'Mallee Dawn' is a 26 minute album comprising four recordings made early morning in Victoria's Wyperfeld National Park. This extensive reserve protects significant areas of mallee and dry woodland and is a great place to observe native birds and other wildlife.

The coastal forests of northern NSW are rich in birdlife. This sample was recorded in an area of mixed heath and woodland along the coast north of Coff's Harbour.  

Species on this recording include: Scarlet, Yellow-faced and White-throated Honeyeaters, Little Wattlebird, Noisy Friarbird, Olive-backed Oriole, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, White-browed Scrubwren, Channel-billed Cuckoo, Pheasant Coucal, Wonga Pigeon

Recorded in pinsapo (Spanish fir) forest in the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, near Ronda Spain.  The birdlife was particularly active this cool spring morning, with many species moving around close by the microphones. You can here some very light rain blow in during the second half of this sample.

Bird species recorded on this track include Tawny Owl, Eurasian Jay, Common Wood Pigeon, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Crested Tit, European Robin, Short-toed Treecreeper, Eurasian Siskin, Chaffinch, Hawfinch and  Red Crossbill.

Recorded just outside of a Village in Southern Poland, a variety of birds singing and chirruping, with the distant sound of aircraft in the background. 
The occasional sound of a woodpecker can be heard, as well as the occasional insect. In the forest there was a space for people to pray, - a small church and a man-made waterfall, and also I was told that there was once a battle close-by. 
This was recorded in April 2016 and one particular memory of this time of spring was watching the caddisfly larvae navigating their way around a small stream.

The lush rainforest was filled with sounds of birds  including  Superb & Wompoo Fruit-Doves, Brown Cuckoo-Dove, Golden Whistler, Eastern Whipbird, Spotted Catbird, Bower's Shrikethrush, Brown Gerygone, Grey-headed Robin, Double-eyed Fig Parrot, Bridled & Lewin's Honeyeaters and more....

A rich spring dawn chorus in Round HIll Nature Reserve, south west New South Wales.  This reserve protects a significant area of mallee habitat where a number of threatened species can be found. 

Dozens of birds are calling in this recording including Crested Bellbird, Grey Shrikethrush, Rufous Whistler, White-fronted & White-eared Honeyeaters, Splendid Fairywren, Southern Scrub-robin, Peaceful Dove, Weebill, Emu & more...!

In Queensland's wet season, the frog choruses can be deafening.  In this cut several species can be heard including Litoria rubella, Litoria infrafrenata, Limnodynastes convexiusculus & the dreaded Bufo marinus (Cane Toad) which despite being an unwelcome invasive species, has a nice deep rolling call! A multitude of crickets and other insects add texture to this intense soundscape.
