'Past Midnight' is a contemporary interpretation of retro dance music delivered by Atlanta-based Mister Sweatband through three original tracks. The EP features three distinct club tracks that give hope of never-ending nights dancing in a sweaty room, delivered through rolling basslines, memorable arpeggios, and long pads.

The release is opened by 'Past Midnight' and closed by an alternative version of the track, a Midnight Mix filled with hope and emotion. The Main Mix arrives as a happy definition of Indie Dance: a beautiful visit to the past with the eyes set on the future.

'You' comes up as a clubbier track while giving a remarkable soundtrack feeling, perfectly binding danceability with an old-school happy mood.

Although the name of the last original track could lead to thoughts of a closed sound, 'Locker Room' is the opposite, an ode to Mister Sweatband's retro aesthetics delivered through an outstanding opening of synths and pads, which are more than enough to confirm his capacity as a storyteller.

The latest release from Ziger’s Eat My Hat imprint welcomes Ruben Karapetyan to the label for his debut single. Born in Armenia and now based in California, Ruben has a long history in electronic music. Best known for his DJ Darky alias, the Hollywood resident shared the stage with famous artists like Sasha & Digweed, Sven Vath and Orbital as part of lineups at legendary events such as Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) , Together as One (biggest NY party in America), AgeHa in Tokyo Japan, VNVNC Concert Hall in St. Petersburg and Pravda in Moscow, Russia. Operating under a variety of production monikers, Ruben has remixed The Cure’s ‘Forest’, while his original productions were routinely championed by the underground’s top tastemakers. Following a ten-year hiatus, Ruben made a triumphant return to electronic music last year with a series of the releases via Tash’s Movement Recordings. Backed by remixes from Emi Galvin, Matan Caspi and Stan Kolev, Ruben earned praise and support from the underground’s top tastemakers while enjoying an extended stay in Beatport’s Progressive House charts. Now in a year has seen further projects for Movement and Lowbit Records, Ruben adds Eat My Hat to his resume with ‘Deeper Thoughts/Cry Of Duduk’, alongside a remix from label boss Ziger. 
The release begins with the peak time vibes of ‘Deeper Thoughts’. Smooth and driving throughout, it carries a sleek yet powerful quality from the outset. Gaining momentum across the first act, the piece moves through layers of detailed percussion, alien-like effects and shifting harmonics, as cross-cultural motifs push the narrative into the main break. The emotional mood expands across the centrepiece with transcendent themes playing off gaseous atmospheres, before a gentle shift sets the course for an exhilarating finale. The companion piece ‘Cry Of Duduk’ follows a similar sonic ethos and resonates on an equally impressive level. Remarkably powerful, its muscular groove commands attention, moving through rolling contours and rhythmic pulses, while ethnic fragments and lively percussion add character and bounce to the framework. Sweeping effects initiate the main break, eventually melting down to a reservoir of shape shifting electronics and emotive chord changes, perfectly elevating mood and setting the stage for a mystical final act.
Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Cry Of Duduk’ is Ziger. The Greek artist and Eat My Hat boss has continued to impress across 2021 with key collaborations with Mind Conspiracy and Nosh & SJ, while also remixing Gabriel Filip & Goda Brother and Ric Niels in fine style. Now getting the fall season underway in impressive fashion, Ziger delivers a powerful rendition of ‘Cry Of Duduk’. Electrically charged with tough beats and a tighter take on the groove, it’s pulsating energy beams brightly from the outset. Combining dynamic rhythms with striking chord stabs and commanding percussion makes for an exhilarating first act. As momentum builds, the cross-cultural vocal blankets the framework for a spiritual sound collage, before giving way to a menacing break which spearheads a thunderous finale. A massive remix from Ziger which should be delighting dancefloors all through the fall season. It not only caps the release off on a high note but makes Ruben’s Eat My Hat debut a resounding success. Highly recommended.

Before we shift our focus to our 5-year anniversary proceedings, we have one more treat for you in store. German duo Add-us mark their debut on the label with their latest smash 'Find You'. The duo who has been regulars on some of the world's finest labels with their melodic techno influenced driving productions deliver a classy electronic piece of music with 'Find You' that received two superb remix treatments from Clawz SG & Jurek Riegler. 

Add-us open proceedings with their title track 'Find You' with its expansive synth chords generate a driving rhythm before the atmospheric pads and vocals take over to create a beautiful setting. Combining the best of both worlds, Add-us have come up with something unique and distinctive to make this release extra special, while applying an extra dose of groove and warmth to this incredible tune. 'Find You' stands for a fool proof and state-of-the-art piece of music, which will readily make you, take note and amaze in equal measures.

