RELEASE DESCRIPTION

The 34th release on Perspectives Digital showcases the winning entries from the label’s first ever remix competition.  Announced in April 2015, the contest gave hopeful producers a chance to remix the imprint’s most critically acclaimed and best-selling track, 'Outliers' by Cid Inc and label boss Darin Epsilon.  The competition was a huge success receiving well over 250 entries from artists all over the world.  Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic vs. Rick Pier O'Neil were announced as the grand prize winners after an arduous judging process, with Subandrio, SummerMarian, and Solid Stone receiving the runner-up spots. 

The combination of Michael & Levan and Stiven's unique design qualities with Rick's time-tested club sensibilities were just a notch above the rest of the competition.  The compelling story unfolded over eight minutes and ultimately won the judges over.  It didn’t hurt that the remix received a huge response from Beatport's online community either.  The tough rolling grooves, immaculate textures, and poignant themes pushed the sonic envelope higher, while great use of the vocal elements added a classy reference to the original.

Premiere: Jamie Stevens - At The Still Point [Beat & Path]

Following up Cid Inc's Beatport #1 'Abyss' single, Replug Records returns with a brand new EP from Jamie Stevens. The Australian producer has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of his country's most talented and sought after artists he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary electronic music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric (London), Pacha (Buenos Aires), Womb (Tokyo) and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. More recently Jamie's discography has been highlighted by releases on Guy J's Lost & Found and Armadillo imprints, which have lead him back to Replug for his first artist EP entitled 'The Forgotten Dive'.

Spread across three tracks it's the title and showcase piece which gets the journey underway. Commanding kicks and steel drums set the piece in motion, as astral designs and afro rhythms slowly surround the framework. The second act shifts energy further into the subconscious, as the cosmic narrative evolves amidst a haze of wispy atmospherics, percussive clusters and sonic artefacts; ultimately leading to an understated yet charming finale. In the words of the man himself, "Forever obsessed with tribal rhythms, this was a project that went through many incarnations before arriving at this point that traverses the atmosphere of a lost soundtrack and the momentum of an old Tenaglia 12". I spent time on throwing a few curveballs whilst being mindful of not losing focus plus creating a peak that wasn't overbearing."

The EP's second selection 'Creature of Comfort' is more of an esoteric creation. Unique and unpredictable, it showcases a quirkier side of Jamie's studio repertoire as he describes "Stemming from an experimental session one morning in the studio many years ago, this piece, is all about the storytelling of the free-styling lead synth. This is quite different from other pieces I've made in that respect and was a great deal of fun finding all the elements that would support that main character, this serpent-like creature winding its way through the track."

Drawing on a variety of fresh designs and harmonic concepts, the EP is rounded out with ‘Waterlight'. On a backbone of punchy beats comes perfectly contoured bass and a vibrant percussive cadence. Subtle yet poignant, a soft atmospheric glow encases the framework as free-flowing harmonics coruscate elegantly before timely chord changes transfer energy into a dramatic finale, as Jamie describes, "A personal exploration of raw, cyclical elements grounding a somewhat parallax field of sonic layers. I wanted to play with a solid, percussive base behind which I could smear a melancholic backdrop. This piece is all about drama and movement."

With forthcoming music on All Day I Dream, 2018 looks to be an incredible year for Jamie Stevens. ‘The Forgotten Dive' is an interstellar journey that further cements his place as one of the underground's most creative talents.

Jamie Stevens - Creature of Comfort [Replug]

Darin Epsilon's 60th release on Perspectives Digital finds blaktone making a second appearance on the label with "Nebula" and "Pulse".  Based in the port city of Saint Petersburg, Russian DJ and production duo, Roma Rone and Ri9or, have found considerable success with their blaktone moniker and a unique "symbiosis of progressive and techno sounds".  

Returning to Perspectives after the success of "Aurora" in March 2017, "Nebula" is a high-energy affair that hypnotizes with its analog bass and swirling arpeggios.  Building through intelligently emotive chord progressions, the track pauses to reveal a collage of melodic interplay at the stripped-back breakdown, before the dynamic pounding rhythm takes up the mantle again in the later stages.  "UFO Pulse" continues the bass dominance of the first track, partnered with crisp offbeat open and closed hi-hat patterns.  An ethereal arpeggio supplies melodic interest with the track building until a strong bassline progression adds another dimension in the third movement, complemented by a lead-line redolent in LFO effect.  

Jamie Stevens needs little introduction to the underground dance faithful.  An iconic figure across the globe, his mesmerising DJ sets at Tokyo's Womb and London's Fabric have been coupled with an innovative production style.  Jamie's work has seen him break new boundaries with his unrivaled technique and attention to detail.  A regular on high-profile imprints such as Bedrock, microCastle, Replug, and Crossfrontier Audio, he returns to Perspectives in typically impressive fashion. "Nebula" is taken in a stunning new direction with a simple groove and clave percussion providing the foundation for ethereal new melodic sequences to coruscate across seven minutes.  Beautifully crafted, counterpoint melodies criss-cross with evolving and mutating delays, supplying interest before the rousing arpeggios from the original explode in the second half.

Working from their studio on the UK south coast, Collective States (formerly Mongo) comprise of Melodic Techno producers and label managers, Dan Reid and Gary Bennetton.  With a wealth of experience in dance music, Collective States' nascent production career has seen the duo's profile rise in a steep upwards trajectory.  Hitting the Beatport top 20 with "Krypton" on James Zabiela’s Born Electric, their following releases quickly found their way onto the playlists of Pete Tong, Carl Cox, John Digweed, and Alan Fitzpatrick, among several others.  A guest mix for Digweed's "Transitions" show further cemented an incredible year for the pair.  Debuting on Perspectives Digital, Collective Sounds immediately excite with infectious groove and intricate percussion that forms the framework for their "UFO Pulse" remix.  Using the rasping bassline sequence of the original to pulsating effect, a sublime array of rich strings supplies an emotive counterpoint melody that fully reveals itself at the midpoint breakdown.  A seismic kick enters the fray as percussive intent builds once more; the second half bearing all the hallmarks of a huge dancefloor hit that's sure to be played across the globe in summer 2018 and beyond.
