notes: now, that SHELLF LIFE - professional musicians throughout - have eventually handed back my soundcloud account, here’s a little proof of amateur ownership. yes, there is no translation - not even an interlinear one - since this is one of those poems that sound like utter gibberish in English – which would be fine, if that matched the German level of meaning. the poem, though, ponders the human condition. there might be some kind of pun in this observation, I guess.
method: all sounds have been created on the Behringer Crave (via a Flamma stereo modulation pedal into Zoom r12), apart from the artificial voice called Katja (via Magix hub) and some distortion and vocoding etc in post production (with Audacity and Samplitude).

This song began as an idea Tez came up with on his guitar while on holiday not far from his home in Wales. It had such a solid form, it inspired Mark to write lyrics and come up with vocal melodies within a few days of hearing it for the first time. The two of them have written several songs like this, making them a solid songwriting source for Eclectic Collective. 

  Once the song had a even more solid form, Ken took added his dynamic, bouncy-groove drums to it. As soon as Ken had the drums down, Josh took his turn, adding the fretless bass and solidifying the groove. Now that the basic framework was done, Stephen added his thrilling electric guitar. Last, but certainly not least, JJ added his dancing organ and the really cool, psych synth lead part in the bridge towards the end. Mark also added some awesome backing synth to it, as well, filling out the sound. At the very end of the process, Tez also dropped in the hot intro and outro solos, as well.

  Once we had it all in the can, it was time to turn it over to Tez for his expert production and mix. He came up with the idea of adding reverb to the drums, as well as some other compression tricks, which he employed with subtle style. 

   This, as mentioned, is a great example of what Eclectic Collective can do in house with the composition and songwriting skills of Tez and Mark. The rest of us really had fun working on this one, too, of course. We hope you enjoy listenig to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

Summer is marked by certain experiences, from swimming, to strolls along boardwalks, to...well...waiting in queues of all kinds as summer sees people fill outdoor spaces. Keith has a keen eye for observing these experiences and finding humour and stories in  all of it.

Welcoming our special guest voice - Sheila - the server at the window , whose calming, inquiring presence makes the  lineup tolerable ;)

Note: the term "poutine" on the side of the chip truck makes this a uniquely Canadian flavour  :)

Initially this track was written more than 6 months ago as an exercise to complete a song no longer than 60 seconds. When it was finished,I had a notion of fleshing it out for another minute or so, to continue the story and perhaps bring a conclusion.

Amanda very kindly stepped up to sing in the second half of the song,even though life was attempting to get in the way of plans! Much obliged Amanda,without your input the song would have stayed at 60 seconds.
