Włócząc się po łąkach i polach bez większego celu zwróciłem uwagę na kawałek podmokłego terenu i skupisko trzcin. Mocno wiało, więc znalazłem miejsce w miarę osłonięte od wiatru i zabrałem się do nagrywania szelestu suchych trzcin. Dodatkowym zaskoczeniem były wokalizujące w pobliżu żurawie.

Wandering through the meadows and fields without much purpose, I noticed a piece of marshy ground and a cluster of reeds. It was blowing hard, so I found a place somewhat sheltered from the wind and set about recording the rustle of dry reeds. An additional surprise were the vocalizing cranes nearby.

Wiatr w trzcinach i zurawie / Wind in the reeds and cranes

Silny wiatr w środku łąki spowodował, że usiadłem schowany za belą siana, żeby od niego odpocząć. Postawiłem mikrofon za drugą belą, choć nie uchroniło go to zupełnie od uderzeń mocniejszych podmuchów. Ze słonecznego, wietrznego dnia nagle zrobiło się szaro, odezwały się syreny alarmowe, wiatr wzmógł jeszcze bardziej i uderzyła fala śniegu. Wiatr szeleści i szarpie trawami, gwiżdże na załomach beli, huczy i szumi dookoła.

Strong wind in the middle of the meadow made me sit down hidden behind a hay bale to take a break from it. I placed the microphone behind another bale, although it did not completely protect it from the impact of stronger gusts. Suddenly it turned gray from a sunny, windy day, alarm sirens sounded, the wind picked up even more and a wave of snow struck. The wind rustles and tugs at the grass, whistles on the bends of the bale, rumbles and hums all around.

The last days of February were colder and a solid ice of about three inches formed partially one mile out to sea. The Whooper Swans had arrived past week but what I think could be Bean Goose appeared for the first time. At 9 min a fox is crying. 

The sea water was rising due to an arriving low front. This and because the ice was new and solid, causes the crackling sounds. I was lucky to experience this, as it is absolutely not a common phenomenon, at least not here by the sea shore.  The picture with a big Venus and new moon was taken during the recording.

Night by new Ice - 28/2/2020 - Makholma Shore

The 156.4-square-kilometere Żerków-Czeszewo Landscape Park was set up in 1994 and straddles Września, Jarocin and Środa Wielkopolska counties. It lies in the centre of Wielkopolska and consists of two distinct parts. Forests and meadows dominate in the northern part while the southern part is mostly rural.

Glacial action has left the park with a diversified terrain, from the flat, undulating morainal uplands north of the Warta, to the Warsaw-Berlin glacial valley in the centre, and on to the Żerków embankment  further south whose highest point is Łysa Góra (161 m asl). Close to 40% is covered by forests, the most beautiful and valuable (from a natural standpoint) being the Czeszewo forests in the Warta and Lower Lutynia valleys situated in the northern part of the park. The common ash, pedunculate oak, small-leaved lime and black alder are the most important species of tree in these forests. The forest cover of the southern part of the park, by contrast, has been significantly transformed and an artificially planted pine monoculture holds sway. There are some 800 species of vascular plants are recorded here. Many of them, including ivy, woodruff and lily of the valley, are rare and protected species. The fauna is no less abundant and includes rare species of invertebrate - particularly the red-rimmed melania found in the Dębno nad Wartą (Dębno–on–Warta) wildlife reserve. About 210 species of bird nest in the park, including the lesser spotted eagle, white-tailed eagle, black stork, kingfisher, middle spotted woodpecker and a whole host of water birds. The Dwunastak and Czeszewski Las (Czeszewo Forest) reserves protect the park’s most precious forest stands. There is a scenic outlook over the village of Brzostków and the surrounding post-glacial landscape on the road from Żerków to Śmiełów.

Zerkow - Czeszewo Landscape Park

Early morning in little Makholma Village harbor, a place only one hundred meters from our home. Black-headed Gulls are screaming along with the terns, a fishing boat goes to sea and Barn Swallows are chirping. Still an idyllic place in early morning, there will be a lot of road noise and car traffic later along the day.
