The concept of this mix is inspired by the artistic technique of chiaroscuro, a term rooted in the Italian words for light (chiaro) and dark (scuro). Similarly, this mix explores the dynamic interplay between contrasting elements in sound. As the mix unfolds, it moves through phases of intensity and calm, darkness and light, harsh textures and smooth rhythms. Each transition mirrors the gradual shift from shadow to light, capturing the essence of chiaroscuro in an auditory landscape. The dark, brooding basslines and haunting melodies serve as the "shadows," while the brighter, more uplifting elements cut through like "light," bringing balance and intrigue to the overall experience.
The mix’s energy comes from this contrast, creating a journey that feels both tense and uplifting—like moving through a twilight world where every moment hovers between darkness and light. Hopefully this helps listeners connect with the mix on a deeper level.

Thank you ! The way I build a radio show is slightly different from how I prepare for a live show, though both share the common thread of creating a narrative or storyline. I have a deep obsession with discovering new music, constantly searching for tracks I haven't heard before. I dig through platforms like Bandcamp and Discogs, and working for the bookings and programming at Venue MOT, where I spend most weekends, exposes me to a wide variety of music that I often Shazam. A radio mix, for me, is essentially a curated compilation of my favorite tracks discovered that month. When preparing for a live show, however, I have to consider factors like set time, the venue, and the rest of the lineup. My process involves going through my music library and organising tracks into different folders, always with a clear direction in mind for where I want to take the audience.

Hewan Aman is Paris-based DJ, radio host, event and community organiser whose 2024 schedule has been filled with impressive club and festival appearances across Europe. Hewan’s sound as a DJ revolves around a keen attention to detail - power, depth and intricate rhythms often find themselves as the forefront of her sets that span, fast paced techno, drum & bass and hypnotic psy-leaning sounds.

Her radio show and mix series ‘Tentacular’ and follow up show ‘Dub Delights’ on Rinse France have afforded her the space and place to generate this sound and vision as an artist. As Hewan explains it ‘Tentacular’ alludes to “a sprawling devotion to purpose and connection”, a theme that injects itself into the entirety of Hewan’s work. A further recurring theme in conversations with Hewan is intention - a core value alongside purpose and connection that drives her approach to artistry, the music industry, and life beyond. A thoughtful approach that sometimes feels like a rare quality in the fast-paced world of electronic music. Additionally, Hewan is a member of @audeladuclub, a community-based collaborative that promotes a reimagined nightlife with safe and inclusive events and spaces at the fore. The collaborative publish their communique via the ‘Flashes’ zine, which further explores these themes via interviews and articles collected, conducted and published through intersectional feminist lens.

I’m honoured to be airing Hewan’s live recording from @noname_community's La Nature festival - a festival hosting 800 dancing souls in front of a wooden church stage surrounded by Ardenne forest. The mix was recorded Friday 21st June 11pm-1am, so expect a quintessentially psychedelic journey to propel you into the weekend.
