"Su nombre se vincula a la voz latina futuro (hado, destino). Intervienen mágicamente en los sucesos de los hombres. Se ha dicho que las hadas son las más numerosas, las más bellas y las más memorables de las divinidades menores. No están limitadas a una sola región o a una sola época. Los antiguos griegos, los esquimales y los pieles rojas narran historias de héroes que han logrado el amor de esas fantásticas criaturas. Tales aventuras son peligrosas; el hada, una vez satisfecha su pasión, puede dar muerte a sus amantes.
En Irlanda y en Escocia les atribuyen moradas subterráneas, donde confinan a los niños y a los hombres que suelen secuestrar. La gente cree que poseían las puntas de flechas neolíticas que exhuman en los campos y a las que dotan de infalibles virtudes medicinales.
A las hadas les gusta el color verde, el canto y la música.
