Cause we desperately need some Camus's wiseness in this world...here is a demo track built upon a rough sample of French poet and MC Abd Al Malik reading an extract of his (highly-recommended) essay "Camus, l'art de la révolte".

In this book, he offers a contemporary vision of Camus's legacy, explaining how the writer's message and humanist vision had a  powerful impact on his life and career.
More specifically , the lyrics in this track are an allegory of Camus's L'Etranger, transposed in a contemporary inner-city neighborhood environment, like the one in which Abd Al Malik grew up is eastern France.

Today, we are sharing another new track from our upcoming THE LADIES OF TSTD 2 compilation with you:

Terea – Pretty Bird

Sharon Robinson, AKA ‘Terea’ (her middle name) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known, loved and adored as a frequent writing collaborator of Leonard Cohen. She toured as back-up singer for Cohen in 1979 and 1980, and then again during 2008–2013. They co-wrote the songs “Everybody Knows” and “Waiting for the Miracle”, released in 1988 and 1992 respectively. In 2001 she co-wrote, produced, arranged and performed the backing tracks (as well as appearing alongside Cohen on the cover) for his album Ten New Songs. Robinson also contributed to three tracks on Cohen's 2004 album Dear Heather, and duetted with Cohen on “The Letters”. At the start of her career she released a wonderful, self-titled soul album called simply, “Terea” from which we’ve plucked the glorious ‘Pretty Bird’. The album’s release was undermined by the record label being a glorified tax dodge, but was finally re-issued by Jazzman Records. Sharon has also written songs for a number of other artists, including The Pointer Sisters, Aaron Neville, Brenda Russell, Diana Ross, Don Henley, Michael Bolton, Randy Crawford, Patti LaBelle, Roberta Flack, and The Temptations. Many thanks to Marc Janssen from Everland Records for helping us license this track.

The songs on this compilation are from women who were taking control of their own careers, making an independent stance in some of the most trying years for women in the history of the recording industry. In an effort to tell the often untold, yet deeply influential, stories of this delicious period of music, Volume 2 highlights songs from players who broke through the machismo that sat upon the glass ceiling before them to create classics.

Despite the artist name and album title, this is far from being the collection of 15 limp, same-y soul ballads you might be fearing! Instead, Secret Soul Society - AKA Neon Heights front man Cal Gibson and friends - serve up veritable sm?rg?sbord of Balearic delights, from the dusty, looped disco-soul of 'Better Get To Know You' and the folksy Laurel Canyon vibes of 'Groovy Coconuts' to the 80s soul redux of 'Find Our Way', the bonkers 'Leeping For Joy' which should appeal to fans of 4hero, Four Tet et al, and the Stevie Nicks-biting 'Stevie Loves Bettye'.
