This is a collaboration with Anthony Julius Williams who wrote and sang the lyric & lovely vocal melody. We did a very simple version in 2011 for his one-man show, "Blood is Mere Decoration: A Ritual for Liberation" - a shamanistic exploration of alternatives to America's addiction to incarceration. I always wanted to turn it into a banging tune, so glad I had the chance!

I dedicate this song to Richard Glossip, who has been sentenced to die in Oklahoma, USA for a murder of which he is almost certainly innocent. Just minutes away from his scheduled execution on September 30, 2015, his life was miraculously spared for 37 more days when it was discovered the prison had the wrong mix of chemicals for the lethal 3-drug cocktail!

I did almost all of this basically on my looping pedal one evening, then re-did it while adding all sorts of flourishes using many of my software effects by U-he. Every one of the 7 tracks used the delay of Urs, the MFM2 and my main compressor was the Seymour Duncan Vise Grip. Just one guitar, my American Fender Telecaster, a god in disguise. This is dedicated to a friend of mine in a far away land, the same person I dedicated Lightness Of Being to, and and hope she feels inspired by it.

The three members of NODO are Sytze Pruiksma (percussion), Jan Snijder (guitar & effects) and Christiaan Kuitwaard (guitar & effects). The latter are two Frisian painters that make music too, in which they make use of several loop stations beside a wide range of conventional and unconventional sound distorters. Sytze Pruiksma is a percussionist/composer/birdwatcher and uses beside the regular instruments self-build instruments, loop stations and bird whistles. The music of NODO can be described as improvised cinematic landscapes of sound.

DE DEELEN is the first release of NODO, a recording inspired on the De Deelen, a nature reserve in Friesland.
