This past summer to prepare for making solo sounds for dancers (beloved companions Andy and Shawn), I spent a large portion of each day playing saxophone in a tunnel in Prospect Park (or if it was already taken somewhere nearby). Sometimes I recorded the sessions, sometimes I didn’t. These were times to work through stale ideas, create new ones, and find spaces of novelty within tired patterns. In many ways, I think I was learning and listening more closely to what it is I am actually trying to communicate through this weird piece of plumbing during all these years.  

Time in NY - surrounded by so much brilliance and so much sound - challenged me to really explore this horn-brain-decaying body-historicalsocial conjucture and this is one snippet of an intense time of that.  

It feels vulnerable, putting all this raw/unedited saxo slop into the world, but I’m also proud of all the little slivers of creation, sensitivity, playing in and with all of the surrounding movement-sounds, the magical dance of the late afternoon park. 

One part of one afternoon session in August, an artifact of study, and a small reminder to keep listening and playing. 

DJ PECUECA hopped on and lightly mixed in some found sound-rhythms from the same time period. 

More library music for the nerds.

This is my first mix aired online around the mid 90's w/ the new development of the internet.  Videos online were barely developing. We found many records by raw street digging, also Ebay was brand new, no soundclips/videos for auctions or purchases, we all had to literally call our seller friends to listen to what we wanted to buy outright or bid via phone speaker. No Youtube, no tracklist groups, the best were mailing list of records dug globally for sale that connected some of us . It was the old way of the music hustle. It kept us all unique, humble, hard working, and respectful of each others "digs".   I was around 22 yrs of age here.  The website this mixed aired on was deephousepage.com, which was a pivitol website that started connecting dance music, the lovers of dance music, and djs worldwide til we know things now. The site has been a long time defukt, along with this mix like many that went into obscurity. Now available again after personally revisting it and transferring it from cassette for our ears. This mix is in it's original uncensored version. Enjoy!
