Back to this track: Got some experimental drum sounds here in this one, f.e. those of a demolished sink and a cooking pot! ;)

Remixed the song quite a bit, took a while (had forgotten all the little details in there), not sure if I'm finished yet, probably not. 

Guess I'll do the same with the other tracks and try putting the whole thing on Spotify & Co. 

The tracks are presumably way too long for this day and streaming age (unless you're Metallica). But I like'em the way they are, it's really a good pop album - if you give it some time! ;) 

Well, maybe I'll shorten some of the tracks, but maybe not...

Really like the lyrics this time, too! No unintelligible pseudo-poetic nonsense or clichéd romantic schmaltz....

In a way have to thank soundcloud for this one! Went through their pro account benefit list and somehow ended up with giving loopcloud a try/trial - and thus getting a copy of UA's $200 PolyMAX synth for free! They're handing it out until the end of August - go and grab it with the trial! ;)

Tried it out, added some mainly free plugins (f.e. the still very nice VK-1 Viking Synthesizer), some vocals and stuff... and here we are! :)

Every Little Symbol

New alternative/blues/whatever rock song!

Sax (sound) still sucks a bit, but love the drums and the bass. And the sleigh bells! And the title - sounds like a cheap romance novel. Or like the caption for a photo series in a lifestyle magazine for the rich and wealthy. ;)

The "piano work" could be better, but the heck with it: never was full to the brim with God-given musical talent, never will be.

Having saind that wanted to keep the song rather simple and straightforward - and "guitarless".

Is it that time of the year again? Well, it's not even Pentecost yet... but somehow those sleighbells were the perfect fit. And you can't deny that the title could suggest a song about the dos and don'ts of xmas wishing lists. ;)

Vocals once again by the always fabulous Zara Taylor, who sadly seems to concentrate on EDM stuff with/in her own music. Had her voice on quite a lot of fabulous songs, not one EDM. 

Whatever... would say this one is another pefect example how versatile her voice is.

Whatever: absolutely adore the outcome of me playing around with it... a new absolute favourite of mine!!! :)

Working title was "The King's Keys" but then found this gorgeous vocals. Had to pitch them a bit, but was absolutely worth it!! 

Added some "bold brass", some strings, some nylon guitar and some bell-like instruments... and here we are, love this one!! Sorry, repeating myself...

Tried out some vocal doubling tools. wasn't that impressed but liked the vocal snippets I used... and built a song around them! :)

What Are U Waiting For

This is a strange, a tricky one... it's part ambient, part orchestral/folk, part pop, part postrock... part dance music! :P

Or whatever... started rather calm and ambient: tried out the really nice free ROOTS instruments by Westwood Instruments, added some Pripyat Piano (Strix Instruments), some NaviaHarp (Sonic Atoms), etc Went into postrock territories with hose drums and so on...

Since I didn't want to use the same snippets I only had those strange "love & dance" parts... so somehow ended up with this little dance part at the end to make it sound less - or even more weird? I don't know.

Under Your Spell

The latest episode in my everlasting non-stop-series "songs that absolutely nobody asked for". :P

Tried out the free Blueprint Drum Kit (for Kontakt) by Fracture Sounds. Adjustment possibilities are quite limited, but if you need really good sounding analog drums "out of the box" you should give it a try! ;)

What else... there's some chimes, a really nice nylon guitar solo, some strings, some choir, some (rather old) vocals by Amy Kirkpatrick.

Baby It Could Be Alright

And now to something completely different: noise! Well, some noisy pop or alternative rock, or whatever... and it's a really short track, how people like it these days - or just get fed with by the industry. ;)

Not much more to say... no brass this time. There's some fuzzy bass, lots of percussion, a bit of Fender guitar bliss...

Power House

Love this one... tried out some new woodwinds, added some harspichord, some upright bass, some brass again... and some really splendid vocals by Joseph Tilley for the first time.

Not much more to say... like it very much,  maybe you do, too.

Still tweaking and twisting, brushing and rasping... Flutes sound a bit "imperfect" but I like that. Guess I'll put it on Spotify when I'm finished - to see how it tanks miserably. Streaming industry sucks (in other ways than the old music/record industry)... :(

Another Minute (Of My Life Gone By)

How about some good old (retro) synthpop for a change? ;)

Well, this one is largely sample based, but thought: what the heck, why not concentrate (even) more on the arranging and mixing side? So only added some musical details but quite a lot of effects and filters and stuff (on drums, bass and vocals).

Hope somebody likes it as much as I do... love the picture! :)

And now... to some Afropop? Well, at least it's based on some Afropop drumming... but there's also quite a lof of Cuban and Latin percussion, so... 

In a completely unusual manner I started with the vocals this time... and those "modern pop" vocals somehow wouldn't settle for a straight forward backbeat but urged for some "non-European" percussive rhythms instead.

Got me some free vocal plugins (f.e. Chris Liepe's really useful all-in-one plugin "vocal menace"), liked the vocal track I tried it on... and here we are. ;)

Can We Have A Conversation?

Well, well... changed quite a bit, this short, little, yet bombastic track! 

Originally was based on a bunch of totally different vocals from a production workshop (with a little contest of sorts). But those vocals aren't / weren't released yet and not meant to be published in any other form than the official release.

So had to look elsewhere... and found another little treasure in one of the old vocal packs by EDM artist Zara Taylor (already mentioned a few times she exclusively does EDM stuff herself, what a pity). And added a few phrases spoken by Cristina Soto.

Might sound a bit repetitive at first, but I'd say it really helps to get the "message" across. And that message might resonate quite well these days, with more and more of those petty, divisive, reactonary figures rising to the top. At a point in history, where it's abundantly clear that in a capitalist system you can buy EVERYTHING, even the most powerful political offices.

Whatever, like the track... really tried my best to "master" it myself this time, quite happy with the sound. Hope it "translates".

Didn't want the artwork to look too "naive", too "chliché-ridden", so went into a bit different, a bit more "existential" direction: underneath, we all look the same, baby! ;)

INFO: Middle aged music maker (and recreational drummer) from the middle of Franconian nowhere arranging music for open minded music lovers who (like me) don't want to listen to the same (kind of) music all/every day - way too boring (or even annoying).

So you'll find all kinds of stuff here, from Space Jazz to Hip Hop, from Synthpop to Triphop, from Folk to Doom, from here to there, from then to now, and many things in between - except for "pure" EDM / Techno / Trance, not my cup of tea. :P 

Many tracks tend towards "alternative pop". Well, if you don't like a song/genre - just skip it! I won't mind...  ;)

P.S.: Before you ask: I (almost) never start with the vocals, asking myself: what strange things could I make with those?

Instead I start making strange music THEN look for some vocal parts that might fit. You'd be surprised how often you get a "match" the moment you throw those in the mix. Well, sometimes it needs a little tweaking... ;)
