Downtempo

The second loft party mix in the beat series recorded live from Beatfood in Leeds.  Recorded on the RANE 2016 rotary mixer.  It was recorded on the day Nelson Mandela passed and it is dedicated to him.  

It's such a pleasure to play for people who are happy to go with whatever you want to throw at them.  We are trying to honour the loft party legacy while giving our own take on things - no limitations and release your inhibitions.  At Beatfood we all start the evening with food and eat together communally.  Tristan Da Cunha lays the vibes down perfectly for this section of the night usually.  Then we slowly crank it up into a party.  This was the last ever time we could use the Munro House arts space as it is now being developed into studios.  We will miss it for sure, such special times there.

I do feel we tend to take dance music so seriously.  Surely it was fun in the beginning?  This mix is a release for me to play whatever I feel like and let loose. I reckon it would go down a storm at your festive party, I dare them not to dance!

She has played a few parties in London, Amsterdam, Italy and a couple of Electric Circus boat parties in Manchester and has been doing her own monthly radio show on www.deepvibes.co.uk for about 2.5 years, but her main vibe is just playing music she loves, new and old.

WIKAN - INVOCATIONS III

One time proprietor of the infamous Atlas Records shop in Soho, London over a decade ago, Pete Herbert has been a purveyor of the most fine left of centre sounds for many a year. His absurdly prolific production work with Phil Mison as Reverso 68, with Baby G as LSB,  with Tim Paris of Its a Fine Line as Challenge and Dicky Trisco as Disco Deviance has seen his productions vary in style but never in quality. He co-runs label MAXI DISCS, has regular show Music for Swimming Pools and plays black discs all over the world...

This weekend Pete climbs aboard the Sancho Panza Boa Boa Boat party (http://bit.ly/1OM5eeu) on the Thames as Disco Deviance with Dicky Trisco. Feathers, Funktion One and Frolicking. With this in mind we asked him to take Reverso68 as a starting point and go from there for his R$N mix.

To welcome in the new year, № 32 has been produced by la Decadanse (@la-decadanse-1), the latest music project from Laurent Pastor (@lau) and Marc Lapeyre (@fkclub). 

After releases and remixes in 2015 on Astro Lab Recordings and Days of Being Wild, they are now busy working on a new Mini LP, due for release later this year.

This was my first time playing on the bus although I've shared many euphoric moments at Robot Heart in previous Burning Man adventures. Nothing else really compares to playing for friends and strangers all unified by love of music in the middle of the playa on a cool desert night. It's truly hard to describe in words the magnificent sensory experience it is to be there. It feels like the epicenter of love, creativity, spirituality and uninhibited self-expression... all rolled up with the best soundtrack and visuals you've ever seen.

The undisputed talent of Miami-based Greg Beato graced its way to two of the most unique souls in electronic music. Both Ron Morelli (L.I.E.S.) and FunkinEven (Apron Records) signed his distinctive, tripped out dancefloor material that majestically sits in a class of its own. As a DJ, Beato is spinning into prosperous future as well, playing at the worlds clubs and festivals alike. His Podcast is a live recording from a night in Cologne somewhere late 2015 and has the signature Beato vibe all over it.

The first ever mix from the beat loft parties.  

beat is a new experience created by Ralph Lawson & Tom Van Zeller - fusing food and music in one space. bespoke one off venues turned into a bar, restaurant and 
loft party for one or two nights only.  

the first beat was scheduled for march 23rd and sold out very quickly so we added an extra date on march 22nd which also sold out. this mix was recorded live from one of those events.  

I love playing in clubs but in a loft party space the freedom opens up for the dj to play more diverse sounds and people can get down and totally lose themselves in the music in a magical environment.

I don't want to recreate the past and just play old music.  I want to create my own version of the long running loft tradition that started way back with David Mancuso in New York. I also don't take the name in vain.  It is about creating a space and a vibe so people feel like they are entering your house and everyone is open to letting the music take control.  I played a few classics but also there is a lot of new music in the mix and many edits.  special thanks to DJ Butcher for supplying so many great Chopshop edits.   

the first beat events went exactly as we had hoped, they have inspired us to continue the concept.  we'd love you to get involved if this is where your heart is and come and make the next beat events just as good.
