In the aftermath of Bri's death, me and my brother Gal had many conversations about ways in which we could celebrate his life, particularly in regard to his music.  His songs were the soundtrack to our life, pretty much uncelebrated outside of the family circle but as important to us as those that spawned lifelong careers for their creators in the big wide world existing outside the close-knit Reeves clan.
Through his membership at the mental health charity Core Arts, Gal became aware of SoundCloud.  In May 2012, he logged-in for the very first time and quickly  became utterly fascinated with the site.  Before long, he created a page called ‘Mountain Songs’, so named after Rocky Mountain, the alter-ego Bri had adopted during his late teenage years.
More in hope than expectation, Gal posted a few songs. Plays didn’t exactly flood-in at first, until Gal realised that to get, one had to give, so he set about finding artists whose music pushed all the right buttons. So began an obsession that would take him to unexpected horizons and which, in return, brought many to the Mountain Songs page. 
One who returned time after time was an Australian artist called ‘Chris O’, who left behind so many positive, encouraging comments.  At that stage he didn’t even know how to reply to these but Chris took the trouble to educate him in the finer points of SC etiquette and as time went on, a true music friendship was born.  When she was touring the UK, she even took the trouble to visit him on more than once occasion, virtual friends becoming in-the-flesh real.  
A few months ago, Chris sent Gal the most wonderful present.  Previously, Gal had sent her a link to a video he’d once made of cloud formations, which Chris seemed to enjoy very much.  Consequently, her gift was a wonderful video of clouds, seen from ground level and also from various aeroplane trips she'd taken over the years, accompanied by a stunning song called ‘Looking Up and Down’ which, to Gal’s amazement, she dedicated to him:

Around the same time, Chris had left a comment under the Cripple Club song ‘My Atheist Angels’, lamenting that she had never found the love I had with Jo but in her usual way, expressing solace that she nonetheless had her “guitars, banjos and songs”.  This got me thinking that  maybe Chris had no idea how much and how widely she is herself loved.  And so started the germ of an idea for a song that would express my admiration for her talent and drive.  I know there are many among you who’d agree and hope I’ve managed to encapsulate that admiration in the track.  Many thanks for reading and listening.  (Terry Reeves)

THE LOVE OF MRS. O - CRIPPLE CLUB

Sonic Structures and Silent Stretches a.k.a. Jo Richter (@sonic-textures) wrote a series of 13 poems or cantos collectively titled Departure. He shared the texts with me, Stonerjazz, and Re-Evolution Cafe Orchestra and we have been working on the project of bringing them alive with music and soundscapes. How long he stayed, he could not tell.
He worked ferociously, sounding all
existence that had touched upon him into
being: the smell of meadows, the curl of
ripples, the calm that centers in a storm;
the timbre of voices, the straight lines of buildings,
the aloofness of announcers on the radio.
His desk was cluttered, his mind strove clear.

When he did not write, he‘d read up on
the origins of his ancient art: Vergil and Dante,
Marlow and Shakespeare, Homer and Joyce,
Ovidus, Cervantes, Rabelais and Wieland.
He felt the linguistic seeds, blown from foreign
stems, grow filaments deep in his native soil, he
saw them ripen, flower profusely, yielding
their beauty to ever-changing mentalities.

And as his insight widened and he gained
perspective, the rows of encyclopedias
and dictionaries that lined his shelves
slimmed down, as he gave up consulting
English for French and German, these for
Latin and Greek, those for Persian and Sanskrit,
until he only referred to Indo-European roots.
His desk turned clear, his mind became uncluttered.

Eventually, he also slept and dreamt
whenever the veil sank upon him.
Guarded by the spire‘s safe walls, he would
awaken slowly, remembering outlandish
lore, scribbling notes and poems of bizarre
truthfulness and penning recollections of his
archetypal ties. Some of his realistic verse de-
rived from fragments of prolonged poetic trance.

His muse meanwhile taught him to cook, the
art of mixing individual ingredients to bring about
a taste all of its own that nourishes both mind and
physicality. The painters tend to fixate on surface
and colour, she said, the musicians on timing
the process, whereas the poets never get anything
done, enchanted by words like ‚ginger‘ or ‚yeast‘.
All of their dishes taste awful.

A very long time ago, humans took nature's example on a large number of things with delicacy and respect, which was very beneficial to them.
Then as man's intelligence developed, he tried to do better than nature by respecting it as much as possible.
By trying to circumvent the laws of nature, she will turn against the one who outrageously hurts her because in everything there is a price to pay and here we are at dawn.

Il y a très longtemps, les humains prenaient avec délicatesse et respect, l'exemple de la nature sur un très grand nombre de choses, ce qui leur était très bénéfique.
Puis à mesure que l'intelligence de l'homme se développait, il essayait de faire mieux que la nature en la respectant autant que possible.
A force de chercher à contourner les lois de la nature, elle se retournera contre celui qui lui fait outrageusement mal car dans tout il y a un prix à payer et nous voici à l'aube.
