This one could dwell in the complete opposite end of the spectrum from my last mix (Gunpoint Medicine).

The objective here was to gather some of the more ‘dreamy’’ cuts in my collection - tracks that made me think of relaxation and feeling carefree, floating…maybe with a cocktail in one hand, chillin on a hammock while staring/listening to the ocean waves crashing against the rocks as the sun goes down.  Knowing that breeze will return.  I wanted to picture myself as far away as possible from the complete and utter toxicity of this matrix we are all unfortunately plugged into.

if your imagination allows it and you are looking to drift away from the chaos to your dream sanctuary, this mix is for you.

A Brief History: Nick Warren & Nick ‘Tripswitch’ Brennan 

The two Nicks first connected in 2006, when Warren contacted Brennan to license the Tripswitch track ‘Roll Your Own’ for his Global Underground ‘GU30 Paris’ compilation, and subsequently took a second track ‘Strange Parallels’ which the latter had been writing for his 2nd Tripswitch album ‘Geometry’. 

Following the incredible success of the GU compilation, the pair kept in contact and over time became good friends, with Warren becoming something of a mentor to Brennan, particularly when the latter launched his first label Section Records and then started to broaden his productions from chillout into progressive house. Who better to ask advice than the Godfather! 

In 2011 Warren remixed the Tripswitch track ‘Collider’ for Section, and then included it in his ‘Balance 018’ comp. In 2013, Warren again nabbed two new Tripswitch tracks – ‘Still Seas’ and ‘Sick Teckers’ – for his Renaissance ‘The Masters Series: Part 18’ comp, and the same year the pair DJ’d back-to-back at the exclusive Kimberley Festival. 

With their musical tastes so aligned going right back to the 1980’s, it was inevitable that given the right opportunity the two would eventually collaborate in the studio, and in 2016 just such an opportunity arose with the first release on Warren’s new The Soundgarden label, where they joined forces to remix the Joey Fehrenbach track ‘Wolves’. 

The studio chemistry worked like a dream and the pair turned in a belting, swirling, nu-disco remix that complemented the leftfield-electro original perfectly and, soon after, the two Nicks were planning their next outing, which came in the form of their first original production together – ‘Savannah’. 

Originally released in a slowed down form on Hernan Cattaneo’s ‘Balance presents Sudbeat’ compilation, it was then given the Sudbeat single release treatment at the original tempo, along with remixes from Guy Mantzur and Mariano Mellino.  ‘Savannah’ went on to become one of the hottest progressive releases of 2017.

When Brennan launched his new onedotsixtwo imprint in summer 2017, with its focus on releasing the highest quality progressive house music, this was the perfect excuse for another set of collaborative studio sessions, and ‘Voight Kampff’ (ODST0003) is the dazzling result. 

With another collab already underway and a fifth in the pipeline for later in the year, this is an alchemic production partnership that plays to the strengths of both artists and is set to bear delicious fruit for a long time to come.

A couple weeks ago we had the privilege to take over the Babylon dome at burning seed on the Saturday night after the man burned

Nick Warren became one of the first so-called “superstar DJs” in the mid-to-late ’90s, holding down a high-profile residency at Cream in England, touring around the world, and appearing on several DJ mix albums before they became commonplace. Though he spun an eclectic array of dance styles in the late ’80s and early ’90s, he eventually championed the late-’90s trance sound of labels like Hooj Choons and joined the ranks of other superstar DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, and Tall Paul.

Before leading a jet-set lifestyle, Warren moved to Bristol in the 1980s after having just turned 20. By the early ’90s, he was one of the city’s top DJs, spinning upstairs at Vision, one of the city’s first super-clubs. At the time, Warren spun everything from dub and hip-hop to house, which became his preferred style.

When fellow Bristol artists Massive Attack left to tour America in the wake of their early success, they invited Warren to accompany them on tour as their official DJ, a testament to his turntable skills as well as his reputation at the time. Eventually, Warren began a massively successful stint as the resident DJ at Cream in Liverpool.

