Its been more than six months since I’ve had the last chance to play some music in front of a crowd. I tried to put all of my hope, my love & dedication as well as my anger into this DJ mix. This journey reflects what I would be playing in the morning hours at a club such as KaterBlau and some melancholic-melodic moments to just make you fly away. Trekking through long and humid days of a lively summer, we find ourselves yearning to take the longer route more frequently. In an effort to capture slowed moments of the expansive world around us, we turn to an eccentric up and comer to help us master meditation through downtempo and space.

It was only a couple short seasons ago that French artist néel introduced themselves to us, bringing forth handmade audio relics like a merchant traveling across the mountainous internet. We were enticed hearing the byproduct of computerized sounds blended with organic field recordings - a stark yet memorable contrast. We were then astonished to hear that these demos would only mark the beginning of this contemporary guitarist's journey into our sonic niche. With a little help from our vibrant and welcoming community, we planted their compelling seedlings into the damp dirt of our musical garden.

We are proud to unveil the latest strain of our creative harvest - one as sentimental as it is inventive. Welcome to "Soft Soil EP," the debut project of néel and a field guide to their search for a newfound sonic identity. The composition was mainly developed in an isolated countryside home, utilizing its calm yet hollowing ambiance as an instrument. This stripped-down site, sometimes lacking electricity, was then filled with recordings of various social encounters on the bustling streets of urban sprawls around Europe. This juxtaposition is celebrated throughout the EP, combining both realms into one that thoughtfully expresses how their heart splits in two. The introduction serves as a synopsis of the journey ahead, mashing environmental sounds drenched in reverb under their careful guitar plucks. "Antha" brings out a more synthesized approach to néel's overall intention, yet still sounds like electronica indulged in nature. "Softly Pushed" and "Restlessness" stand out as songs with city origins - recordings of mindless chatter and flailing metal coincide with the franticness of modern drum 'n' bass. The two are split by "Sagittarius," a ravishing track that effortlessly demands attention like an unforgettable live solo. "0011" allows the project to fade out with rustic trip-hop wielding an undeniable groove - it concludes with a captivating guitar piece that softly tops off the soil blend.

"Soft Soil EP" tells the story of an artist searching for their footing, breaking the tender ground beneath them with each cautious step toward the vast ecosystem of experimental electronic music. In néel's case, the allegory digs deeper as it unearths their harmonious roots and intertwines them with the tangible world. The mixture is equal parts personal as it is musical, paving the way for what will surely be a thrilling sonic adventure.

Here is my set for Caravan Gitane on the 8th of july in New York. This was one of my most memorable gigs ever :)It took place in an 18th century Mansion just a bit north of New York. The scenery and atmosphere made it so special!

I’m happy to present you what happened to be a true adventure & a musical highlight for me this year, Journey to Tarab 2019.

The story takes place in two chapters, recorded on the Drachen Nest Saturday night in Zsambek, Hungary.

CHAPTER I

It’s 7:45pm and I’m in the DJ booth of the Drachen Nest, my equipment is connected and I’m ready to play. In the center of the dancefloor, a beautiful tandem are performing live with a super cozy setup & I discover the talented duo Ameli Paul. The stage manager gives me a sign that it’s their last song, and I have my intro tracks and samples selected - I’m ready to go and ecstatic to play. 

As my first track is playing, it only takes a few minutes before the wind blows dark and dense clouds hover above our heads. The rain starts pouring; showers. I look down for only a few seconds to mix in the next song but by the next time I look up, everyone has vanished.

A small group of people with the most vibrant energy came to seek shelter in the booth and it truly cheers me up. I’m so excited to be there and I know that such heavy rain won’t last long, staying optimistic that people will come back.

As the rain calms down, people come back, one by one. Umbrellas, raincoats, mud & smiles. The crowd continues to grow and I get to meet my dance floor one person at a time. The rain has stopped. The Drachen is blowing smoke while the sun disappears & I feel the dance floor is finally in symbiosis. I evolve tempo by a few BPM & as my most energetic track of the set drops…

B L A C K O U T. No sound, no light, it is total darkness on the dance floor, a complete power outage.

Another one in my series of mixes aimed not at the regular dancefloor, but sounds that have been with me for some time. Some new, some old. All worth listening to.
A fairly long mix of music of many different genres, put together with the act of sitting in front of an open fire in mind. Please seat yourself in your favorite forest and light that fire. Alone or perhaps softly chatting with some friends. Have a sip of that smoky whiskey your brought. Treat yourself! 
I sincerely hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

To Softly Gaze Into A Fire

This chapter of our existence feels like entering an unknown dimension.

Standing still, yet everything moving at the speed of light.

Connected more than ever, yet a digital solitude made of hertz and pixels.

Traveling from an abstract uncertainty towards a beam of hope and togetherness, I trust that this period of humanity will bring the change we need to be more united.

Forever grateful that music brought us together, here & now.
