is all about 'Sharing the Joy, Passion and Angst' we experience in Life, as well as connecting with Musicians and 'Creatives' worldwide. This makes it even more wonderful!  That willingness to engage in whatever way makes SC an ever-expanding Movable Feast that nourishes and inspires on so many levels. 

Music Communicates the Emotional and Informational Content and Context of Heart, Mind, Spirit, and Soul. And 'Letting it Flow' is 'Where Its At' as I hear it!  

Over the past few years since becoming part of the SoundCloud Family, my 'Joy in and Passion for' Creative Musical Expression has increased exponentially as has my appreciation of all the wonderfully passionate Musicians and Creatives worldwide who have devoted themselves to Letting It Take Form! 

Here's a bit of a bio, if anyone is interested.  

Somehow, my MUSE got my attention at a tender age. About the time I was completing my Royal Conservatory training. 

My memory being poorer than most, I began improvising in the passages I had forgotten. And while the audience seemed unaware, my teacher chastised me indulgently, saying, "it appears I have a budding composer on my hands"!  And thus began my Odyssey into the wonderful Vibrational world of Sound!:-) In-deed, I have been an ardent, attentive and appreciative acolyte of my Muse ever since. 

During the early 1970s I had the pleasure and honour of a three year friendship and Master Class with the then Octogenarian Composer Manoah Leide-Tedesco , one of Tone Poem giant Richard Strauss` favorite pupils and friend of Maurice Ravel and other 20th century composers such as Stravinsky (whose music he helped popularize). Since then, whether Improvising, listening, studying composition or devoting myself wholly to the visual arts for years at a time, I have been deeply aware that sharing my musical insights , teaching, and or mentoring young aficionados came with the territory!   I love it, although I am afraid that as my consciousness expands...that I know less and less each year! :-)  

The Tonal Oasis called SoundCloud is a fine and wondrous place in oh so many ways.  And with your support and appreciation, I de-Light to share my music with an ever widening audience. I call what i upload ' Sound-Seeds'.  Most of these 'bed tracks' call out to be fleshed out by passionate soloists who somehow Resonate with my Soundz and Ideas.  So please drop me a line, as i am most interested in letting them bear more fruit through collaboration, interpretation, re-mixing or use in other media.

Also DJing for Foreign Beggars, Stig of the Dump, Jehst and Micall Parknsun, he is certainly no stranger to the UK scene.

There are certain bands that demand to be listened in a certain way: Pink Floyd might require a bong & lazer light show; Led Zeppelin benefits from giant, wood-paneled speakers, and FREE ENERGY—a band responsible for having crafted some of the finest guitar-filled power pop this side of Weezer or Cheap Trick—should be played on a cassette deck in a Camaro screaming down the highway; stereo cranked, feather roach clip dangling from the rearview.

“Being from the Midwest definitely informed our aesthetic,” says Free Energy vocalist Paul Sprangers. “Growing up in a small town with radio and MTV—then later discovering indie rock and punk rock—really shaped the kind of music we make now. So, I had the same kind of unabashed love for Phil Collins as I did for Pavement—I don’t think I ever grew out of that. It probably shows.”

The story of FREE ENERGY, however, doesn’t begin in the backseat of a muscle car, rather St. Paul, Minnesota, where Sprangers and guitarist Scott Wells—both members of the late, great Hockey Night—were signed to NYC powerhouse DFA records based on their homemade demos. After signing and spending a year writing and demoing they moved to NYC to record with James Murphy. As the record neared completion, Sprangers and Wells moved to Philly, brought in their Minnesota friends to fill out the band, and toured relentlessly behind the release of 2010’s Stuck on Nothing.

While it might have seemed an odd fit for a power-riffing pop rock act to put out a record on a West Village disco label, the euphoric vibe of Free Energy—embodied in tracks like “Free Energy” and “Bang Pop”—was actually a perfect compliment to the roster of artistically different but equally accomplished bands, such as Black Dice, Yacht, The Rapture, and LCD Soundsystem. The record spawned nearly two years of solid touring and a pile of accolades, including a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone’s assessment that the band “totally fucking rules.”

At a time when a lot of indie rock is mired in gloom or coated with layers of reverb, FREE ENERGY is interested in sounding like Thin Lizzy or Fleetwood Mac: old-school juggernauts that made clear, well-crafted hook-laden singalongs; songs about love, truth, and the journey within. It’s a time-tested formula, but clearly one that can still sound fresh in the right hands.

“For some reason, DFA was the only label that really understood us,” says Sprangers, “They got what we were trying to do, and could hear potential in our demos. We learned so much from their philosophy, and continue to apply it to this day—it was a true education. So, after having done a record with James and DFA—which was a dream come true—it felt like a good time to push ourselves further, which turned out to be making and releasing a record ourselves.”

