“Happy To Be Here” was recorded at local recording studio, Impression Recording Studio, in Niagara Falls owned by Niagara area musicians Mark Rogers (LMT Connection) and Myles Rogers (JIN the Band) who both play on all tracks on the album. The record consists of 10 original songs by Evan Rotella who penned most of these songs from 15 to 17 years of age.

The album includes guest appearances by Dave Rave (Teenage Head), , Joe Grushecky, Danny Gochnour & Joffo Simmons (Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers), Joe D’Urso (Joe D’Urso and Stone Caravan), Stephen Stanley (Lowest of the Low), Jason Heath & Jason Federici (Jason Heath & The Greedy Souls), Nicole Cerminara (JIN The Band), Alistair Robertson (Soul Jam), Frankie Pietrangelo (The Maddhatters), and one of his rock and roll heroes, New Jersey’s Bobby Mahoney (Bobby Mahoney & The Seventh Son).

Christmas Time Again 2023

“Last Train Home” is a 7-song acoustic reflection on trans rights, lost love and nostalgia for small-town, hometown kindness. Rotella, who grew up listening to his dad’s Springsteen and Jackson Browne records has taken those influences and melded them with the best and brightest of the Gen X and Z songwriters. “Early in the summer, I listened to Zach Bryan’s “The Great American Bar Scene” from beginning to end,” recalls Rotella. “It felt like a bat signal to any other artist who prided themselves on writing lyrics for people to hear, not just to listen to. It felt big; like for the first time in a long time, people cared about what an artist had to say.”

Rotella turned his focus to doing something similar but on a smaller scale, maybe a three or four song acoustic E.P., but the songs kept coming. The resulting album came about quite naturally. “At the end of the summer, we talked about it with Mark Rogers at Impression Recording Studio,” said Rotella. “A week later I was in studio. We recorded the whole album in one session.” 

The new songs have already turned the head of Canadian song writing legend Dave Rave of Teenage Head. “Evan Rotella is one of the finest new songwriters in the music scene today,” said Rave. “He puts more into one song than most do a whole album. This new record is testament to that power and strength. “

Cut The Music

Evan began playing in front of a live audience when he was 11 and began writing songs at age 12. He has played theatres, bars, patios, churches, backyards, and has shared the stage with Joe Grushecky, Steve Earle, Bobby Mahoney, Willie Nile, Joe D'Urso and more! 

He is currently working on his debut album, Happy To Be Here, with Myles and Mark Rogers of Impression Recording Studios.
