In celebration of Hip Hop's 50th year, we've teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded rap music, mixed by Chris Read. This megamix serves as short form companion to the first two mixtapes from the series covering the years 1979-1987, this time cramming 25 classic tracks into a brief three minute run time.

This time 'round I'm bringing it back to basics with classic hip-hop samples and breaks from the "golden-era" of rap sampling with a few splashes of the unknown in-between: funk, soul, jazz, soundtracks, library joints and drum breaks from all corners of the globe, cut up on the 1's and 2's in one take.

Found this little gem on pipomixes a few years back, no trace of it on Soundcloud, so I thought why not spread it around. This needs to be heard. The supremely talented DJ Shortkut of the Invisbl Skratch Piklz lays down an amazing mix of original tracks reconfigured into the hip-hop tracks that sampled them. 

It's only just occurred to me that subliminal inspiration for the jungle reconstruction/tribute aspect of my Eclectic Sample mixes came in part from this guy. Thanks, Shortkut.
