Following on from 2019’s Head Remixes package which including reinterpretations from The Micronauts lauded Head Control Body Control LP, The French producer extraordinaire unleashed four brand new mixes on the Body Remixes collection.  

A French electronic music pioneer with more than 20 years’ experience, Monier formed the band Discotique with Patrick Vidal who produced the first EP on France’s first ever techno label, Rave Age Records. A founding member of eDEN – the legendary collective, first French fanzine dedicated to house and techno and inspiration for Mia Hansen-Løve’s recent feature film of the same name – Monier, started The Micronauts in 1995, initially alongside fellow producer George Issakidis, before it became a solo project in 2000. 

2018 saw the release of Head Control Body Control, The Micronauts’ third album, and the first for more than a decade since 2007’s Damaging Consent. Head Remixes followed in 2019 – a four-track remix EP with contributions from leading electronic artists Popof, VONDA7, S3A and Nomenklatür – and now the release cycle is completed with the release of Body Remixes: a four track EP with new versions of album tracks from The Populists, Moisees, Jeneral Kai and Ark. 

Kicking off the package is a remix from The Populists, the solo project of French producer Yan Wagner, who transforms Polymorphous Pervert – the video for which picked up nominations at both the Clubbing TV and Berlin Music Video Awards – into a seething, acid-laden cut; searingly visceral and yet with a melodic lightness of touch that takes it to another level entirely. Also taking on Polymorphous Pervert, Moisees – who heads up the Mexico City-based Duro imprint – goes even darker with his interpretation, delivering a unique disco-acid-techno hybrid that makes a deep and lasting impression. 

Kuala Lumpur based artist Jeneral Kai is next up with his remix of Dancizer, a wonderfully unpredictable, progressive-influenced epic with broken beats, huge, emotional washes and heavily reverbed swells combining for a deeply involving

Premiere: The Micronauts - Polymorphous Pervert (The Populists Remix) [Micronautics]

Gourmandisque launches its first release « GMD 001 » composed by Doublure, co-founder of the collective. With these 4 impetuous tracks, the EP revisits the universe of italo disco and dance music of the 80’s and 90’s, wavering between mythical synth sounds and powerful basslines.

By mixing italo disco and new wave, Vertical Way is a breath of fresh air that lifts us towards the heavens by aerial and scintillating pads as well as a soft and progressive melody. Its synths overlays and graded basses produce a contemporary and harmonious dynamic.

UK based record label Comma Traxx unveils a new digital only side project ‘Border Recordings’. Exploring the sounds that are moving through out the underground, one country at a time. First up on the imprint, the label is staying close to home with Unito, a compilation of various artists based in the United Kingdom.  Thirteen mixed musical background producers that have come together to tell a story; aiming to push the genres we often hear on the dance floor and expand them into new territories allowing for a release that aims to open up new possibilities for the styles of music we are now so familiar with.
One thing’s for certain, with this level of talent on board, there’s something here for everyone.

PREMIERE #972 | Boulderhead - Party Numbers (Chugger Mix) [Border Recordings] 2020

“Once upon a time, long ago, there lived at Treva, a wonderful old lady deeply skilled in necromancy. Her charms, spells, and dark incantations made her the terror of the neighbourhood.
Arriving at the church stile, they used to rest the corpse, and there stood the hare, which, as soon as the clergyman began, "I am the resurrection and the life," uttered a diabolical howl then the corpse would change into a black, unshaped creature, and disappeared.”

Starting off the EP is RFX, with a groovy mystical disco pearl of the faraway desert.
Second, we have a rework from Native Red of the infamous track that you know to sing but probably don’t remember where you heard it.
For the second edit from Native Red, we have a dark cinematic banger for some spooky vibe.
And last but not least, a very rare psychedelic gem RFX has dug up which closes the EP in with a rite of passage.

"Danger & Love in Paradise" is an amalgamation of the British label Zone Focus' cultural fascinations. Inspired by the likes of Vice City, Drive and Giorgio Moroder, for their annual themed compilation project, they sought out artists that create and craft neo-nostalgic sounds. A retro musical direction drove the selection process, pulling tracks from Italo Disco and Indie Dance genres. Each of the twelve hand-picked artists added a distinctive sonic uniqueness to the album. Cosmic, groovy, and melodic club-ready works, all designed to timewarp the aural sense. Among the artists invited to the compilation, some personal favourites of ours: Vanity Project, Alex Aguayo, Hanzo & Yaman (SXDNS065), and Fabio Me Llaman Soltero (SXDNS187).

The track we chose to premiere, by Alex Aguayo, is an energetic and vibrant Italo/Cosmic Disco-influenced masterpiece. "Don't Let Go" is one of those tunes that possess an aura so vivid and frantic that it is kind of forbidden to listen to it without delivering yourself to dance. Even alone in your living room or balcony: Just do it!

Akin to previous releases, proceeds from this compilation will be donated to a charitable cause, specifically the WHO coronavirus relief fund. The contributions will go towards helping doctors and medical staff across the world, assisting them in battling the pandemic.
