PREMIERE - Herzel x Metropolitan Soul Museum - Modulearic - (Benedikt Frey Remix) (Polymath)

Following hot on the heels of his recent mini-album for Elephant Gait, Italian producer Joseph Tagliabue is back with a full-length album for Invisible, Inc.

With Un' Altra Forma Di Vibrazioni Tagliabue continues to expand on the cosmic foundations laid by such pioneering experimental forefathers as Franco Battiato whose ground-breaking ambient, abstract experiments made waves in the '70s, Klaus Schulze whose legendary Innovative Communications label birthed the “Berlin school” sound in the early '80s, then tracing a path toward later luminaries like Boards of Canada and Plaid. There's a very personal, emotive, even ethereal quality also present here conjuring feelings of 4AD's glory years and the likes of This Mortal Coil and Dead Can Dance.

However, backwards-looking music this is not. It's fair to say the Milan-based producer is developing his very own distinct sound as he matures from one release to the next and regardless of his wide range of influences, it's his firm grasp of sound design and current developments in audio engineering that takes this album far beyond the realm of just “electronica” or “psychedelia” and plants it firmly into a distinctly forward-looking contemporary space of its very own, that's as much music for the heart as it is music for the head. 

It's this emotive quality that makes the album feel like a departure in sound from what the label has been doing until now so it seemed appropriate to create a sub-series for this release - and thus Black Inc. was born.

Tagliabue provides some insight into the release's creation: “Un' Altra Forma Di Vibrazioni (meaning Another Form Of Vibration in Italian) is a concept album inspired by one of the most sensational scientific discoveries of recent years, namely evidence of the existence of the "Cosmic Web". The album is comprised of ten tracks, each linked to one another, much like the various forms of matter in the cosmic web, and whose meaning can only be understood by listening to them as a collective whole: the album therefore is a well constructed sonic experience fusing elements of ambient, psych, rock, experimental and trance. Designed to be listened to continuously from start to finish, the album's journey through the universal elements is reflected in each track, whose rhythms resonate in harmony with the phenomena they represent, whilst a backdrop of drones and mesmeric grooves contribute to an atmosphere of otherworldly mechanical oneirism."

It's time for celebration ! As the Worst Records adventure goes on and on, let's take a moment for a multiverse reunion in the form of our first Greatest Hits compilation. This imaginary space is the meeting point between some figures of our hometown and others from outer lands.

You will cross the paths of the authors of the first three releases of the label, namely A Strange Wedding, Christian Coiffure and Jacques Satre (also delivering a mind-warping session under Babiah 8000 alongside Saint-Etienne's activist Farkoner). You'll also hear from Del.Duc, a member of the Positive Education crew. As special guests, we wanted to put some highlights on intriguing faces such as Itako, Gil.Barte and Tassilo Vanhoefen, providing there slow-motion, heavy dream-powered tunes in the style we adore so much. Beesmunt Soundsystem and Black Seed bring up some notable contributions from outside of France, whether it is for a raindance session or a tribal expedition.
How to sum up this whole vortex of trippy blocks of sound? Our dear friend Eiger Drums Propaganda has the answer in the opening track : some strange things happen in this city... and this city is Saint Etienne. This being said in a malicious voice, of course.

She chose music over a PhD – a truly reasonable decision if you're familiar with Julienne's discography and some of her releases on labels such as Kompakt, Optimo or Hippie Dance. Since 2012 the Berliner has taken the electronic music scene gradually, has put out her music either with Sascha Funke as Saschienne, The Twins or The Fantastic Twins and has made an ongoing impression with collaborative works like Train of Fantastic, her EPs Lost In Germany, The New You or her Obakodomo LP, to name a few. Julienne dearly has to offer quite some bits when it comes and 2020 does not seem to change that. With more than 70 unfinished demos on her hard disk, two new but not fully her own pieces of music will be released this week. Firstly, the Berliner by choice, Glaswegian by heart and originally French artist teamed up with Juan MacLean for the aromantic track She's Breaking Up in order to give an intense psychedelic experience a voice and secondly she reworked Shari Vari's tune Now. While She's Breaking Up will be out on Correspondant, Julienne's remix approach will be released on Malka Tuti. Reason enough to chat and get some insights on Julienne's personal and artistic being, how she turned to a Berliner and much more.

