One More Day

The latest installment from Roam Recordings comes from the Japanese disco scene via the production duo of internationally acclaimed DJ Que Sakamoto and seasoned studio engineer NT. The title track ‘Lalo’ is an original production with a stylish edit of an obscure vocal. This slow paced groove has a lot to offer with its bells chiming, synths drifting, and peppered in vocal that brings it all together.

The first remix comes from JP & Vulinej the partnership between JP Soul (boss of Roam Recordings) and Jeniluv (a prominent figure in the L.A. dance scene and partner in Roam Recordings). Having heard Que Sakamoto+NT’s excellent single, Vulinej fell for the song and brought it to JP Soul at Roam Studios. Together they came up with a filthier heavy hitting acid bender. 

The second remix comes from Magic Touch who has made a name for himself for his critically acclaimed releases on 100% Silk and Tensnake’s label True Romance as well as his performances at places such as Sonar, Unsound, and the legendary Panorama Bar. His remix of ‘Lalo’ perfectly rounds out the EP in an entirely new direction with elements of atmospheric electro combined with a consistent heady dance beat

The three versions of ‘Lalo’ together make this an extremely versatile EP that can easily fit for a variety of dance floors, raves, and discotheques.

When you are the highest you have ever felt, there is only one way you can really go, gravity always wins in the end. When you float above a gigantic mass the laws of physics dictate that the only place you can go is down.
Playground Records drop a killer EP from Mexico's Prom King & Queen, Ali X x Ximena with a retouch from Id!r with an electro sounding slice of robofunk. 
A Beastly malfunctioning piece of analogue gear dominates this track while a killer breakbeat builds around it as creepy vocals drift in and out turning the sleaze machine up to 11. Ali & Xim have been prolific of late with a number of tracks on Nein and Roam while Ximena has been busy setting up new Mexican imprint Controlla. 
Id!r adds a fair old slab of beef to the proceedings adding an electro tinge to what is already a sleazy piece of dark disco in what is one of the highlights of the EP. 
If you've been up for too long, perhaps it's time to get down.

PREMIERE | Ali X X Ximena - Down (Id!r Remix) [Playground Records] 2018

Chess is the thinking mans game. A game for the chronic overthinker, whether you start with the Sicilian defence or the Queens gambit, this is a game for Karpov... not Kasprov. 
Karakter have been on fine form this year and this is a gorgeous addition with a slightly off kilter and pretty wonky breakbeat track which straddles the line between new age and heater. 
Alex Pletnev has been a staple of Vilnius scene and his remix is an absolute testament to both chess and his skills as a remixer. 
Some lovely noises punctuate this track as it slowly builds with no fanfare but total intensity, listen without prejudice please because this is awesome.

Olimpiada Records have been kind enough to share Pines in the Sun - Zig Zag Sea, an EP which evokes the ocean to the point where you can almost taste salt in your mouth when you listen to it. Sun is the lead cut and opens with a meditative chant which is later joined in quite kindly by laidback disco sounds which set an irresistable tone before giving way to warm and life affirming guitar tones. 
Uj Pa Gaz and Olsi's new project is clearly here to bring the solar rays, the breeze and the distant sound of the waves through our ears and into our souls... Just make sure you bring a towel. Out July 11th on digital format.

Dance for Relief is a project that's been on our minds for a while as a way using our music to help raise funds for causes that we are passionate about. With the world currently struggling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic now felt like it would be the right time to get this project started.

The first project under this banner is a compilation of edits, remixes and secret weapons from various friends, with Volume 1 focusing on cosmic, tribal and trancey sounds of the 90s.

All money from this release will go straight to Direct Relief (directrelief.org), a charity who's mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies, and who are doing great work to ensure that protective gear and critical care medications get to as many health workers as possible. We felt they were a particularly both in the midst of current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

Finally, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all the artists involved who have given their skills and time during a difficult period to help make this release happen in support of a worthy cause.

The first release is coming from a local talent Lowe Aka User. Member of Soundwax and Jardin Exotique crews, Algis is not only a BMX rider, but also a dj, producer and party starter. His crew's Jardin Exotique parties at Vilnius' Opium Club already hosted Lauer, Marvin & Guy, Telephones and Cooper Saver. And more names of similar caliber are bound to come in the future.
The 3 tracker EP is heavily inspired by the sounds of 80's italo disco and proto-house. It has taken the best elements of the era such as arpeggiated synths and basslines and mashed it with new touches of modern-day house music. The amalgamation of this sounds like it was made in heaven and descended from above to the earth just in time for summer in order to keep people smiling on the dancefloor whilst busting a move or two.

A lot has happened since then, for both the label and the artist. Each growing, developing and coming into bloom . However there still remains the initial connection that brought them together in the early stages of both of their ’sonic-journeys’. That connection - a desire to explore the unknown shoulder to shoulder - continues in this next chapter. 

The catalogue number LTP0700 suggests that these songs sit somewhere on the dance floor, most likely at the epicentre of a gathering, aired out at 7am - when the consciousness sets adrift from the body and life ‘under the sea’ suddenly seems all too plausible. 

The ‘Abyss Mix’ revisits one of the more tough-edged tracks from the Dreems catalogue, reimagined with the application of archetypal soundtrack sounds. Don’t be swayed by the choice of theme here - it’s intention is to make you feel mystery and threat in equal measures. 

Die Orangen appear from the depths, steering the 9 minute groove into the eye of the storm. With a few twists and turns they manage to slide in tropes that at the same time feel disparate and cohesive. Shoe-Gaze-Funk-e-Industralia ? Caution - don’t paddle out to this one at dusk or dawn.

The synced rhythm of modulated drum grooves washing up against diaphanous chords in ‘Dolphin Communion’ play the perfect underwater backdrop for the poetry and words of John Sea Lilly, the highly regarded marine scientist and botanist, turned electronic music councillor. 

At last and at least not the last from this man - Inigo Vontier - a remix that weaves mucho fun and enough funky funky weirdness to satisfy any weird funky funky enthusiast to the core. His ‘Mushroom Mix’ gives the package a deft organic touch - surf ’n' turf they call it in Australia.
