The Technikast Episode 5

Well here it is. I have been djing since 2002 and always attended the Tidy Weekenders. Had some amazing times but as a dj surely nothing can beat playing at a weekender. I have never been asked until this year when Sam asked me and Alf to play a Lamin8ers set on the Sunday night in the bounce room of what could be the last ever weekender.

I was pretty fucking excited. It got even better when Alfie said I should play it solo because I deserved to get my own set at a weekender and he really isn't a fan of bounce, he only made these Lamin8ers tracks with me because we love working together and basically i made him do them for me, i went to a wonderful charm school.

Anyways... on the night it was fucking brilliant. The crowd were amazing and I had the time of my life. I am so chuffed it went as well as it did and some of the feedback through various new fans status on facebook I have never been happier about a set. Two separate people said it was their set of the weekend and I was blown away by a lads comment that it was the best set he had EVER heard!!! (wow!...... although i have to question, has he been to more than two sets in his life?)

The Lamin8ers @ The Tidy Weekender 29.03.15

To celebrate 10 years since my first ever demo 'Smile' I wanted to do something special. This mix is the first of a few I have planned this year and I wanted to make it EPIC! So its 4 hours long!!! Yep that's right, 4 Hours. By far the longest mix I have ever done.

I am best known for playing Bounce and its the genre I like playing the most. This mix is basically a best of Wain Johnstone bounce from the last 10 years encompassing nothing but tunes I absolutely adore and a stack of my favourite power mixes which you may have heard before but I had to include for nostalgic reasons! 

Don't expect a journey! No no no! This is full on peak time bounce done the Wain Johnstone way!

Its been long overdue for our Bounce mix, most of the tracks on here were made last year and this mix was due to be done last year while they were still exclusive, but complications recording in decent quality meant that its only just been done! lol

Alot of the Tracks we've done on there are with a range of the best producers in Bounce: Tom Berry, Kye Shand, Paul.F, And All the others are favourites of ours from over the last year and popular with the clubbers on the Dancefloor, by some very talented producers such as Riggsy, Dark13, Mr Mister, Andy Caddick and also one of the best up & coming producers in the scene today Mr Charlie Bosh!!  
Theres alot of collabs with these producers on there with some of our favourite Djs:  Strange Dave, Livewire, Dawson,Pez, PSR, Leighton D...

Smile 6 

In 2006 I did my first official demo and for some reason I named it Smile. Because of this demo I got my first proper gigs and managed to spread my name a little. 
Things really took off a year later when i did Smile 2 and released it the week of a Tidy Weekender. I think i posted out nearly 400 copies!
Since then I have done a Smile mix ever year. Its been nearly 18 months since Smile 5 so i figured I better get a move on!

I have tried to make all the demos fast paced and fun. Always sticking to a formula of combining Hard Dance, Bounce and Hard Trance. In particular making sure the mixing is interesting, tight and keeps that pace up! You wont see many 'Cut Mixes' on my demos!

So here it is. Its been months in the planning, collecting tracks, making tracks, sorting the artwork, making an intro, mixing the thing and doing all this while still keeping the 'Smile' feel to the mix.
Hopefully i have done a good job. I have included my favourite tracks from the last year by some of my favourite producers and combined them with my new productions since Smile 5. I had to do something special at the end of the cd to complete the series so I hope you enjoy 'Wains World!'

Smile 6 - Wain Johnstone

Once I decided I wanted to play one final set and have a party with all my fans The Bounce Factory was the obvious choice. Thankfully Jamie and Ed were happy to have me and gave me a cracking set time 12 - 1.

It took me ages to decide what to play. Too many good tracks that I wanted to cram into an hour. These are the ones that I finally decided on. A couple of special bootlegs that I made especially for the set. Hopefully it made it all a bit special.

The crowd were totally amazing. The room was completely rammed and the vibe was fantastic. Fair to say I loved every minute of it. If you were there I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to come and watch me. If you missed out then at least you can enjoy the music now! Thank's to everyone for your support.

A mix I did for clubbers to take and enjoy at the first Ideal Weekender! Full of some of my favourite hard dance tracks that I have been playing in my sets recently.

I have leaned the mix slightly towards the hard house side of things because the Weekenders are the spiritual home of hard house in my eyes!

I have tried to keep it fun and uplifting with the usual 'Johnstone' flavours going on.

Amber D - Hard Tech Hard Trance Mix April 2013 Master

In 2008 i did a promotional mix just for fun called http://soundcloud.com/wain-johnstone/donktagious-wain-johnstone . Full of cheesy, silly fun bounce tracks that you cant take seriously but at the same time make you smile! It became ridiculously popular! I gave away over 100 hard copies and it has been downloaded/played nearly 2000 times.

I followed it up with a sequel called http://soundcloud.com/wain-johnstone/donklicious-wain-johnstone. Again it had the same crazy silly feel to it and was very popular!

Two of the biggest fans of these mixes are Ru & Jamie that run 'We Love Bounce' which I am resident for. They practically begged me to do a third instalment as a promo mix for one of their nights.

I had to scrape the barrel to find tracks that are the right flavour and I needed to do a lot of editing but I managed it and Donktastic was born!

All these cds are just a bit of fun and they are perfect after party material! So disengage brain, grab yourself a big slice of cheese, camp it up and download it now!

Donktastic - Wain Johnstone

Hi folks,

Thanks for visiting. I have been djing since 2002 and playing in clubs since 2006.  I have recently retired from playing in clubs so the only place you will hear my music will be online.

I love hard dance especially the bounce side of things. I am all about high energy and uplifting tunes so if that's your thing then you are in the right place!

I have played for brands such as Frantic, Tidy, Polysexual, AWsum, Contagious, B2T, Nu Religion, Bounce Factory, We Love Bounce, Dirtbox, Sundissential & Wildchild. Holding residencies at Contagious, Bounce & We Love Bounce.

I have been lucky enough to play at some great venues including The Tidy Weekender, Global Gathering, Gatecrasher, SE One, Koko, Scala, The Sanctuary, Escape, Renaissance Rooms & Hidden.

I made my way into the scene by getting recognition for my hugely popular 'Smile' demos. This combined with various other mixes and producing many popular tracks has planted my name firmly in the hard dance scene. I am the driving force and one half of the mighty Lamin8ers, the 8-bit hard dance sensation! Check out the Lamin8ers soundcloud for more info.

Since retiring I have enjoyed sticking together some trance mixes. This is the stuff I love to go clubbing to. Its only for fun so I hope you enjoy them.
