The tiger is an indicator species – its presence, abundance, density and even gender diversity are signs of a healthy forest, and consequently, the relationship of humans with the wild.

These are some of the sounds of the jungle I have recorded using the Zoom H1N during my safaris at the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve & the Pench National Park - a microcosm of tigers - in Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh, India. These forests are dry deciduous forest, implying the forest receives rain only in the monsoons, and remains dry for the rest of the year – which spells water scarcity. The installation of solar pumps, water holes, and bunds at crucial points not only ensures decentralization, but also keeps the lakes perennial, while also helping in retention of rainwater.

From the earliest I can recall I’ve always had an affinity to nature, an emotional connect with quiet mornings, the chirping of birds, the candid behaviour of animals when they don’t realise a human is watching, the clouds rolling over the hills, gushing streams - I can ramble on. 

So I took a camera and some mics and decided to record everything I saw and every sound I heard. I have put my photos and videos together on my website (https://wildart.works/) and now I am putting together the audio I have recorded from these trips into the wilderness. 

These are an effort to portray ‘that feeling’, you know, when you watch twilight in the jungle, the sense of isolation when you have a beach to yourself, the sound of a swift river over some rocks, the roar of a waterfall - they are all about telling ‘that’ story.