The years that followed saw Nick Warren enjoy a whirlwind of success. Through a combination of providing acclaimed mixes for Mixmag, DMC, and the hugely successful Global Underground series, and releasing a string of club-smashing solo singles, Warren found himself catapulted into the electronic and house big leagues; and, by continuing to release acclaimed albums, singles, and remixes with his Way Out West partner-in-crime, Jody Wisternoff, and remixing tracks for the likes of Lana Del Rey, he firmly established himself as a truly multi-faceted producer of top-quality dance music.

Having already graced the decks at every self-respecting super-club on the planet and made his name as a superstar DJ, the late Noughties saw Warren turn his hand to the business side of the music industry. Now, as the A&R of Bristol-based Hope Recordings, he spends his time seeking to hone and promote the next generation of club-smashing DJ and production talent; and, through the expansion of his label The Soundgarden into a globe-straddling international events and entertainment brand, set in stone his already firmly-established reputation as a giant of electronic, techno, and house music.

With a flurry of new releases, further The Soundgarden live events from Ibiza to Argentina, and the highly anticipated Way Out West ‘Tuesday Maybe’ tour already in the diary for 2018, Nick Warren is showing no signs of slowing down; and, if the continued devotion of his ever-expanding fan-base is anything to go by, that’s a decision that will be welcomed with open arms by dance music lovers the world over.

Last month (april) we played our first ever fully live set at Wildwood's great event "wild people".

Huge thanks to the guys for having us as their #91 podcast!

"This week we are honoured to showcase two very good friends of ours, the extremely talented GMJ & Matter. This is the recording of their live set from our most recent event, Wild People."

GMJ (Gavin Martin) & Matter (Matty Doyle) joined forces in late 2015, inspired initially through an interview Matter penned for PHW that showed his understanding of & passion for sound & its connectedness to the bigger picture of life as a whole. A triggered recognition & magnetism for the twos shared perspectives & love for deep atmospheric music led to the formation of the GMJ & Matter collaboration.

Already drawn by a respect for each others unique sound, their meeting point soon saw them in the studio crafting the acclaimed “Superposition ep” for Proton music, which was debuted at 2016 Rainbow Serpent Festival & released afterwards to big success, supported by industry heavyweights including Hernan Cattaneo & Cid Inc. This was followed by the “Osmosis / 11 moons” EP in 2017 which further highlighted the pairs distinct & accomplished sound.

A natural synergy & seamless understanding has seen works flow ever since, including remixes for Pete K & Andre Sobota on Proton Music, the huge of success of their original track “Earthless” on the mighty Anjunadeep, remixing each others work for Particles & PHW elements, a remix for Funkform on Aussie juggernaut Open Records, & many more exciting releases soon to be unveiled.

With constant inspiration raising the heights in reflection, the future is to the stars!

Karl Pilbrow's passion and appreciation for music has been a lifelong affair. Originally coming from New Zealand, he moved to Melbourne in early 2012. 

  In the years following Karl began to experience the outdoor festival culture the city is renowned for, he could not help but fall in love with electronic music. This new-found affection took him to all parts of the globe, intent on learning more about the outdoor music culture, the communities involved, and most importantly… the music.  

Fast forward to today and you’ll find one of the best exponents for Progressive House in Melbourne. Atmospheric, melodic, uplifting and groovy, Karl has dedicated himself to refining a sound that is true to himself and the music that inspires him.   

In a career that only began three years ago Karl’s meteoric rise already seen many highlights. These include playing sunset on Sunset at Rainbow Serpent 2019, playing after Nick Warren (UK), warming up for Roger Martinez (NED), numerous sets at Burning Man 2017, performances at Babylon Festival and a residency with Melbourne outfit Coco Poco Loco.   

Karl is also an integral part of community events company Wildwood, not only as a resident DJ but as an event manager. This has produced the perfect creative outlet for both his music and his love for festival culture.
