Washington DC-based Lurid Music welcomes Belgian producer YNV for his debut album entitled “Golden Hour Ritual” that showcases his entrancing blend of avant exotica, Middle Eastern mysticism and cabaret electronica.

YNV was born in Brussels in 1979 and moved to California in 2013. He has so far released tracks on Invisible Inc and Emotional Response. Along with his upcoming debut album on Lurid Music, he has a single ready to be released on Neubau. He is a video artist and music curator for the Vague Terrain nights in San Francisco. In his music, as with his videos, he exploits the liminal space between our most disparate emotional states and the tenuous thread that binds our inner world to reality at its face value. Carrying the torch of his Euro roots, you hear the influence of his homeland with some California sunshine and a palm tree thrown in for good measure.

His LP for Lurid Music features nine original tracks of a brooding cinematic nature, transporting you to the sheltering courtyard shade of a desert riad where every movement seems as theatrically measured and eccentrically calculated as anything Tuxedomoon, The Residents or Dead Can Dance ever produced. The LP closes with a slow acid trance remix from Anatolian Weapons.

After the reinterpretation of "Pacific Reef" by Malouane, it is the turn of the co-founder of Abstrack Records to contribute to the series of remixes "Extra Twist" of Flegon. On his Chinese Lesson Mix, Vidock takes "Intruder on the Loose" and takes us to a Far East rave where gated vocals and skat are still socially accepted, for our greatest pleasure.

Exclusive: Ponty Mython - Onimano X991

It's been a moment since Ponty Mython, Alex Pletnev's anagram alias and one of the many monikers the artist calls his own, drops his first full EP, Onimano X991, after having taken some time off, at least from producing more housier music. According to the artist, he's dedicated himself to computer games, where he found new inspiration in the earlier Need for Speed series, invested into crypto currencies and shaved his beard off. Actually Alex has become an ordinary human being over the past months before joining the electronic music scene again for his EP on Not An Animal Records. Before the release of it in a few days, the artist speaks about the scene in and around Opium Club in Vilnius, that he took things way too serious a few years back, how a bar saved his life and of course the EP itself.

Every track has its own spirit, in a kind of a 90s journey way.
The compilation is a fascinating mixture of weird cosmic and slow goa sequences to more emotional places with powerful bassdriven downtempo techno and slightly trance influenced anthems as well as distinctive tribal acid easiness with melancholic pads and epic melodies. Furthermore it involves faster loaded minimal hypnotic synth sounds and dark UK-House with a big-beat touch to it. Another sonic experiment for your listening curiosity, Ab Und Zu drifts the liminal void between brain stimulating atmospherics and club-centric resonance. Take a kaleidoscopic trip through the off-kilter, composite sounds of London-born label newcomer Midnight Manoeuvres.

Titular track Ab Und Zu combines metallic SFX, gyrating melodies and some choice vocal cuts in a psych-tinged techno merger, while Moored strips the tempo back to chuggier pastures reminiscent of early tinkerings in trip hop and breakbeat. Then rounding out the original set, Spincycle brings a darkly satisfying arrangement of aqueous textures and hardened drones - the Autechre-esque flourish to your tumble down the rabbit hole.

Stepping through on the re-fix, Control Freak’s Customer Service offers an accelerated, dubbed out and glitched up interpretation of Ab Und Zu, complete with arpeggios and wobbles dialled up to max.

The final track of the EP - and a Bandcamp exclusive - reimagines Brownstone’s iconic R&B anthem If You Love Me, introducing jaunty drum work and weighted bass to the track's soulful, heartfelt lyrics; a move inspired by the genre-bending label and club night Autonomic, founded by dBridge and Instra:mental.

What a band name! Does the contraction of “polyamory” and “armory” say anything about the duo formed of famed producer Michael J Collins and singer Ashley Moore? We didn’t dig the issue further but focused on what we have here. No newcomer, Michael J Collins is some sort of a genius hermit, who produced a number of weird house efforts on labels such as Wolf + Lamb, My Favorite Robot or Apersonal Music, to name a few. His tunes even landed on the Fabric series. But Michael much prefers the shadier underground, and launched his own label FilthyBroke Recordings releasing leftfield instrumental hip hop and pop since 2014. Together with Ashley Moore under Polyarmory they push the bounderies of electronica meets the dancefloor. After of 40 years of dance music history, we wondered if there was yet anything new to bri? These two provide an answer right here. Go figure if this house, electronica, trap, bass or something in between or above! Polyarmory brings a fresh transcendental interpretation of dance music.

To complete the pack with exquisite remixes, Amarcord and Jamie Paton have been invited to join the effort.

Amarcord is a musician, DJ and Live Performer also active in the experimental music circuit.

With a very diverse background that ranges from Krautrock and Ambient to New Wave, Disco and Techno, Amarcord's productions are truly original and unpredictable choices that went as far as having him be one of the to release music on Laurent Garnier’s secret label Cod3 QR, or featured on record labels such as Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant, Watergate (for the compilation curated by Who Made Who), Ombra International and Aeon and many more. He takes 'Dream Back To Sleep' further reaching the quintessence of what the Special place label's goal is about, a shamanic and cosmic take on dance music.

Jamie Paton, is one half of Cage & Aviary and considers himself part man, part machine, part cockatiel. He's a self-described DJ, a one-finger keyboardist, and a pot-tickler. Having put out releases to acclaim on the ltd editions that are Dissident Distribution, Cage & Aviary have since spread their wings with releases on DFA, Tiny Sticks, and Astro Lab. For his part, Jamie Paton brings 'Like Flies To Honey' into some form of dubby abstract land of sounds.

Granite Mask lands on Urban Legend Records with his new EP 'Before the Storm'. The EP was created through the heavy and dark days of the COVID -19 pandemic. Making this EP became a way of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel during these bleak times, a coping mechanism, a vehicle for creativity and reconnection with the self.
At the core of this work is the idea of focusing on the things we are passionate about and adapting to difficult situations.
The EP consists of 4 highly energetic and edgy tracks with industrial and lo-fi textures, broken rhythms and teasing synth lines. The result illustrates the contrast between the struggle of the external conditions and the internal peace generated by the music and artistic expression.
