Tiny Peaceful Doves flutter across in front of the microphones.

A light morning breeze blows as the day heats up.

At a lake surrounded by forest, early in the morning I set up and recorded the birds just waking up and beginning to sing.  Had to have the recording gain set to Max for this recording, but I think it is nice how it pulls out the tiny reverb that comes from the birds songs and calls.    Patvinsuo National Park Finland.  Recorded on the 22nd of May 2018 at 3.21am.  MKH8020, Sound Devices MixPre, Marantz PMD661.  Recording 3093.

A sunny morning in the hill evergreen forests of Thung Yai West Wildlife Sanctuary part of Thailand's western forest complex. 

Species heard in the sample include: Bar-backed Partridge, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Lesser Yellownape, Bay Woodpecker, Great Barbet, Blue-throated Barbet, Buff-breasted Babbler, Brown-cheeked Fulvetta,  White-throated Bulbul & White-handed Gibbon.

Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park is a vast area of lowland rainforest in near the tip of Cape York in the far north of Australia.  The biodiversity here is  more akin with the lowland forests of New Guinea, and for a significant number of species this area is the southern limit of their distribution. In this sample you can hear the loud whistles of a Magnificent Riflebird and the squawks of Eclectus Parrots, along with many other species in the background.

181223 Unkown Fish - Haikou Harbour

April 20, 2019. The recording begins at 7.37 in the morning. I really like diversity of birds in Matsalu but recording is somewhat difficult because there are no natural obstacles (thick forest or mountains) to preventing noise from the roads. It's not technically pure clean recording. It's a sketch, the groundwork, note in my audio notebook.

A walk through the landscape of Matsalu National Park, Estonia.

This is a sample from the album 'Cape York: Melaleuca Swamp', recorded on the the edge of a remote melaleuca (paperbark) swamp in Cape York, far northern Australia. The microphones were placed near the edge of the wetland, adjacent to dry tropical woodland and with an open lilypad-covered lagoon in the background.  Throughout the album there is a nice natural mix of early morning sounds from wetland and woodland species in this unique landscape.

New Guinea is home to vast areas of undisturbed lowland rainforests and an abundance of unique flora and fauna. This sample was recorded in an area of primary forest in the Bird's Head Peninsula in West Papua.

In the hill rainforests of north-eastern Sabah, tiny Bornean Treehole Frogs (Metaphrynella sundana) call to create a magical nocturnal soundscape.

In order to make their calls as loud as possible, males of this species adjust the frequency of their 'toop' call to match the natural resonance of the small water-filled treehole they live inside. Often a number of males can be heard calling from different sized holes in the same area, creating a delightful soundscape of 'toop' notes at various pitches.

Night Soundscape - Tawau Hills

During an unattended nocturnal recording session in a patch of old-growth forest a rain and thunder weather passed over during late evening hours. Birds stopped singing except for a Common Chiffchaff which actually seemed triggered by the rain and thunder.
