Fogh Depot continues its quest for the fifth element, experimenting at the confluence of jazz, modern classical, and electronic music. Two years after their first S/T release, the Moscow-based trio presents a new album - Turmalinturm.

Like the previous recording, this is a unique blend of ostensibly incompatible elements. A traditional academic approach fuses with lo-fi spontaneity. The raw and vivid texture of the bass springs forward from a modular sterility. At times the mixture is explosive. No wonder the studio where the album was created burned down a month after it was completed.

This album imparts a new, architectural dimension to Fogh Depot's music. A fortress named 'Turmalinturm' rises from a solid foundation of jazz, neoclassical minimalism, and experimental electronica. But the sophistication of the fortress' towers makes one suspect that each had its own architect. 'Quicksilver Spoon' is virtually flawless in geometric form. 'Who The Last Says No' is so fragile and delicate that it is a miracle it does not collapse. 'Oscar' is perhaps the most complex and substantial tower of the ensemble. 'Alice, Bob & Cypher' has a secret of its own in the old vaulted underground crypt. One of the structures is topped with a Gorgoneion, a stone head of Medusa. Another houses a bell tower borrowed straight from Rachmaninoff's Suite No. 1.

Tourmaline is a stone that appears to change its color depending on the angle of view. Turmalinturm's listeners get to choose how to approach the fortress. Some will discover the same pensive melancholy sounds that Fogh Depot started with. Others will find lighter, brighter, occasionally even euphoric motifs.

Aphir closely follows the release of her 2017 album ‘Twin Earth’ with a new, non-album cut, ‘Can’t Comfort’ backed by remixes from Provenance label mates, KAIA and Arrom.

On ‘Can’t Comfort’ Aphir notes: “I feel that a lot of people, young women especially, are taught that sometimes you have to exhaust yourself looking after other people before you're allowed to look after your own needs, and this song is a rejection of that”.

‘Can’t Comfort’ is available via Bandcamp, iTunes & Spotify.

Operating on the hazy peripherals of 'dance' music utilizing the familiar concepts and components of techno, electronica and ambient BUNKR enslaved dust-coated synthesizers, dilapidated drum machines and rusted FX boxes to produce “a brilliantly diverse collection of nine finely-crafted electronic opuses” (Furtherdot.com).

And now, thanks to a bunch of like-minded sonic explorers, we make another journey into the depths of the fabled Initiation Well with eight remixes which seek to uncover the purpose behind this mythical place.

[FSLAB012] Ishome - Confession

Hooray! A long-awaited debut album by Russia-based young girl-artist Ishome.
"Confession" - that's the name, post-everything-tronic - that's the style. She cuts, slices, play, programs and mixes it all together by herself making a soothing mixture of complex broken beats, ambient atmos, quirky pop vocals and ground moving grooves. 
Mirabella Ishome Kiryanova lives here and there from time to time - from South Bounds to Siberia. Being pretty young she's already done a huge job - released on Proton Music US, won a national contest by Russia's one of the biggest web-zines Look At Me "10 Top Young Producers", played on Stereoleto SPb and EXIT fests, was remixed by D/R/U/G/S an many-many more.
She constantly plays live acts across the country BTW and it's pretty amazing how this young artful dodger creates an insane twist all over the dance floor every time she's conducting it.
So in "Confession" we see Ishome in her best. With loads of quotations from different genres and subs she keep a firm paw on her sounding so you could easily know - who's that. Yes, nothing special in this fact but it's quite interesting for a 20-yo girl to have such a strong hand and vibe. 9 tunes - from ambient to old-school driven breakbeat, 2-step-smth, atmo-grime, techno and back.