As the band began work on album number two they flirted with a couple different producers. They cut an unreleased track with Jeff Glixman (the producer responsible for Kansas’ classic rock staple, “Dust in the Wind”) before doing a trial run with John Agnello. Agnello’s work with the likes of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. and The Hold Steady made him a good fit for the band, but it was his formative work in the 80’s with the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Hooters, and Bruce Springsteen that sealed the deal.

“He really produced,” says Wells. “He came to band practices in Philly. He helped us shape the songs and get the sounds that we needed. He helped us get more clean, digital drum sounds like The Outfield used, which was a priority for us. We wanted to make the biggest, brightest rock songs we could. ”

The resulting album is Love Sign, to be released on the band’s new imprint “Free Energy Records” in January of 2013. Much like it’s predecessor, the new record flirts with hysteria-inducing pop songwriting and classic rock production. Tracks like “Electric Fever,” “Hey Tonight” and “Girls Want Rock” demonstrate the band doing what they love—condensing handclaps, harmonies, fist-pumping choruses, and lazer guided guitar leads in such a way that the songs always feel vaguely familiar. These are songs that demand to be blasted in a car as one sings along at the top of one’s lungs. These are songs crafted by young men who clearly have an understanding of pop music’s DNA; the way a good melody can be more catchy than the common cold. Given their go-for-broke vibe, It makes sense that the band keeps a framed photo of Van Halen in their practice space.

Ultimately, Free Energy occupy their own interesting niche. Are they an indie rock band? A classic rock band? A power pop band? Even the band isn’t sure (“I wish someone would tell us what we are,” says Sprangers, “because we’ve been described as everything!”), but in the end it doesn’t matter. The tracks on Love Sign flirt with the great themes of lasting rock music—the search for truth, falling in and out of love, and the quest for happiness—without ever sounding like retreads of a bygone era. Love Sign proves that there will always be ways to reconfigure the rock and roll archetypes into something fresh and —for lack of a better word—rocking.

“When I think of great songs by Peter Gabriel, or Tom Petty, I hear the them almost like hymns. They speak to something greater than ourselves. Even the simplest rock music—songs about partying and girls—can be transcendental,” says Sprangers. “I hope people can relate to what we do on some level. I hope kids like it. I hope moms like it. I don’t care about being cool, I just want to connect. I want people to know that no matter what, life is good, and every experience is meaningful. Maybe that’s weird. But we definitely feel like weirdos and we always have…maybe we always will, which is totally fine.“

ROBERT GERARD GOULET
NOVEMBER 26, 1933 – OCTOBER 30, 2007
Born Robert Gerard Goulet on November 26, 1933 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Joseph and Jeannette Goulet who were of French Canadian descent. His father worked as a textile mill guard and was a fine amateur singer, which influence young Goulet to begin singing when he was five years old at family gatherings. After his father’s death, Jeanette Goulet moved with 13-year-old Robert and his sister Claire, to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he spent his most formative years. His first professional appearance was at age 16 in Handel's Messiah with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Following a two-year stint as a radio announcer, he was awarded a singing scholarship to the Royal Conservatory of Music, University of Toronto, Canada. He began his entertainment career in his teens on Canadian radio and television, and in the 1950’s he became a popular young star in Canada appearing in scores of theatrical, radio and television productions -- culminating as host of the weekly network variety show for CBC-TV, "General Electric's Showtime".

Mr. Goulet was cast as Sir Lancelot in the 1960 Broadway production of Camelot starring opposite theatre giants Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. He took Broadway by storm and achieved instant recognition with his performance and interpretation of the show-stopping song “If Ever I would Leave You” which became his signature song.

The dark, handsome, blue-eyed newcomer who like no other had a unique resonant and stirring baritone voice, redefined the interpretation of the romantic ballad and forever changed the sound on Broadway. His debut in Camelot launched him internationally on an award-winning stage, screen and recording career that led him on a remarkable journey.

His vocal talents illuminated every medium of the entertainment world. A Grammy, Tony and an Emmy award winner, Robert Goulet’s illustrious career spanned for almost six decades! It is for these achievements that Robert Goulet stands as one of the greatest baritones of all time, who was also undoubtedly one of the most prominent musical stars to grace the stages worldwide.

The big-voiced baritone, died from pulmonary fibrosis on October 30, 2007 at age 73.

As the Broadway community mourned the loss of Robert Goulet, the theater marquees in New York and in cities across North America were dimmed in his memory on Wednesday, October 31, 2007.

On Friday November 9, 2007 the day of his funeral, Las Vegas honored the late singer, actor and entertainer in an unprecedented tribute by closing the Las Vegas Strip for his funeral procession.

As he took his last ride and his final bow every Las Vegas hotel-casino featured his name on their marquees saying goodbye to a man who became a legend in his own lifetime.
