This was my contribution for the Disquiet Junto Project 0570: Key Change.
Here’s a copy of my post on the Disquiet Junto 0570 discussion thread:
I don’t think I’ve ever done a key change in any of my projects unless by accident, so thank you for this challenge. I had a lot of fun putting this together. This piece shifts from E minor to D minor and back to E minor. I used NI Playbox and ThePhonoLoop Tape.01 plug-ins within Ableton Live for most of the sounds and effects. AudioThing Noises was used to create the background drone.

20221202 MIDI Piano Variations [disquiet0570]

Months of hearing my kids playing bits of Rush E (Andrew Wrangell) on and off of the piano have inspired a couple MIDI piano pieces.  This second one uses a few different modes and/or keys and is in the style of a duet that has simple beginnings.

Amixo progession programmed with Suggester app. imported to Ableton, altered & adjusted. added bass, trombone, a few other elements. added Fmin 9th motif starring as "the shift". tried to keep it simple for a change. subtle reverb and coloring courtesy of Speakerphone App. Its very nice.

Took a day or 2 to hear that Brian Wilson got ripped off,. but it came out of my heart first, the Bacharach Trombone was totally obligatory and premeditated. 

This was my chance to do that Princelike super pop tune with a bunch of Key changes ala Earth Wind & Fire but you know, my plans, if I have them, rarely make out the brain onto the tape. I start something and it takes off with a life of its own that i have to then see through to the end. Man I really really needed these weekly assignments to get into a more productive workflow and to keep learning new things about music, so thanks Marc and everyone involved in this really cool weekly challenge, a lot of great music here.

Yet another take on plain triadic harmony with a modulating bridge from Gm to Am. 

Drones added as an attempt to purge verbal thought (as I consider it a disturbing side of the mind while producing and consuming music) and also because I'm shy and feel too naked releasing clean tonal material.

Wish I Could Wish (disquiet0570)

For my first participation to the Disquiet Junto Project, I chose the theme of the lullaby because it' s a genre that I am passionate about and that I have already worked on in the past.
The melody I used as a guideline comes from a very old Welsh lullaby called Peis Dinogat (Dinogad's Smock). It appears in a 13th century manuscript but was probably composed some century earlier. The lyrics, which I have deliberately left out in order to turn it into an instrumental piece, tell of a father's exploits on the hunt, perhaps in the mode of lament. Among the list of animals, there is mention of a place, Derwennydd Falls, whose precise location is open to speculation.
To fit the lullaby genre, I have kept the melody in all its beauty and simplicity by repeating it from beginning to end. The use of panning is also there to suggest the pendulum movement.

We're Going to the Fair (disquiet0571)

These are rough drafts of an up and coming album of some new piano music.  The album is tentatively titled "10 Easy Pieces" - and should be coming out end of 2025 or early 2026.
