Duro is honored to present the birth of the “Baba” brotherhood. During the last pandemic year, Rina traveled from Tel Aviv to Portugal, where he met Switchdance. After some trips around the beautiful city of Lisbon, plates and plates of hummus and samosa, a visit to pick up raspberries at a field that used to be a medicinal cannabis farm and lots of hours in Switchdance's studio, 'Baba Music Vol. 1' was alive.
This eclectic EP consist of two original mixes consummating the brotherhood with an embellishment by Jakarta's master Jonathan Kusuma who came up with two versions of "Give Way".  Our pick here fells second version where Kusuma brings up a futuristic and dystopian dub masterpiece, with distorted bass lines, shady vocals and liquid percussion.

Following on from this summer’s technoid dystopia double-drop by Mushrooms Project, we’ve assembled a team of sun enchanters to disassemble and sprinkle some of their secret dust on the original tracks. This is the first in a two-part release covering a breadth of musical styles, personalities and sunrise/sunset moments, with love from the ensemble to your USB.

First up is Boy’Shorts, sunglasses on, emerging into daylight with a head shaking 7am house stomper. It’s that rollercoaster acid house sensation with a spoonful of morning nectar, vitamin D for the ears, and your eyes rattling between them. That’s Boy’Shorts with their accelerated take on Sun Up, opening the first part of our remix project.

Middle section is provided by an elusive outfit called The.Deal. They approach Sun Up from a horizontal perspective, stripping back the layers of pads and machinery to reveal something else entirely. Like a magic ruse you’re presented with successive illusions, zeroing in on sub bass, percussions and wildly oscillating, auto detuned aural malfunction - until midway through, a strange sensation like the ground disappearing beneath you. A work of art on its own wavelength, coursing a chart to its personal planet.

Lastly is Sibson’s Still Dark dub of Sun Up, which takes the original parts and throws a host of acoustic elements and melodies into the mix. The prime addition is a second-hand marimba found by the Landswehr canal in Berlin’s Neukölln district, one languorous pandemic Sunday afternoon - the day after having a dream about a sacred marimba that lay just out of reach. Birds chirp atop the hiss of machines and rattling acid vibrations, shakers lead the way to a hilltop from a dream, where the first rays of light glint over the horizon in perpetuity.

Strictly digital, strictly sunrise. Good times are still coming ;)

Half of the duo Random Atlas and founder of the label ODD Pleasures; Ducati Flux AKA Max Ferrer is a chilean multi instrumentalist, producer, mixing engineer and DJ based in Berlin. 

From an early age, he has searched in music and sound design for a collision between rock and electronic music, playing in several bands, producing for different projects and soundtracks for movies. He has released his music on labels such as Ombra INTL, Hard Fist, ODD Pleasures, Belly Dance Services, just to name a few.

Counterterraism Guest Mix 207: Ducati Flux

This mix comes on the back of a conflict which although relatively recent and ongoing has displaced an estimated 2.3 million people. That figure is rising by the hour. 

As such all the tracks from this mix come from the WhyPeopleWar compilation in conjunction with WhyPeopleDance and Ledotmat. 

So far the collection has raised 4,500 Euros which has been donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Artists, musicians, mastering engineers, And all the other behind the scenes folk have all got together to put their heart and soul into this project. Over a hundred artists and tracks have been put together in order to raise as much money as possible for the fastest growing humanitarian crisis in recent memory.

Representing the sound of decadent Lisbon dance party Comandante, [COM001] PÔT-POT is three deconstructions by Sibson that channel 5-piece motorik group pôt-pot’s circular kraut mentality into thumping techno, prog and chugging dancefloor numbers.

COM001 is 20 copies only, double sided 12” hand-stamped white label featuring ‘NO FRIENDS‘ and ‘WARSAW 480KM‘, pressed in Lisbon. 'A4' is a digi-only track /// all three are available for digital download + vinyl SOLD OUT.

“No Friends mixes the band’s psychedelic guitar gymnastics with pumping progressive house. Buzzing, fizzing electronics cutting a rug with drones and chopped up fuzzboxed riffs. Warsaw turns into something harder and darker. Jacking, but more techno-edged. Grounded by a growling bass-line, the “rock” now reduced to percussive ringing and serrated siren-like effects. A4 is slower, sinister, sort of industrial, powered by a steam-punk piston pulse. The singer is shredded. The 6-string noise shaken, phased and filtered. Collaged beats get a Balearic indie-rock / dance crossover go-go-not-go-go groove thing going.”

The 5-piece motorik machine that is PÔT-POT first came into my orbit one night at Arroz Estúdios, where we throw the all-nite pleasure machine outings. Bass player Joe, a fellow Leodisian, introduced me to Mark aka mr. pôt-pot, and we spoke lucidly about Can, kraut, and the EP his band had just finished recording, 'Ode to A' - four tracks centered around 'A' single note.

That conversation ended with a firm handshake and a solid commitment that Mark would send over some stems. Some weeks later, I got the parts for 'A4', which became the first remix in a year-long odyssey that fulfilled the basic criteria of what was to become Comandante: an unsteady union between the thrashing tones of rough, ready garage + the dizzying heights of the discotek.

Four raging warehouse parties and three remixes later, COM001 appears; a harmonium drone runs through on stuck keys, spiritual and mourning, rotating synthetic b-line, garage chug, sunglasses at night, bleary-eyed repetition for oscillating dancefloors.

Three deep / hypnotic club burners, calling techno, kraut, prog + motorik sleaze, for when your usual stuff don’t hit the s<pôt>.

A special thanks to Mark, Elaine, Joe, Ollie and Sara of pôt-pot for their swirling take on experimental guitar music, for their late-nite show at Comandante back in September, and for giving free reign to deconstruct their stems into sweet, decadent submission.