The first remix of 'Find You' comes courtesy of Clawz SG. A massive entity in his own right, he shows his experience, as the musical development is in full swing. Clawz SG kicks off proceedings with a deep, hypnotic beat which is interspersed with subtle effective percussion. A profound floaty groove and melodic techno influences, turn his rework into an underground anthem with a very soul tangling appeal. The added deep bass gradually eases its way to the breakdown, before unleashing into the rising melodic hook interwoven with the contagious groove for maximum effect. 

The second remix comes courtesy of Berlin maestro Jurek Riegler. His sound is a tough thing to pin down. He is such a unique act in the sense that his emotional creations carry quite a large scope. He is not afraid to explore esoteric or introspective themes and the end result is always a compelling one. Such is the case with his remix of 'Find Me', which carries many of his most loved production hallmarks. From a warm, meaty low end to icy atmospherics and an effects storyboard to get lost in, there is certainly a lot to love. The main break being the high point, with the mood shifting from emotive to ominous with an effortless ease. It's something you rarely see and Jurek pulled off beautifully here. Essential stuff from Jurek.

Add-us debut on ICONYC, with the amazing support from Clawz SG & Jurek Riegler, is a triumphant one. 'Find You' manages to deliver a message of sustained musical relevance in emphatic fashion to warm the soul. Add-us 'Find You' sees a worldwide release on December 3rd 2021 via all well-known digital content providers. Highly recommended.

Astral Records caps off a successful first year by welcoming Arshiyazi and Adoxa to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Iran, Arshiyazi and Adoxa have been deeply entrenched in the world of melodic house and techno for the last two years. Although at the beginning of his production journey, Adoxa has already notched an impressive offering via Songtradr, where his astral techno sounds paired with GeniusP for a stunning seven track showcase. Now adding Astral Records to his resume, Adoxa pairs with Arshiyazi who is on the cusp of his first ever release. Together the duo presents their 'The Host' EP, alongside remixes from Paul Anthonee and My Flower.

Working perfectly within the label's sonic profile are the arcane sounds of 'Your World'. Backed by a warm yet punchy groove and tight rhythms, its fluid drive quickly becomes infectious. Mystical vocal elements paint a compelling narrative as the first takes shape, while wonky synth phrasing and icy atmospherics offset each other nicely. Sitting at the heart of the track is a cavernous interlude where the vocal lands in greater prominence, flowing through a maze of sonic artefacts onwards to a tasteful drop and meditative finale. The companion piece 'Ecorche' finds the duo flexing the electronica side of their studio repertoire. Smooth and rhythmic in all the right ways, indistinct vocal fragments and plush tones blanket an underbelly of broken beats and elastic-like hooks. Building an emotive narrative across the first act, placid pads descend over the framework with a heartfelt glow, perfectly setting stage for an impassioned interlude and goosebump worthy finale.

The lone interpretation of 'Your World' is provided by label AandR Paul Anthonee who returns for his third appearance. The Cyprus based producer has the distinction of delivering the inaugural Astral Records offering earlier this year with the release of his 'A World Beyond' EP. August then saw Paul return to the label with a well-received remix of 'Remedial' by Moodayz and Areeas. Also laying claim to outings courtesy of Beatfreak Recordings, Lost On You, Parquet, Steyoyoke and Suara, Paul now returns to Astral Records with a compelling rendition of 'Your World'. Leaning closer to techno inspired territory, the Cypriot artist carves out a cavernous groove adorned with fiery percussion and electric rhythms. Building tactfully through percussive flurries and tightly wound arps, the vocal narrative eventually emerges, bringing depth, space and emotion, before giving way to a cinematic centrepiece and thunderous conclusion.

The release concludes with My Flower making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Ecorche'. Born out of the Lula Circus project, My Flower first emerged in 2015 with a release via Stem Records, before going on to find a home on Hunter Game's Just This imprint, where he has released four projects across four years with great success. Now bringing his inimitable sound to Astral Records, My Flower rounds out the release with a powerful take on 'Ecorche'. Directing the energy of the original closer to the dance floor, the Italian artist opens up the framework for a greater sense of space while utilizing wavy, shapeshifting arps and fuzzed out sonics to create a narrative which splits time between the meditative and emotive. An inspired remix from My Flower which caps off an impressive debut for Arshiyazi and Adoxa, an artist duo you will certainly be hearing more about in 2022. Highly recommended.
