Talk about kicking off the new year with a bang! For the first edition of Wayward in 2023, we had guest DJs Tariq (Direct To Earth), Lisa Rose (Nocturnal Code), and Isolator (Peter Clarke B2B DJ Clairity), a solid lineup of heavy hitters! This month's edition was definitely more techno leaning, and every one of our selectors came through with solid thump!

Wayward at F8 // Jan 2023

On Feb 16 2023, we had our second Wayward event of the year. Events at this time of year can sometimes be hit or miss, as some folks are trying to carry forward healthy New Year’s resolutions, while others get caught up with yet another Hallmark holiday. But that definitely wasn’t the case this night! 

We had a solid turnout from the very beginning until the very end, with a packed dance floor and good vibes as far as the eye could see! Every one of my guest DJs (Count, Ober, and Gav) were completely dialed in, with excellent track selections and flawless mixing.

This was my closing set from that night. I’m quite pleased with it, and I hope you enjoy it as well ❤️

Wayward at F8 // Feb 2023

The March 2023 edition of Wayward coincided with St. Patrick's Day, and we certainly had a little luck o' the Irish! It was an exciting event, with Ogan (f.k.a. The General) playing his first ever live set! Wayward regular Friedlander graced the decks with his signature dark melodic beats, and Mike Hays took us on a trip through the cosmos with our first ever dub techno set! There were multiple competing events that night with some heavy hitting international artists, but we were fortunate to have had a solid turnout all night. Much love and gratitude to all the fine folks who joined us on the dancefloor. Sláinte! 🍀

Wayward at F8 // March 2023

The July edition of Wayward was a blast! I got to open up the room for David Alec (Pink Mammoth), Friedlander (Camp Synthesis), and Redbloom, and all of them played some excellent tunes! We had a great crowd from start to finish! Since I was on opening duties, I played a little more funky and upbeat than my usual style -- a rare opportunity for me :)

Friends and fam, here is my closing set from Winter Wayward Land on Dec 21, 2023, recorded live at F8 nightclub in San Francisco. This was a big year for Wayward, with some live performances, some exciting B2B sessions, and a lot of talent from across our community. We certainly ended it with a bang! Hope this set gives you a little end-of-year boost to help carry you into 2024!

Huge shoutouts to my guest DJs WHOO!SHT, Shalman, and Black Panda for laying down some solid sets, and to all the amazing friends who came and shared their energy and vibes. We rocked the back room from the start right up until the very end!

🎵 Dario Klein, jofunk & Max Härtel - Live @ Myzel im Friedenspark Köln (30. Mai 2025)🎵

Shortly after Arkadiusz arrived at Dario Klein's flat in cologne, he was taken along to a Myzel collective open-air event. Rumour had it that they would be jamming spontaneously. What happened next was simply beautiful and perfect for an open-air event in the middle of summer. The atmosphere was sunny and positive, with funky interludes and a great groove.

✔️ What are your musical influences? 

We are an improvisation project from Cologne, working with different instrumentalists: Sometimes in our Cologne studio, and sometimes on stage! All our sets are created completely in the moment. Nothing is planned or pre-produced, which allows us to move in different directions and react spontaneously to the dance floor.

We produce all the sounds with our instruments: Dario Klein plays the drum machine and electric bass, Jofunk plays the keys, and Max Härtel plays the saxophone and flute.

This set was created at a sunny open-air party organised by the Cologne Myzel Kollektiv, who hold events at various off-site locations in Cologne.


Although we have different musical backgrounds, this set showcases our shared passion for grooving. Influences from soul, funk, jazz and breakbeats can all be heard in the set. All in all, it's bouncy but emotional!


✔️ In your opinion, what makes a good afterhour?
The best after-hours events are always spontaneous! If spontaneous, then full power!


✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?
The most important idea we pursue with our live sets is to live in the moment. We don't plan everything down to the smallest detail because it's bound to go wrong! But we do it with a smile on our faces. The principle behind our sets is simple: Think less, just do it! Nothing can go wrong without a plan!