EXCLUSIVE: Shari Vari - Now (Fantastic Twins Remix) [Malka Tuti]

Mother of Mars​ is the latest musical outlet of New Yorkers ​Vito Roccoforte & Gabriel Andruzzi.​ Having cut their teeth as the rhythm section of​ The Rapture​, who were at the forefront of the late nineties post-punk revival scene, they took to channeling their mutual love of disco, house and techno, the bandmates took to DJing together as ​Vito & Druzz​i. Having honed their skills and joint workflow, the Mother of Mars project sees them shift focus from club orientated productions towards Avant-Garde, New Age and Experimental influences.

2018 saw their first exploration as Mother of Mars releasing their ​Seed 2 Sky​ 12” on Ransom Note Records. These synth-laden tracks, both 10 minutes in length, were lovingly crafted from their shared Brooklyn-based studio and cast a midpoint between each’s wide reaching influences. This time around, they come armed with the angelic vocals of Japanese expat ​Jaiko Suzuki​ and a variety of percussion from across the globe.
Space Without A Shadow​ is the first outing from this new body of work and is in many ways considered by the pair to be the missing track from their ​Seed 2 Sky ​release. Although both refreshing and exciting, the track unfolds in an almost familiar way. The result is a beautifully-strange fusion of genre and culture alike. Over a beating kick and layers of driving percussion, repetitive synth riffs swirl in and out of focus clearing the way for Jaiko’s multi-tracked airy vocals, subtly playing off of one another in the foreground.

“Space Without a Shadow had its genesis shortly after the writing of the first Mother of Mars release, Hera in the Valley, which came out on Ransom Note Records the 19th of January 2018. This release also marks the wonderful and talented Jaiko Suzuki joining the Mother of Mars universe. Space Without a Shadow was always intended to be the next record after Hera in the Valley and now 2+ years later or a mere fraction of a second in cosmic time, which Mother of Mars prefers to work in, we give you Space Without a Shadow.
In the song—Vito, Jaiko and Gabriel all seemed to be moving through convergent musical and lyrical lines (or possibly cycles or spirals) that passed through a space of negating the popular modern idea of the individualized objectified self. Not an annihilation of self, but the dissolving of a particular and common conception of self. As part of this process we possibly make space for something else altogether or maybe we even get rid of a sense of delimited space all together. And perhaps this comes across to the listener, and they get to share in this experience.”

On remix duties is long time friend ​Willie Burns​ who weirds up the dancefloor, still being respectful to the original and Glasgow’s rising star Mr TC who progs the whole thing up utilising the bassline to reinvented effect.

The track was mixed by previous collaborator ​Ewan Pearson​ - who remixed and produced for The Rapture -​ ​and Mastered by ​Sarah Register​ who has worked with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, Ariana Grande, Amon Tobin and Depeche Mode.

Being long time fans of the late Andrew Weatherall just like us here at MT, Full Circle approached a 2nd remix project to Die Orangen with a new angle, an hommage to A.W.

Die Orangen - Krautback (Full Circle's Fail We May Sail We Must Remix)

The Futurists rejected tradition and introduced experimental sounds , and this fact, that influenced a lot of composers during the 20th century, helped them to build a concept that started the career of Barcelona based duo Iro Aka. The evolution of their music started with this EP, fluctuating through psychedelic and esoteric influences, taking as its main references the continuous technological evolution and those new techniques to make electronic music. “Futur” is an extract of the first ideas of Iro Aka. They started the project at the beginning of the 2017 and then this EP was produced then, showing the abstraction that they felt at that moment, a path drawn by different sounds that came from different people and different places.

Tapan leaves their mark on Zukunft with reimagining the original as a slowly building, tribal inspired and almost sitting in an alternative timeline. Clever use of percussive elements does not take away from the track being playable in the club.

The slightly psychedelic dance floor experience is delivered by Anatolian Weapons. Pulsating rhythms intertwine with classic drum sounds and paint a mood almost contradicting the vocals of the track. Perfect secret track for any dance-floor.
