A selection of contemporary lounge core chill-out tunes, selected to help rest the mind. A sonic break on the downtempo side of things, from the busyness of everything all the time. No planned order or set list, just feeling the vibes outside my window. 

These tracks are trip friendly and uplifting atmospheres, synthesized, sampled and arranged by some of my favorite beatmakers: Funki Porcini, The Irresistible Force, DJ Krush, Brian Eno + Fred Again, Sault D-Styles. Kicked off with hauntingly strange-but-good music from the TV series White Lotus. Soak up and enjoy the tropical exotica and tag along for a journey into ambient beats, psychedelic dub and sonic rainbow showers. 

This is relaxing music, chill out, music to meditate and contemplate, music that goes with a global heat wave, with just enough discordance to remind the listener that we are sitting on a precipice. This is not candy pop happiness or absolute joy, but a journey through emotions, hot and cold, transcendent and melancholy, trip wizard waltz and jazz tinged beat puzzles, lazy ride cymbals and distorted tape loops. Scratched soundtracks from future science frictions, laid back, on the lilted back beat swing, some soul in the bowl, please enjoy it and be well.

This Is How We Chill In 2023

THIS IS HOW WE CHILL IN 2023

A new DJ set featuring a stack of new tunes rolling along at 132 BPM. These are bass monsters, breakbeat bleepers, sons and daughters of electronica, sub bass boomers, deep scratch house zoomers and breaks. Mixed using a DJ controller (Algoriddim Pro) in Amsterdam. 20/06/2023.    

These tracks are moody and heavily diminished, minimal and mashed up. Tones and emotions pondering upon artificial intelligences, machines that learn, samplers, beats and bass commentary. There are clashes and missed beats, mistakes turned into themes. A variation of different beat patterns, muggy atmospheres, dusty cellar flavours and old broken down haunted audio laboratories. This is murk from the gutter, glimmers in the twilight, shades and shadows of dub, all swung to move bodies this way and that on the dancefloor. 

Music that airs frustration, tension and clashes. Anti-social media, greedy music platforms and politics, war and greed, famine and shadowbanned bass. Explorations in audio of brutal media regimes, boom bust speakers grind into expansive terrors of a dark web gone overground. Crypto-fascists snorting it up with tech moguls and data robbers, a great surveillance capitalism party out of control, a DJ gone mad. All this is oozing out of the squashed metal breakbeats and subsonic screams of this mashup. Naturally, the beats are mashed and filtered, blended and beat matched on the fly, no plan but to follow the groove from wherever it begins. 

Hooked on breaks since 1993 onwards, I’ve always liked to hover around 130 BPM, slowing down some jungle and DnB tunes, speeding up funk breaks and hip hop. The emergence of breakbeat electronica, and splintering off to mate with like minded styles, always appealed to my ears, breaking the four to the flour trance so widespread throughout club land. Indeed, there are many uplifting and melodic alternative breakbeats, as I often heard around the bay area electronic DJ scene around the turn of the millennium. Sub bass is an irresistible part of these tunes, and although some mixes bravely mix bass lines, it’s a theme running alongside the beats. Subs, breaks, atmospheres, across sub genres, basement bangers. Gritty stochastic crisp loops, menacing acid squelch of hidden variables at play. Grotty, snotty and made to move yer’ botty. This is a first mix with these tunes, and I’m happy to share the discovery with your ears.

QUE DANSE LE MONDE

This came from absolutely nowhere on Easter Sunday 2020. I think I was angry about lockdown and the government handling of the situation. My thoughts on the matter came true as time passed and it serves as a lesson to think for yourself! I consider this piece an example of "just do it" - I wrote it, played it into Cubase and never touched it again, just exported this mp3 and it's sat around ever since.