 
✔️ How did you feel about the gig?
We found this gig particularly exciting because the three of us had only met once before. Namely, at the dress rehearsal.

Dario Klein, jofunk & Max Härtel - Live Impro Special [at] Myzel Open Air [ Live-Special ]

Deep in the heart of the Eifel region, nestled in a rocky gorge, a very special gathering takes place once a year — a meeting of an especially gentle and loving species of fox. Among experts, it's affectionately known as the "Party Fox." This unique species is known for forming large, loving packs that come together to celebrate a beautiful happening in this very gorge.

This pack formation, known by seasoned wildlife observers as the “Tumult in the Fox Den,” took place once again this year in a small, carefully selected circle. I was fortunate enough to contribute a small musical set this year, in addition to helping out with the kitchen crew and the organizing team.

Although my performance didn’t go ahead as planned due to a thunderstorm, I had the honor of reopening the main stage on Sunday after the official closing — guiding us into a magical closing night with this very set.

So here’s a heartfelt thank you to everyone for all the love, warmth, solidarity, and passion that made this festival what it was: simply wonderful! I’m already looking forward to the next pack gathering. Until then — high paw! 🐾

Tumult im Fuchsbau Festival // Reopening Felsenschlucht 15/06/25

When we first met Kahmeya, we immediately fell in love with her positive energy and contagious enthusiasm. To top it off she always delivers uplifting sets, without losing sight of the melodic and warm sounds we love so much. So there was no doubt about asking her for our Wolvenroedel Radio Show - and she brought us a little surprise. In her own words:

Hey beautiful people. I am So honored to record this mix for my amazing talented friends from Wolvenroedel.

My sets are usually an energetic mix of indie dance and organic/ tribal house, often adding live vocals as well. Pushing grooves, trance vibes, with psychedelic and ethnic elements. Fiery, sexy, bossy. But! I just woke up one morning last week and felt like playing some more downtempo vibes. And when I started the first track I was like. Fuck it, let’s just hit ‘Rec’ and see where this goes. I went gazing in all the corners of my usb. Where I normally don’t go that often. Rediscovering all kinds of tunes and getting hyped by all the good music these talented producers made. Damn, that was fun!

I think it turns out pretty nice and wanted to share this mix with you through Wolvenroedel. Thank you Yondi and Ed for believing in me, and supporting me ❤️ I love your parties, I love the Wolvenroedel family.  It was my first Fusion, definitely not the last. One of the most inclusive, affordable, sustainable and badass events I had a chance to see. The level of creativity, the quality of sound systems, the absence of authority or security, yet the feeling of safety and community. An impressive and powerful sonic city that shows us how the world can be when we work for a greater purpose, together, with strong values. 

This set represents a lot for me, after quite an heart opening trip in Beirut, Lebanon right before Fusion, getting closer to the war opened my eyes to the energies, challenges and times we are living in, while being fuelled and inspired by the beautiful resilience of people. ❤️

The dancefloor as a revolution. Music as a way to heal. The community as a foundation to rebuild the world from the heart space. 🌍   Gratitude to the Sonnendeck crew for the invitation, to everyone who came to dance for the morning session, and big love to old and new friends who made this journey memorable.

Nachdem sich Dr. Schneckno in die Tiefen des Dark Downtempo zurückgezogen hatte, hielt er Wort – und erhob sich, gleich einer Erscheinung aus Nebel und Schatten, aufs Neue.
Mit feinem Gespür für das Verborgene führte er das diesjährige CoSy Festival auf eine Reise durch schattendurchwirkte Klanglandschaften – hypnotisch, düster und von wohltuender Rauheit.

Im mystisch illuminierten Drunter&Drüber Floor des Schlosses Dornburg an der Elbe, kunstvoll ausgestattet durch das Wiener Kollektiv @magikamusic, erklangen zu freitäglicher Mitternacht jene tiefen, rollenden Basslines, die nicht einfach gehört, sondern körperlich erfahren wurden – als bebendes Fundament unter der Zeit.

