So excited to say we have absolute "Rave Royalty' Guest Mixing on the April Episode of the Radio Show - non other than the legendary Mark Archer - a character who was pivotal and instrumental in the early 90's UK dance music scene.

FREESTYLE HOUSE CLASSICS - 88-91

The second mix of my 30 Years Of Skie +My Raving Years.

It was the end of May 1989,  I was living in  Chesterfield Derbyshire as my parents had moved there due to the house price boom in the south east. The rave scene was  virtually non existent locally so I travelled down to see someone in London, however, they cancelled last minute.  I called my brother Joe up who was a ticket agent for all of the big illegal raves and asked him what was happening that weekend- he told me there was an Energy Rave in a Film studio in Shepherds Bush West London, he offered me a ticket which was left left on the door at the event.  My friend Mia and myself turned up to a big closed gated area with crowds of people and security Guards, it was quite intimidating at first but we could not wait to find out what was on the other side,

When we finally got in it was the most amazing setting I had ever seen with a big temple erected  in the middle of the dance floor. There were bumper cars and arcades with ravers  everywhere and everyone was so friendly unlike local club nights with the usual drunk people getting dressed up and causing fights, it was different, this was very different, the clothes were colourful and baggy with floppy hats, baseball caps, African dress, psychedelic t shirts, flowery tops, it was like a secret  world within a world where everyone just danced together regardless of their ethnicity, class or religion. Football hooligans had become hippies :) The music was underground too, stuff you were unlikely to hear at mainstream clubs. It felt magical like a new step in to the future, a perfect fresh new musical Utopia.

It truly was like a secret Movement...

Thanks Fac It’s Friday : In the third of the weekly series, here with a mix dusted off and delivered from the Summer of 1991, rumoured to be a recording of a set by Dave Haslam,  who played at The Hacienda over 450 times and played the final night of the original Fac 51 on June 28th 1997. Here with a heady set of tough club garage, Italian pianos and choice hip hop slices. Dave brings his “Sweet Sensation” concept to the next Manchester Hacienda gig, the August Bank Special at Sankeys, Friday 27th August with Todd Terry, Graeme Park, DJ Woody and Rowetta (Live PA). House music has made me the person I am today, since the late 80's it has been my drug of choice - from oldskool Acid House through to brand new Funky, Breaks and Deep house, your never quite sure whats in VM's bag of goodies! 
A pair of 1200's and a mixer is all we need to get the party started, my aim is to make you want to dance, that's the DJ's job although many DJ's seem to have forgotten that!
