Nirvana Variation 5

Learning his craft in his native Paris, Mauvais Parisienne’s early sets fused disco and funk with house influences from The Shapeshifters to Erick Morillo. From rooftop parties and river barges to clubs, castles, and underground cellars, he became a fixture wherever the music played loud, lighting up every corner of Paris’s nightlife.

Inspired by electronic pioneers like Darude, Daft Punk, and Eddie Amador, Mauvais Parisien bought his first vinyl decks at just sixteen — and never looked back. 

What started behind the decks soon evolved into curating events across the city — a natural progression for an artist driven by connection, energy, and groove. Today, those years of crate-digging and dancefloors fuel his productions, where Mauvais Parisien transforms his lived experience into sound.

From vinyl to studio, each track tells the story of a lifelong obsession with rhythm, people, and the pulse of Paris.

I have a powerful and moving story to share with you.

Terry and Paula Bullent have lived a life touched by art, by teaching, and by a kind of creative partnership that leaves a mark on the people around them. Terry unfortunately now has advanced stages of Parkinson’s.

Paula, has written the most beautiful poem about their relationship. She has poured so much emotion and clarity into a poem about their shared journey… that alone is extraordinary.

I felt that spark strongly enough to translate it into music — to give her words another life, another medium, another way for people to feel what she expressed. 

As an act of care, friendship, and artistic respect. Collaborating with Ethan M. and giving it that John Farnham-style production, we believe we have created something truly stirring.

The final piece carries the weight of a lifetime, the fragility of the present moment, and the strength of a bond that endures through it all.

Con Crazy Connection, Mauvais Parisien, abre la puerta con un primer corte que no busca agradar: atrapa. El track respira a través de un groove elástico y un bajo de trazo firme que se encadena a percusión microdetallada; cada golpe está colocado para generar esa tensión que, en club, hace mirar al booth. La lead principal entra con un timbre casi conversacional —no brilla, susurra— y la interacción con las capas atmosféricas crea la sensación de que dos ciudades laten a la vez. Es ahí donde aparece la “conexión”: un diálogo entre melodía contenida y energía cinética que evita el clímax obvio y, en cambio, empuja la pista hacia un estado de imán permanente.

El break desarma el ritmo en pequeños destellos y deja la armonía al frente; cuando el kick vuelve, no es un “drop” histriónico, sino un reenganche que reafirma la arquitectura del track. La mezcla privilegia el mid-range muscular y un low-end limpio, ideal para cabinas que exigen control y traducción. En cabina, es material para abrir second slots con intención o para reactivar la pista sin quemar cartuchos.