Ein aufrichtig’ Dank sei all jenen Tänzer:innen ausgesprochen, die sich erhoben und in seliger Eintracht dem zweistündigen Bassline-Korso hingegeben haben –
ihr habt das ehrwürdige Gemäuer bis in seine Grundfesten erschüttert und dem Schloss neues Leben eingehaucht.

Josephine's deep yet warm sound has been with us for several years now. Last year, at the Afterhour Sounds showcase at Kater, Arkadiusz met her and they chatted for a long time. Playing at Garbicz was a big dream I've had since my the first time I attended it back in 2019. So there was so much fiery yet patient joy and passion in me lounging to be expressed in this debut set. At the same time, I have felt the collective burden SO much given all the unacceptable atrocities going on in many places in the world... 

There's something I've learned with my therapist which has helped me though: the price we pay for suppressing a certain emotion is that we end up suppressing ALL of our emotions. So I knew that, in order to fully express my wild joy and fiery passion while living this dream of mine, I needed to somehow acknowledge in my set the times in which we are living right now. 

Let that sink in for a moment...

The joy you see in the videos is not there Despite everything happening in the world. It is deep joy In Acknowledgement and Recognition of it, with all the emotions it evokes. I took the risk - which is always there - of not being booked again because of this... But for me this the only Responsible way to receive the blessing of living this dream of mine in an embodied and authentic way. And that is why I believe this was one of the most powerful sets I've ever played. 

As Nina Simone once said: "an artist's duty is to reflect the times." 

So yes, this set was a proper blast! With every single track, the crowd reacted really wildly - I definitely played many of my all time favorite tracks!! AND it was also a prayer filled with powerful messages and (indingeous) wisdom to guide us through the times we are living.

Thank you so much to Garbicz, especially to Lichtung for having me (at Ali's Teabar) and all it stands with and for.  Also my warmest gratitude to all my friends and dancers who bared through the long delay to listen to my set, which ended becoming a perfect sunrise set for that reason, or to those who woke up early or ended up leaving their tents to listen to me. I made sure your fiery energy can be felt in the recording <3 And finally, thank you for the tears of those who cried, during or after it. I feel you, as I also cried twice myself while I was preparing this set.

May it uplift us to the responsability that come with the privileges we have, as Responsability is what holds us accountable to be the person we long to become. May it remind us of the Power of our choices, because it is in the cumulated impact of our daily decisions that lies the cure for powerlessness. May it evoke Peace in a world with ongoing genocides, wars and many other human atrocities happening here. May it inspire Positive Change, because we truly need it. May it create Unity in a world with growing polarization. Because we can be only be truly Strong when we stand Together! And I deeply believe in the connective Power of Music in helping us to get there!!!

A Sunrise at Garbicz Festival 2025 - Lichtung

Yaz is a San Francisco-based DJ who enjoys playing tech house, deep tech, minimal, and techno. He is an active member of the Burning Man community and underground house/techno community in San Francisco.

Yaz has played all over San Francisco at all the major venues, including Public Works, Mighty / The Great Northern, Monarch, Midway, and Halcyon. He was a resident DJ at the venerated Wish Lounge for 5+ years, running his monthly Wayward party right up until the pandemic caused Wish to close. Once it was safe to do so, he has taken Wayward to its new home F8 Nightclub, and has been a resident there since August 2021. 

Yaz has collaborated with many different promoters and labels, and has opened and closed for (or shared billing with) well-known artists including John Digweed, Bob Moses, The Scumfrog, Tommy Four Seven, John Monkman, Technasia, and Marques Wyatt, to name a few.

His love for Burning Man is only rivaled by his love for music. His styles go from deep tech, minimal and techno to indie dance. You can find him on the playa playing for his camp DeMentha, and everywhere else for The Janky Barge, Airpusher, and Icarus. Yaz has also participated in many fundraisers in San Francisco for the aforementioned camps, as well as DISTRIKT, Mayan Warrior, the Salty Jacks, and others.
